Ban on changing engine maps between quali and the race. What's to stop them changing the maps on the steering wheel at the start by the turn of a knob?? Perhaps Yons could clarify the difference between this 'engine map' and what it is they've been controlling on the wheel (fuel map??)

I thought they were one and the same (engine map/fuel map)...so that's the 'magic paddle' they keep talking about. Pretty clever...

Couple times during Quali, I'd hear RB's engineer asking Vettel to use his "magic paddle" during quali...

Jenson to Ferrari?

http://planetf1.com/...utton-For-2012-

SILLY SEASON START!

As much as he is my favorite driver, I would immediately disown his ass and pick a new driver...

But I very much doubt he wants to have anything to do with them. Who wants to go to a team that they are guarenteed to be a number 2?

Looks like we'll be having turbo V6s, rather than inline4s, still 1.6litre. Introduction is delayed till 2014

F1 agrees to delay engine rules to 2014

By Pablo Elizalde Wednesday, June 22nd 2011, 16:28 GMT

F1 engineFormula 1 chiefs have agreed to delay the introduction of new engine regulations until 2014, in a move that will see the sport switch to 1.6-litre V6 turbo power-units.

As AUTOSPORT revealed earlier today, F1's manufacturers tabled a proposal at Wednesday's meeting of the Formula 1 Commission to move away from the plans to have four-cylinder turbo engines from 2013.

That four-cylinder concept had divided opinions among the car makers and, after intense efforts between them and the teams, a proposal was put together for V6s to be introduced from 2014 - with them still featuring the 'green' hybrid systems that the FIA is so keen to see.

The manufacturers' proposal received the necessary agreement in the F1 Commission, which is made up of the teams and other representatives from the sport, and it will now go to a fax vote of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council.

With the WMSC having made it clear it was willing to consider a delay to the original 2013 plans if there was a push from the sport's competitors, getting the official sign off is likely to be a formality.

The late effort to find a deal on future engine regulations comes after an intense debate over the past few weeks about a way forward for the sport.

Ferrari was against the idea of four-cylinder engines, while Mercedes-Benz and Cosworth had expressed reservations about the costs involved of developing the new designs.

Only Renault was in favour of the move, and its managing director Jean-Francois Caubet had warned that the future of the French car manufacturer in F1 depended on the engine regulations changing.

"I told Bernie and Jean Todt that today we are in the 'red zone' because we have no idea what will be the future for Renault," he told AUTOSPORT in Canada.

However, keen to help do what was best for the sport, Renault also agreed to the V6 concept that now looks set to be incorporated into the regulations.

My god, renault has been a PITA since 2006.

Still, happy to hear about the V6, not thrilled, but better than an I4 ferrari

Yeah I think it's a decent compromise for all, Renault has V6 engines at the top of their model range, Mercedes has a lot of V6 engines, Ferrari not yet but conceivably could in the future, and V6s are popular enough with potential engine suppliers

lol. Those are just transport wheels...

So some of you guys know my buddy, Nathan. And the guys that went to Montreal knows that he wrenches on a Lotus 79 to race in the Historic Grand Prix...Talking to him, you learn some funny tidbits about that car and how crappy those old race cars really were. For example, the rear tie-ends have a spherical end on them, and when brand new, they would deflect 1mm. That's right - the rear wheel's toe would move back and forth a full 1mm, and this was considered NORMAL. This was confirmed by the Team Lotus guy they contracted and brought out who wrenched on the same car back in the day. Can you imagine your rear wheels moving back and forth a full 1mm as you're driving...what pieces of shit race cars were back in the day.
