its funny. i'm quick to jump to the conclusion that ferrari is headed downhill, but i will NEVER admit Brawn is fast until they've just about mathematically locked up the championship. i just can't believe they're doing well. its probably just temporary.

after this weekend, we're about 1/4 of the race through the season...
i'm not writing them off, i'm surpised at how much they're sucking though...
this is Ferrari, the power houses of the past decade and they still have no points going into the 4th race...
they'll be competitive sooner or later

You know what makes you feel better about losing? Ten times or more your co-worker's salaries.I damn sure wouldn't want to drive a slower car just for the $$$ If I didn't have a chance to win in it...

Ferrari to test Italian F3 drivers again
By Steven English Wednesday, April 22nd 2009, 16:11 GMT
Ferrari will once again invite the top three finishers in the Italian Formula 3 Championship to test its Formula 1 car.
The trio will complete a full day of testing in the F60 at Fiorano at the end of this season.
The quickest driver in last year's test, Italian Mirko Bortolotti impressed the team with his performance and picked up Red Bull backing and a place in Formula 2 for this season.
"We are proud to continue our collaboration [with the Italian F3 Championship] ," said Ferrari team principal Stefano Domencali.
"The development of motorsport for youngsters is a theme that is particularly close to our hearts and we believe this day of testing is a further boost to generating interest in a championship that continues to grow."
i wonder if they are using the young driver development clause to test the new diffuser and new aero bits for the upcoming races.. why else would you let a bunch of guys drive your most up-to-date machinery..
22) TRACK AND WIND TUNNEL TESTING
22.1 a) Track testing shall be considered any track running time undertaken by a competitor entered in the Championship with the exception of :
i) promotional or demonstration events carried out using tyres provided specifically for this purpose by the appointed supplier ;
ii) three one day young driver training tests carried out between the end of the last Event of the Championship and 31 December of the same year, any such driver having not competed in more than two F1 World Championship Events ;
iii) eight one day aerodynamic tests carried out on FIA approved straight line or constant radius sites between 1 January 2009 and the end of the last Event of the Championship.

While you can test the cars that way, i can't see getting too much meaningful feedback from them, as they have no point of reference.i wonder if they are using the young driver development clause to test the new diffuser and new aero bits for the upcoming races.. why else would you let a bunch of guys drive your most up-to-date machinery..
Personally, I think they're driving the F60 because the old car (f2008, etc) is too different to see if these new guys are good in the current F1 machinery.

Renault and Altran launch 6th edition of Altran Engineering Academy
The Altran Engineering Academy returns for its sixth edition this year giving young graduates the chance to compete for a six-month work placement in the Research and Development department of the ING Renault F1 Team.
Launched in 2004, the Altran Engineering Academy has proved to be a valuable platform for young graduates who aspire towards working at the highest level of motorsport. The opportunity to enter the world of Formula 1 represents a unique opportunity for all the candidates who must prepare a project to demonstrate technical innovation. The winner of this international competition will be provided with accommodation in nearby Oxford, the use of a car, and will be supported by an Altran expert to ensure they get the most from the experience.
The candidates hoping to win this unique opportunity will need to prepare a presentation showing technological innovation in one of the following areas: aerodynamics, power, performance engineering, vehicle dynamics, control systems, electronics, materials transducers and fuel technology. This year's partnership with Total is the occasion to focus the competition specifically on energy efficiency, one of the most important concepts for Total and its commitment to providing a sustainable response to the growing energy demand.
Previous winners of the competition, such as Brazil's Gustavo Brambilla in 2008, have shown that the chance to spend six months with the team has played a major role in determining their career paths. Some of the participants in this competition are today employed by the team, while others will be considered for future roles.

Whenever they mention Total, I think of the cereal.
That reminds me...does anyone else find themselves googling during episodes of Top Gear whenever they make obscure Brit references like bovril or Bill Oddie?

my research has nothing to do with aerodynamics (i'm dealing with vehicle dynamics and control systems). the only aero experience i have is my undergraduate classes + sophmore/senior design classes. unfortunately, my current research assistantship contract basically prohibits me from taking a 6-month sabbatical from school even if i were to get the slim chance to work with renaultI'm calling you out Kerozen

Computer games manufacturer Codemasters has revealed details of its officially licensed multi-format Formula 1 game to AUTOSPORT.
F1 2009 will be released in the autumn for the Nintendo Wii and Sony PSP, while a higher-spec F1 2010, with HD graphics and a more sophisticated gaming mode will be launched next year for the Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and Windows.
The new game will be the first to feature world champion Lewis Hamilton, since the Briton had not reached grand prix level when F1's agreement with Sony came to an end in 2006.
F1 2009 will use all of this year's cars, teams and tracks - including the Singapore night race, the Valencia Marina Bay circuit and the new Abu Dhabi season finale. The game will also include KERS, slick tyres and the new aerodynamic regulations.
In-depth race simulators are rare on the Wii and the format does not lend itself easily to the concept, but Codemasters is convinced it can deliver promising 'new standards for immersion and authenticity' including a full season, individual arcade-style challenges and a multi-player format.
The PSP version will allow wireless multiplayer, while F1 2010 is expected to take full advantage of Xbox and PS3's thriving online gaming communities.
"Codemasters has a great heritage when it comes to racing games and their reputation is second to none," said F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. "We're working very closely together on the upcoming Formula 1 titles and are very impressed with what we have seen."
Formula 1 world championship leader Jenson Button added: "F1 computer games and circuit simulations can be invaluable for racing drivers so it's great news that our fans will also be able to experience the BGP 001 through this game."
finally an update

The Formula One Teams' Association is looking at banning Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) from next season, according to Renault boss Flavio Briatore.
With the devices having only been adopted by a minority of teams this season, Briatore has revealed that F1's teams are looking at getting rid of the technology totally - despite the FIA's insistence that it is important for the sport's green credentials.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport about KERS disappearing from F1 at the end of the season, Briatore said: "Yes: FOTA wants to ban it from 2010.
"We understood immediately that KERS was a money-sucking genius, and the FIA should have taken note of that. It should have been discussed before the start of the season, and the same goes for the diffusers. Having failed to do that has forced on us expenses that are crazy as much as useless."
i support this...

Juan Pablo Montoya claimed his maiden NASCAR Sprint Cup series pole position in qualifying for the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.
The Colombian set a time of 50.890 seconds on his second qualifying lap with an average speed of 188.171 mph, beating the previous benchmark set by Sam Hornish Jr to become only the third foreign-born driver ever to claim a pole position in the series.
Montoya had only run 14 laps during practice on Friday, electing to save his car for the race while working mainly on race-trim, but despite that he was able to make it two-for-two in qualifying this year for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing at restrictor plate tracks.
His team-mate Martin Truex Jr, who had won pole position for the Daytona 500, will start the race from third place.
"Getting this pole is pretty cool," said Montoya, who had not taken pole position for a major race since the 2005 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix.
"Last year we had one and it got taken away (at Kansas) so it's exciting to be here. You look at this year for us and we're definitely heading in the right direction. I think there's a lot of potential for us to make the Chase and it's encouraging.
"This is one of those places were it's not only driver but it's the team and the car performance. There's been two restrictor-plate races and on both Earnhardt Gansassi cars have been on pole so hopefully we can translate that into a win here."
