The ban on team orders in Formula 1 will be dropped from next season, the FIA announced following its World Motor Sport Council meeting on Friday.
A number of changes were confirmed in the sporting regulations from 2011, and the governing body said the "article forbidding team orders (39.1) is deleted."
The FIA said, however, that there would still be a rule to allow it to punish teams if it considers they had brought the sport into disrepute with their actions.
"Teams will be reminded that any actions liable to bring the sport into disrepute are dealt with under Article 151c of the International Sporting Code and any other relevant provisions," it said.
A team orders row erupted following this year's German Grand Prix, where the Ferrari team asked Felipe Massa to give way to Fernando Alonso to win the race.
Ferrari was fined $100,000 for its actions, although no further punishment was imposed, with the FIA vowing to clarify team orders rules.
The FIA also said on Friday that all team radio communications will be made available to broadcasters from the 2012 season.

"Following dialogue with the engine manufacturers and experts in this field, the power units will be four cylinders, 1.6 litre with high pressure gasoline injection up to 500 bar with a maximum of 12,000 rpm. The engines will deliver a 35% reduction in fuel consumption and will feature extensive energy management and energy recovery systems, while maintaining current levels of performance. In 2013, five engines will be permitted per driver, but each year after that the limit will be four."
I'll just leave this here...

So many wrongs on so many levels. When are they, the FIA going to realize that we, the fans, ENJOY the visual and acoustic orgasms that an F1 car can produce?
I want 22k RPM out of the new engines. Gimme that scream!

Honestly I'm OK with a lower RPM limit from an aural standpoint, as long as they don't bring back TC. You'd be sitting there watching and then it'd sound like a corrupt MP3 IRL. I always imagined that's what the world would sound like through a digital hearing aid. Worst sound ever.Well, let's all enjoy the sounds at Montreal for the next 2 years

Yonson said that the Traction Control IRL was actually amazing..every time the TC would kick in, it was like a hammer hitting your chest. Sounds (no pun intended) pretty cool to me

Looks like Fernandes backed down. Oh well.

Carlos Goshn and his waffling on selling/shuttering the team is directly responsible for most of these.I was thinking about this on my drive in to work today... Renault is seriously screwing things up for the past couple years...

Tom Walkinshaw Former racing driver and team owner Tom Walkinshaw has died. The 60-year-old had been suffering from cancer.
During his career Walkinshaw ran the Benetton, Ligier and Arrows Formula 1 teams - and was pivotal in Benetton's rise to a championship-winning team in the 1990s. But he was arguably best known for his spectacular achievements with Jaguar in both touring cars and sportscars.
Wakinshaw began as a single-seater racer, winning a Scottish Formula Ford title in 1969, before really making his name in touring cars, where he was highly successful as both a driver and as a team owner with his TWR operation, which would also spread to a network of garages.
The highlight of his touring car career was a European title for Jaguar in 1984, and Walkinshaw's success for the manufacturer saw TWR commissioned to run Jaguar's return to top-level sportscar racing.
The iconic TWR Jaguar Group C cars went on to win three World Sportscar titles, and to triumph at Le Mans in 1988 and 1990.
Walkinshaw moved into F1 with Benetton as the team's engineering director in 1991. He introduced Ross Brawn, who had been TWR's designer in sportscars, to the team and set it on course for its world championship successes with Michael Schumacher.
In 1995 Walkinshaw was moved across to the Ligier team, which was at that time also owned by Benetton boss Flavio Briatore, but this arrangement was shortlived and at the start of the following season Walkinshaw acquired a majority stake in Arrows.
He famously recruited reigning world champion Damon Hill to drive for the team in 1997, with the combination nearly winning the Hungarian Grand Prix. Arrows was one of the first to use Bridgestone tyres, with Walkinshaw having been played an integral role in convincing the Japanese company to rejoin F1 a year earlier than it had originally intended.
Financial problems saw both the Arrows team and TWR fold in 2002, but Walkinshaw remained involved in motorsport, continuing to run a team in V8 Supercars in Australia

Yep, gov'ment even wanted him to take over GM:is he still around at renault/nissan?
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/09/secrets-of-the-bailout/#more-364646Rattner said he politely rejected the idea, because there was too much overlap. But he asked Ghosn: “Would you be interested in becoming CEO of GM?”
Ghosn declined.
Dude knows how to run a successful car company, that's for sure. Successful racing team? Not so much.
