word is that Renault is about to introduce the J-Damper that McLaren use....the reason for the set back was due to mclaren-renault spy gate so they didn't want to introduce it then due to being fined by FIA

i guess inertia-mass dampers aren't banned. :eek5:

I'm shocked Santander is still sponsoring McLaren. The hate the company gets is insane.

I can think of a couple of reasons.

1. They are contracted

2. Santander are known as Abbey in England. Hamilton territory.

Alonso wants a seat at Ferrari, but that doesn't guarantee him one.

Ferrari will be wary of hiring him and putting him next to Raikkonen after what happened at McLaren last year.

They already have a World Champion in Kimi while in Massa they already have a number two.

Ferrari are not known for having two top pilots in their cars.

I think the only way Renault can hope to keep Alonso is with a WC car. And Flava is looking pretty desperate with the poor showing.

I expect Ferrari to offer Alonso Massa's car
Kubica deserves a shot at it too, but he's too tall for them. If he were shorter, Kubica would probably be the fastest guy out there today.

Correction: They were not known for having that during the days of Schumacher, who demanded a "team" driver. In the current market, they're letting Massa win -- which means I would say that it's "open" for the most part. If they truly thought Massa could't hack it throughout the season, they would've let KR thru this past weekend. Especially considering how tight the champinship could get.

I'd LOVE to see KR & FA matche up -- it would be a helluva rivarly. Could FA maintain it tho, against someone like KR?

damn the FIA is fucking useless...

on the subject of movable ballasts (i.e J-dampers):

4.2 Ballast :
Ballast can be used provided it is secured in such a way that tools are required for its removal. It must be possible to fix seals if deemed necessary by the FIA technical delegate.

same fucking wording that was around before the whole mass damper saga in '06. so why the hell is mclaren's system not deemed a movable aero device?

on the subject of movable aero devices:

3.17.8
In order to ensure that the requirements of Article 3.15 are respected, the FIA reserves the right to introduce further load/deflection tests on any part of the bodywork which appears to be (or is suspected of), moving whilst the car is in motion.

yet they havent introduced anything to examine mcflex.

or can Kimi handle it? i know he has nerves of steel, but thats not my point. Does he have the same desire to build up the team, pull everyone close, and advance the car? I think not, I think when Kimi is given a good car, he is fast. He may have improved somewhat on this point, but overall, i think Ferrari are really looking for a guy like Schumi who can really build the team. And i think that guy is Alonso. Kimi wont care who he races against, and there isnt much future in Massa, so it makes sense. It also proves why he is content to race at Renault for a year, perhaps driving such a poor car will really sharpen his skills?

Montoya: Mosley debacle 'hilarious'
Wednesday 9th April 2008

Juan-Pablo Montoya is seeing the funny side of the Max Mosley sex scandal.

While most of the Formula One fraternity have criticised the FIA President after tabloid published details about his involvement in a sado-masochistic orgy with prostitutes.

Montoya admits he was shocked when he first heard about the video, but stopped short of condemning Mosley.

"Of course I saw the video! I loved that. I did. I did," the Columbian told The Associated Press when asked about the clip.

"It is a laughing matter! You know, when I first heard about it, it was shocking.

"But then he decided to play it like nothing has happened and it's just so hilarious.

The former McLaren and Williams driver says he found Mosley's "Slap me, baby?" comment amusing, but refused to get involved in the debate about whether Mosley should quit.

"I do have an opinion on it, but I am not going to say it, and I am glad I am not there.

http://www.planet-f1...3404037,00.html

 Montoya still being honest.

Absolutley - there are a few team-builders here on the paddock. Kimi is NOT one of them. Given a fast car, he'll dazzle you with his sheer speed. But he lacks leadership qualities to drive a team as a no.1 driver. On the other hand, LH & FA, those two display very strong leadership abilities and can drive a team forward. And dare I say, I even feel that Button, after last season has matured into a leadership role as well...sticking it out with Honda and putting the RA108 where it shoudln't have been...was mighty impressive. I can't think of anyone else to be honest...

Dare I say that Fisi is doing the same thing in his Jordan/Midland/Spyker/Force India-thingy this year. Putting the car on the final lap where it simply shouldn't be. Bringing valuable experience from a world class organization, feedback on how to setup a car, and I hope will teach Sutil a thing or two about race-craft before the kid finds himself w/o a drive.

He got totally demolished by FA though...I guess some guys are better at leading smaller outfits. Fisi was great at Jordan...

Alonso was 100% a whiny bitch at macca, but walking into a situation where he knows there'll be equality, he may sing a different tune. Nobody, least of all emonso, though louise would be as strong as he was last year....everyone knows kimi is one of the best and can be the fastest man on any given sunday.

I'll agree with this.

Button seems pretty dedicated to Honda, for whatever reason (or it could be those 16 million reasons). But he honestly seems to want to win, just doesn't have the equipment to do so. His Top gear interview, where he was asked if he'd give it all up for his first win (ironically, the week before it), he said yes without any hesitation whatsoever. I don't even think Clarkson had finished asking the question.

I'd also like to add Sato at Super Aguri. From all reports, he IS that team, and really seems to have come into his own. His pass on Alonso last year in Canada was symbolic, IMO, of what he can do when he's at his best.

I don't want Emotardo at Ferrari if Kimi is still there... I'd hate to have to pull for a team he's at.

Apart from two ordinary years where he was obliterated by Alonso, and he wasn't great last year, Fisichella has always been a good team leader, and when he's been at small teams, he's always been absolutely super. His time at Jordan and Sauber proved he is very quick and a racer. But it makes you wonder why he couldn't do it at Renault?!?!
