lol. Those are just transport wheels...

So some of you guys know my buddy, Nathan. And the guys that went to Montreal knows that he wrenches on a Lotus 79 to race in the Historic Grand Prix...Talking to him, you learn some funny tidbits about that car and how crappy those old race cars really were. For example, the rear tie-ends have a spherical end on them, and when brand new, they would deflect 1mm. That's right - the rear wheel's toe would move back and forth a full 1mm, and this was considered NORMAL. This was confirmed by the Team Lotus guy they contracted and brought out who wrenched on the same car back in the day. Can you imagine your rear wheels moving back and forth a full 1mm as you're driving...what pieces of shit race cars were back in the day.

1mm isn't all that much, even on a race car.
Shit, on a road car, the rubber bushings allow for a LOT more deflection than that. Even poly bushings will deflect a decent amount under stress. :dunno:

I think he meant the toe would move 1mm not under stress. That's pretty sloppy under modern standards. I would not want to drive any car that had 1mm play in toe at speed.

Audi wanted to join F1 and left F1 in limbo because they were indecisive on joining with the 4cyl. Finally they ditched... Really Audi, really? Did you want to put diesels in there as well?

FFS will the FIA just go to a certain fuel limit per weekend already and see what kind of technology comes out of it?

Its too bad that just about every review of the MP4-12C I've read said it was shit.

Shi posted some video reviews in the Video/Pictuar section... but mainly, the electronics are still very much in the way causing the car to be much slower than the 458 Italia.

Honestly, did everyone expect McLaren's first road car in nearly 20 years to be better than a corresponding Ferrari?

Yes.

They made the F1, a car which more or less destroyed everyone else's efforts and was a benchmark for nearly all of those 20 years.

Amiga made some pretty sweet computers in 1992, but I don't think they'd be able to compete with the fit and finish of a macbook or the refinement of a Windows 7 if they took another stab at it today.

I did actually :dunno:

I think a large problem with the new road car is it's more quantity than quality.

As for the McLaren MP4-12C, the printed Evo article written by Chris Harris was still quite positive about the car.

It's not exactly like McLaren hasn't been involved in road cars at all in 20 years.

But I wouldn't take Harris's word at face value. He did go out on a limb and smash Ferrari...and yes, I thought the McLaren was going to be quite good, perhaps not beat the Ferrari, but at least be on par since it is their benchmark car. Keeping electronic nannies in place even when you turn it all off = not cool.
