USF1 NEWS

Argentine driver Jose Maria Lopez has reportedly signed to race with the USF1 team in 2010.

The 26-year-old former GP2 driver, who has recently been racing in his country's touring car championship, must complete a $8m sponsorship package but has signed documentation at the team's Charlotte base, the Corsa publication said.

"The agreement with the American team is done," said Carlos Garcia Remohi, an official with the Argentine club. "We have a week to finish collecting the budget."

Lopez, who occasionally tested with Renault a few

years ago, was pictured by the ambito.

"To be specific, at this moment we lack about 20% of the budget," Lopez's father confirmed.

Schumi, say it ain't so! I remember reading that M-B tried and failed to get Schumi after Benneton in a bid to bring back the original silver arrows, so why not?

Kimi is the man. citroens are the ghey.

Most teams have completed if not started crash testing for '10 already.

you know I was just thinking...
when Brawn was offically annouced last season, Bernie was all "hey, new team, you don't get Honda monies"...
now that Brawn is Mercedes... is Bernie going to go all jew again and be "hey, new team, you don't get brawn monies"...

is Brawn going to get fucked over twice?

Internal tests, not FIA tests. And that article is only a few days old, where as the reports about USF1 not testing yet were a few weeks old.

Maybe...since this was technically a sale, not a withdrawal with last minute rescue???

Who knows.

its amazing how many people are visiting NASCAR from the F1 world. Trulli and Salo just had a test, Scott Speed and Montoya are racing in it, Hans Stuck from VW motorsport paid a visit this weekend, along with Vettel and Hekki K (as a guest of Penske?). Pretty crazy...

Brawn GP has just confirmed Nico Rosberg via facebook and their website

NICO ROSBERG TO DRIVE FOR MERCEDES IN FORMULA ONE
Posted: Monday 23 November 2009 at 11:02

From the 2010 season, German driver Nico Rosberg (24) will drive for the new Mercedes team in the Formula 1 World Championship, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport announced today.

Three years after his father Keke had won the Formula 1 World Championship, Nico Rosberg was born in Wiesbaden, Germany on 27 June 1985, inheriting his racing DNA from his father.

At the age of eight, Nico Rosberg began racing karts. From 1997 until 2000, he raced for the MBM team (the talent support programme of Mercedes-Benz McLaren); with this team, the two Formula 1 partners encouraged young talents. Nico’s team-mate at that time was Lewis Hamilton, McLaren Mercedes driver since 2007 and 2008 Formula 1 World Champion. In 2000, Nico was runner-up in the Formula A European Championship. Two years later, he entered his first car races in Formula BMW ADAC and clinched the title in his debut year with nine victories out of 18 races. A Williams Formula 1 test drive was the reward for the championship win - at the age of 17, Nico was the youngest driver ever to get such an opportunity.

In 2003 and 2004, Nico Rosberg participated in the then new Formula 3 Euro Series; in his first year he came home second in the rookie rankings and in 2004 he finished fourth overall. One year later in 2005, he moved up to the GP2 series which is staged alongside Formula 1 events and won the title.

The 2006 season opener at Bahrain on 12 March was Nico’s first Formula 1 race; he finished seventh and posted the fastest lap. To date, he has taken part in 70 Grands Prix, all for the Williams team; scoring a total of 75.5 points and achieving second place at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix as his best Formula 1 result. The 2009 season was Nico’s best in Formula 1 so far; finishing seventh overall with 34.5 points.

Nico Rosberg grew up in Germany, Monaco and at Ibiza; in addition to his mother tongue he is fluent in English, Italian and French.

Nico Rosberg: “I am really happy to be a part of the Silver Arrows re-launch in 2010 as a driver for Mercedes. No other brand in Formula 1 can look back on such a long and successful tradition in motor racing. I am very proud that I will now drive for the new Mercedes team and work with Ross Brawn. I am more motivated than ever and can hardly wait to start testing with the new Silver Arrow and for the first race of the new season at Bahrain on 14 March 2010.”

Ross Brawn, Team Principal: “We are delighted to welcome Nico Rosberg to our Mercedes team and are very much looking forward to working with him. Nico is a great talent, and with four years of experience in Formula 1, is a driver who will be able to make a valuable contribution to our team right from the outset. I had the pleasure of working with his father Keke during his Formula One career and it is great to see Nico following in his footsteps. 2009 was Nico’s best season in Formula 1 to date and we look forward to seeing his development continue with us at Mercedes next year.”

Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport: “I saw Nico
racing karts alongside Lewis Hamilton and later in the support programme of the DTM events - I have known him since he was a young boy. Early on it was obvious that he would make his way as a race driver and we are glad that after four years with Williams he will now be one of our drivers at Mercedes. It makes our re-start even nicer, that we have as talented and sympathetic a driver as Nico in our line-up. Nico has positive ambitions, we have positive ambitions and together we want to achieve a great deal. I am really looking forward to working with him.”

Sauber's takeover by the Qadbak group is on the verge of collapse, according to the Swiss weekly newspaper Sonntagszeitung. The report claims that the main figure behind the consortium is Russell King, who has spent time in jail for insurance fraud and had assets frozen by court.

In the wake of BMW and Toyota's withdrawals from Formula One, Sauber is waiting to be given an official FIA entry to race in 2010.

The newspaper reports that, contrary to speculation, Qadbak's F1 investors are in fact not funded by wealthy Middle Eastern sources. The lack of real financing could explain the FIA's hesitance in granting the team its 2010 entry, with even BMW's legal department reportedly surprised to learn about King's apparent inability to fund the project.

It is suggested that Dubai-based King was counting on BMW Sauber's commercial income after finishing sixth in the 2009 season, while the FIA wants assurances about the team's pre-prize money backing.

Reports in September said King attempted to found a Dubai-based F1 team some years ago, and that it was this failed foray that led to some existing teams' concerns about Sauber's Qadbak buyout.

The FIA is expected to publish the definitive 2010 entry list at the end of November.

It wasn't meant to be a shock, just shocking they finally decided to announce it.

As for their second driver, it still depends if Schumi can get out of his contract with Ferrari. If not, then options are Kimi or Nick. However, this silly season is starting to get old. There are teams who may not end up on the grid, and there are still teams with no confirmed drivers.

I doubt the Schumi rumour holds any water at all. Back when he retired, Theissen said that he offered Schu 100m to race in 07 and was rejected. Maybe he regretted retiring since then, but I really dont see him going to a whole new team (albeit with Brawn), not get paid that much and have huge question marks about his performance after 3 years off.

Well let's put it this way, if the Schumi rumors hold any water at all, I don't see him making a come back with Ferrari. They just simply have not been performing with the dominance that Schumi was accustom to.

Beside, he brought Ross with him to Ferrari coz Ross Brawn can make cars that makes his life easier. Why would he want to make a comeback with anyone other than Ross? Not to mention he would not de doing it for the money, it's not like he doesn't have more than he could spend already. This would only be to prove that he still has what it takes and he's still #1, whether if that was really the case or not, I do not know.

Schumi coming out of retirement now would only be to prove something to himself and the world, not as a favor to Luca de Mozzarella. And that's why, if he does, I don't see him doing with anyone other than Ross Brawn.

I don't know if he will come out of retirement, I don't particularly care, I just want to stir up the pot. I'm too fed up with the crap from F1 this season, that I'm not going to start caring till the first race of next season.
