Interesting, I wonder how much a GP2 team would cost?

Monteiro buys GP2 team BCN
Renamed Ocean Racing Technology

The Portuguese has guaranteed the acquisition of BCN competicion from the GP2 Series. The Deal has been reached this week. Ocean Racing Technology becomes the first with full Portuguese investment competing in an international championship which is a direct access to Formula 1.

Together with José Manuel Guedes, Tiago embraces this new challenge with enthusiasm. This is the first time he is involved in a competition from outside the cockpit: “It´s a step we were willing to take, but we didn’t expect it would happen this early. Still, we saw this opportunity and we decided to grab it. As soon as we got the means to finance the operation we got the negotiations under way. Managing a team is fascinating as you need to understand perfectly the sport on track but you also need to be aware business wise. And GP2 is the perfect stage as it is so close to Formula 1 and with a growing recognition worldwide. We also believe this project will be a landmark promoting the Portuguese motorsports scene on an international level”, said Tiago.

Ocean Racing Technology – A Sea of opportunities

Tiago Monteiro and José Guedes are building the team from scratch, gathering a well thought group of professionals from all over the world.

The two partners have not revealed yet the colors of the team. The cars will be on track in the next round of the GP2 Asia Series, from December 4th to 6th. Tiago Monteiro also did not reveal the names of the drivers who will try and bring the team their first points, admitting that the negotiations are on the final stages, and that this season’s Asia Series will be useful to test several drivers in order to make the best choices for the Main Series: “This is really a team under construction, but soon we will have the structure finalized. We are getting together a group of professionals that gives us guarantees and confidence, as we know GP2 is one of the most competitive championships in the world. We are recruiting people we know well, with an extensive curriculum in Formula 1, GP2 and other international championships. The Asia Series will be kind of a warm up for the Main Series. By that time we will be working on a full scale. We know the task ahead is enormous, but our motivation equals the size of the job ahead, as we are fully aware of the importance of the project. Again, right now we know there is a big curiosity regarding the name of the two drivers, and I can say there is no obligation for them to be Portuguese, although that remains a possibility. But the most important thing is to make the right choices”, concluded Tiago.

RUBENS WINS A RACE!

Barrichello wins Massa's karting race
Monday, December 1st 2008, 09:51 GMT

Rubens Barrichello won Felipe Massa's International Challenge of Go-Kart Champions on Sunday, beating the likes of Michael Schumacher and Jeff Gordon.

Brazilian Barrichello won the first race ahead of Renault test driver Lucas di Grassi after Schumacher spun off from second position.

Massa won the second heat, but fifth place was enough for Barrichello to secure the overall victory.

Di Grassi, who had secured pole position on Saturday, finished second overall, with Massa in third place.

Schumacher, winner of the event last year, had to be content with fourth position.

This year's line-up included several current and former F1 drivers like Antonio Pizzonia, Tarso Marques, Ricardo Zonta, Luciano Burti, and Luca Badoer.

The future of Formula One at the Hockenheim circuit is in doubt unless the government decides to help financially, a track official has said.

"Without grants from the state there will be no more Formula One in Hockenheim," Karl-Josef Schmidt told the Der Tagesspiegel newspaper.

The track will be absent from the calendar next year because it is alternating the event with the Nurburgring.

According to the newspaper, Hockenheim made a loss of 5.3 million euros this year after hosting the German Grand Prix.

The Canadian and French Grands Prix will not be on next year's schedule due to financial reasons.

Schmidt believes only Arab countries will be able to afford hosting a Formula One race if the future unless they start to get better deals.

"Formula One will disappear not just from Hockenheim but from Germany as a whole. Then it will only be run in Arab countries," he added.

There are currently five German drivers racing in Formula One, plus companies such as BMW and Mercedes.

Rubens Barrichello, who is fighting to remain in Formula One, on Sunday won the charity 'International Challenge of Go-Kart Champs' race.

The 2008 Honda driver won the event, organised by Felipe Massa in the southern city of Florianopolis, by beating Lucas di Grassi in race one and finishing the other race in fifth place.

Fellow Brazilian di Grassi, also in the running for the Honda race seat next year and having secured pole position, finished the event second overall, just a single point behind 36-year-old Barrichello.

"Can we quickly send this tape to Honda?" Barrichello joked to Globo TV.

He also complained about 24-year-old di Grassi's driving. "Everybody wants to win this," Barrichello said, "but we can't go around hitting other people on the track, this is a charity event."

Barrichello's former Ferrari team-mate Michael Schumacher finished fourth in the first race and retired from the second.

Barrichello, also critical of the German's style, said: "It seemed like Schumacher thought he was in a war. Maybe he forgot that he is in Brazil now."

12,000 spectators attended the event, also contested by F1 faces including Luca Badoer and Tonio Liuzzi, and former drivers Luciano Burti and Antonio Pizzonia.

In the southern region of Brazil, massive flooding and mudslides have cost more than 100 people their lives.

Massa, who won race two, donated 50,000 Brazilian Real ($22,000) to the cause. "I am giving 50,000 Real from my pocket, plus a signed suit to be auctioned.

"It's the least we can do for these people," the Ferrari driver said.

bernie better not be long for this world.

I'm starting to come to the realization that I may never see another GP.

Me: "Hey honey, you remember how beautiful the Rhine Valley was, what do you say we take our vacation there this year and maybe catch the GP at nurburgring."
My GF: "That sounds great, maybe we can drive to Antwerp that week and say hi to Shi!"

or

Me: "Hey honey, here's your burqa, we're going to dubai!!!"
My GF: "Fuck you, I'm leaving you for that Jamal guy who works at the verizon booth in the mall"

WTF bomb blast? shit this isn't good.

i was thinking if i was in charge of the protest, i would have never allowed those planes to leave. now the police/army have no reason not to go in with guns blasting. hopefully they find a peaceful resolution to all this.

Well both the domestic and international airport in Bangkok have been shut down for a week now. They let the planes go because people were stranded here and abroad, and they only want to cripple the government, and not piss off everyone.

The Protesters are fighting for a just cause, at least its one I believe in. However their actions are arguably extreme. But this is what they want. They want to cripple the govt by a peaceful but drastic means. The bombs and grenades were put there by Pro govt activists, they generally consist of hired hands by corrupt business men who are in bed with the ousted and in exile former Prime Minister.

It is believe that the Army and Royality are backing these protests, but no one can confirm that. That is why the police have not used force even up till now.

The reason why Pro govt groups have gotten so much support is because people get bribed to show up. This current govt, which is closely linked to the previous govt (disbanded by the high courts) has been in the habit of bribing or erasing debt with no consolidation to the banks for poor uneducated folk in the northern parts of the country for the better part of a decade now, so they have a lot of support in the majority of the country.

However, they have embezzled massive amounts of govt money, along with insider trading, tax evasion and so forth. Basically it's like having the Mob running the country. So the middle class had enough of it, they got support and they overthrew the previous Govt. But when new elections were held, it became obvious the previous govt had amassed too much power in the rural regions of the country, and they won in a land slide. So a puppet PM was put into power, and later forced to resign due to corruption charged, then they put another puppet PM into power, who is the bother-in-law of the exiled PM. And here we are now.

So long story short, the longer these protests lasts, the more people will suffer. The people supporting the current govt are prob the most wealthy people in the country, business men who have made a fortune evading tax and embezzling money in govt projects, so they think they can wait it out, and blame the protesters for crippling the economy. Meanwhile protester want to hurt the govt and its supporters where it hurts most, in the pockets.

well it's far from over yet. We expect another proxy govt t be set up during the next election, the former PM's pockets are just toooooo deep. But in due time, we will have a cleaner govt. At least the airports are going to open now, so we expect things to turn back to normal soon. At least till the next elections.
