Seems like it's gonna be Sainz at Ferrari in 2021: https://www.autospor...ferrari-in-2021

I hope Danny Ric gets it... But I don't know if Ferrari want's to deal with 2 guys wanting to be #1... So it'll probably be someone like Sainz or maybe a long shot and they bring up Mic...
Probably Sainz. Mick is still trying to find his groove in F2 so it would be too early. Ric probably is quite a bit more expensive than Sainz and wouldn't take a big pay cut.
Vettel to McLaren?

Sainz gets my vote... out there vote would be Lewis
Ric just seems like he wants to be #1 in an easy car, not in it for the long haul
Mick is not ready

It would be great to have anyone buyt Lewis win a chip. Lewis to SF is probably the quickest way to ensure that.

Also saw this over on one of the f1 reddits, gave me a chuckle.

Mercedes or retirement?

Has anyone won a 'chip with 3 different teams?

I hope Liberty pressures Merc into doing this. This would be huge for ratings.

Yeah ricciardo just announced for McLaren so I guess that means Sainz at Ferrari
...and it's done.

Anyone else feel Ricciardo made the wrong decision to leave Red Bull? Also, not impossible for Cyril Abiteboul to lose his job I suppose.

I don't think Lewis would accept Seb going to Mercedes... He doesn't want another chance at a repeat of 2016.

He's in a tough spot... his time has come and gone... he's a strong driver, but front running teams have a stronger #1 driver. If he stayed at RB, he'd be #2 to Max... Ferrari has Vettel, now Leclerc, Mercedes has Lewis.
He is now a #1 driver for mid-fielder teams... his chance to be a real threat was years ago...
He's making the same decisions as Alonso...

Unfortunately he never got a couple chips though.... I really like Danny Ric (I honestly don't know anyone that doesn't) and it's a shame because he is a great ambassador for the sport...

The metric that seems to be suggested is number of wind tunnel runs, but if I can fit two models side by side in the same tunnel surely that doesn't count as 2 experiments

I'm sure the bigger teams will figure out some loopholes around it... I don't see how they are going to limit CAD and CFD time though unless they make them run a license through the FIA, however there are easy ways to get around that as well...

Does anyone know what the restrictions are on running multiple 40%, or whatever the limit model size is for F1's wind tunnel testing restrictions, in the same test. E.g. side by side, assuming the tunnel is wide enough to accommodate? Seems these new regs could be circumvented by just building super-huge wind tunnels and running experiments in parallel.

I suppose the issue would be that all existing wind tunnels are built only with testing of a single model in mind, in terms of tunnel size.
Due to boundary layer effects where the air close to edges of the tunnel are moving slower than that in the middle, to run 2 models side by side they would either have to:
- accept reduced accuracy of each model due to each model not getting hit with the optimal air flow
- OR, reduce the size of the model they use - but smaller models are most likely also less accurate.

Right. Or if the test section is long enough run them front to back with enough space between (equiv. to 2 sec?) Or use the same experiment run to conduct tests of free air AND following a car data. There are useful ways to get more data for a given set number of 'sessions'
