McLaren are considering introducing a radical-looking update to their car for the Hungarian Grand Prix after trying out their version of nose horn wings in testing at Jerez on Thursday.
The team are undertaking a big development push of their MP4-23 to maintain the edge they currently appear to have over rivals Ferrari.
And after evaluating a shark fin engine cover in Hockenheim testing, the team surprised observers on the third day of this week's test at Jerez in Spain by unveiling bold-looking nose wings fitted to their car .
The sculpted wings, which rise out of the top sides of the nose on the car, are based on a concept used by BMW Sauber and Honda Racing.
McLaren's F1 CEO Martin Whitmarsh confirmed that the team are thinking about racing with the wings soon - and possibly as early as the Hungarian Grand Prix.
"We've been evaluating a number of different aerodynamic solutions during recent tests, running a dorsal (shark) fin in Hockenheim and trying these refined antler wings at Jerez this week," he told autosport.com.
"At the moment, we are undertaking a very heavy development schedule ahead of the traditional summer break and, while we have yet to confirm plans to run the antler wings in Hungary, they remain an option for both Budapest and the races later this summer."
plus they have the engine cover dorsal fin... so as of now, McLaren has copied....errr...got inspiration from everyone on the grid

Yea, funny how Renault didn't get anything for that, isn't it?nobody else has been fined 100 mill for industrial espionage
Or how they determined later that it could have been a vote that was illegal, as per the FIA's own rules.

Is that Bruno Senna?Just thinking out loud... Everybody in the press is speculating that Santander's sponsorship deal with Ferrari for 2009 and beyond must mean that Alonso is due for a Ferrari seat, but theres another guy who's sponsored by Santander that is looking to get into F1...

Ferrari have become the latest Formula One team to test a shark fin engine cover, with Felipe Massa evaluating the new design on the final afternoon of this week's test at Jerez in Spain.
The Maranello-based team had hoped to try out the extended fin on Thursday, but in the end the team waited until this afternoon so as to conduct back-to-back runs with the old and new design over the course of the day.
Ferrari's move comes just a fortnight after their main title rivals McLaren evaluated a shark fin design during the pre-Hockenheim test.
Although the fins do not create downforce themselves, they do help tidy up airflow to the car's rear wing.
Autosport technical consultant Gary Anderson said: "It's another airflow device. If you imagine the airbox, when you're going at high speed - say over 120mph รข€“ it can't take in all the air that is coming at it. So you get spillage around the sides of the engine cover.
"That spillage can affect the rear wing, so you're trying to tidy that up and get it to the rear wing in as uniform condition as possible."

gawd damn it ferrari, i thought you'd be the one team to hold out

just because another team is cheating doesn't make mcmerc any less of a cheat. We weren't in those FIA hearings, but I don't think there was nearly as much proof in the Renault case..I mean there aren't ongoing criminal investigations in that instance as there are with stepney, so the cases are probably in very different ballparks.Yea, funny how Renault didn't get anything for that, isn't it?

Renault was found guilty of breaking the same rule that McMerc did, and got exactly no punishment.just because another team is cheating doesn't make mcmerc any less of a cheat. Good point. I'm the last person that's gonna pretend that the FIA is a fair, independent, and just body....but I still think mcmerc was guilty of 1st degree cheating, and renault 2nd or 3rd. Karmically, they deserve people stealing their bridgewing before the 100 mill fine.Renault was found guilty of breaking the same rule that McMerc did, and got exactly no punishment.
