FIA confirms qualifying changes
By Jonathan Noble
Friday, April 4th 2008, 16:32 GMT

The FIA has confirmed the change it will make to the regulations for the final qualifying session in a bid to avoid a repeat of the problems that marred the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Calls to introduce a maximum laptime were made in the wake of Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton being penalized for getting in the way of Nick Heidfeld and Fernando Alonso in the closing seconds of Q3 at Sepang.

More worrying that the sporting aspect, however, was the fact that the closing speed of the cars on flat-out qualifying laps and those cruising back to the pits made the situation very dangerous.

With the FIA having looked into the matter over the past two weeks, Formula One race director Charlie Whiting has confirmed that drivers will be forced to complete a certain section of a lap during qualifying in a maximum time.

In a statement issued on Friday, Whiting said: "In order to avoid the possibility of an incident caused by the speed differential of cars on out laps and in laps during Q3, in addition to reconnaissance laps whilst the pit lane is open for the race, any driver deemed to be driving unnecessarily slowly during these laps, or in a manner which might endanger other drivers, will be reported to the stewards.

"Cars leaving the pits will be timed between SC (safety car) line 2 (50 metres before turn 1) and SC line 1 (after turn 15), any car exceeding a time of 1.39.0s between these points will be deemed to have been driven unnecessarily slowly."

Never thought about that sort of thing. Most of the helmets we sell are full-face, so I dunno who the market would really be.

I can, however, sell Oakley sunglasses, due to us selling Oakley racewear. :noes:

just throwing it out there. I work for an optical lab, and I'd probably be able to get an account built for you.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) has told FIA president Max Mosley that it wants him to resign in the wake of the scandal over his private life.

Although Mosley has claimed that he has support from several motoring organizations over the controversy that has overshadowed this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix, there have been calls from the German and Australian bodies for him to consider his position.

But the AAA has gone one step further and said that the only outcome it thinks will be satisfactory is for Mosley to step down from his position.

Evolution Autosport

It's pretty worthless right now.

I'm re-doing it as soon as my graphic designer gets enough time to get my new layout made. :wtcd: The last 'web designer' is a joke.

vengefulchinaman (now goes by vcm on OT) helped me with the Josie site, perhaps he's worth a shot

his rates were quite reasonable

I'm starting to get the feeling he's just gonna shut up and hope it goes away.....as long as he doesn't get re-elected.

In for Mosley opening a bondage dungeon somewhere in Soho though :wtcd:

I'm not saying it's right, but it IS adversely impacting his work...he can't expect to deal with more conservative countries after publicity like this.

The thing is though, what Mosley did was not formally illegal in the United Kingdom. Solicitation - kerb crawling - is illegal but visiting a 'massage parlour' or the sort of S&M dungeon he visited is not illegal in the technical sense.

Here are the rules:

In England and Wales:

* for a "common prostitute" to loiter or conduct solicitation in a street or public place is illegal, therefore outlawing street prostitution
* it is also illegal for a potential client to solicit persistently, or solicit from a motor vehicle ("kerb crawling"). (In 1992 the head of the Crown Prosecution Service, Sir Allan Green, was caught committing this offence and resigned.)
* owning or running a brothel is illegal
* child prostitution is specifically illegal for the person paying (where child is defined as below 18)
* controlling prostitution for gain is an offence, banning pimping

So while what Mosley did from an ethical sense may be wrong, the fact is he has actually done nothing wrong.

It does not affect his ability to run the FIA and if he's been doing it for 20 years in private it's his own business.
