I haven't, but I've got customers who have.

Were you looking for what sort of paints and whatnot to use, or just for pics? :dunno:

i believe they are banned now.

the stupid thing was it stemmed from the FIA's inability to write sound regulations. they basically wanted no moving ballasts, but the wording of the regulations left room for the movable ballast as long as it was fixed via tools. so for the FIA to ban the mass damper as a movable ballast was a no-go, the next best thing they could do was to say the effect of the moving ballast caused changes in the AOA of the wings (so does suspension travel :mamoru: ) and therefore classified the device under 'movable aero devices'.

if they had just reworded the definition of a ballast then it would have prevented the whole issue (i believe they have done so since '06...).

Does anyone else suspect Renault & Honda are claiming these 1/2 second improvements due to sponsor pressure, especially Renaults Spain race. They need to appear competitive somehow lol.
After all, they can always claim everyone else made .75 improvements to their ".5."

Honda's been doing quite a bit better than I think that anyone expected. I think Brawn's influence is already showing on their car.

honda backed their first claim after that private jerez test they found 1 second for melbourne so 0.5 seconds is reasonable claim....I wouldn't be surprised if all teams(expect SA) don't find 0.5 second improvement.....just for comparison purpose the fastest lap during testing at barcelona was 1:20.420 done by Massa in F2008 so maybe we will see teams next week in the low 1:20 and who knows even high 1:19

but yeah Renault claims are more towards to quit the Spanish sponsors

this statement alone proves it

"At the Barcelona test we will make a giant leap forwards," Briatore told Spanish reporters on Friday. The Italian said he was very confident about Spain because his technicians plan to introduce changes to the car "that other teams are already using." "I am sure that we will be fighting to be on the podium in Barcelona," he added.

DRAMABOMB :eek5:

The billionaire owner of Red Bull Racing may have let the cat out of the bag regarding Fernando Alonso's plans for 2009.

Dietrich Mateschitz has told a Spanish newspaper that Red Bull was in the running to sign the double world champion this year.

But he seemed to rule out making another bid for Alonso, 26, for 2009.

"His situation was complicated because he was free for one year only," the 63-year-old is quoted as saying by El Mundo.

"In such a short period, we would not have been able to demonstrate our ability.

"I am one of those people who thinks that Alonso is one of the best drivers. But we could not have delivered the car he needed, and so the decision would have been wrong.

"What we like to do is take one step whilst thinking of the next," he added.

Mateschitz's comments indicate not only that Alonso sought to accommodate himself just for a single campaign in 2008, but also that his plans for 2009 were already well advanced.

It is currently rumoured that the Spaniard is hoping to line up at Ferrari next year.

word is that Renault is about to introduce the J-Damper that McLaren use....the reason for the set back was due to mclaren-renault spy gate so they didn't want to introduce it then due to being fined by FIA

Renault: We need to deliver for Alonso

Renault's technical bosses have admitted that the team must rapidly regain ground to prevent Fernando Alonso regretting his decision to return to the squad.

Alonso got his second Renault stint off to a strong start with a charging fourth place in Australia, but he could only manage eighth at Sepang and 10th at Sakhir.

Amid rumours that the former world champion could be snapped up by Ferrari next season, Renault's technical director Bob Bell said the team had to prove itself again.

"I think he's very disappointed, and rightly so, that we haven't delivered the car he expected to get," said Bell in Renault's official team podcast.

"He wasn't under any illusions that we were going to be back fighting for the championship with Ferrari - I think his expectations were much more in line with the team's hope and belief that we would be up there fighting for podiums and when other people dropped off we could be there to snatch victory.

"He came in with that same level of expectation and we haven't met that.

"But he is a real fighter.

"It doesn't matter what equipment we give him or what circumstances he finds himself in, he extracts the most from the car.

"That determination and drive is still there.

"We need to keep that alive by making sure that we do address the problems with the car as quickly as we possibly can and show him real performance improvement.

"If we do that - and it's certainly the plan - he'll be fine."

Pat Symonds, Renault's executive director of engineering, agreed that Alonso was currently over-achieving for the team.

"I think Fernando's qualifying performance probably flattered us a little," he said.

"We were not the tenth-fastest car out there, we were more like 12th, 13th as the fastest laps suggest."

Renault is set to introduce a number of upgrades for Alonso's home race at Catalunya later this month, but Bell said this would just be an initial step.

"To say we need to improve is an understatement - it will take a tidal wave of change, but that's what we're here to do," he said,

"We need to take the first step in Barcelona: we need to clearly demonstrate there that we've made a step forward as we start to move ourselves back towards the leading three teams and edge ourselves away from that gaggle of teams sitting just behind them.

"That's objective number one, and then by mid-season we really need to have shown that we have consolidated and we are back there on the tails of the top teams."
