the second duct might be to cool the gearbox, or perhaps lead to the diffuser?

From Italian news :
"Kubica crashed into the wall of a church. His conditions where terrible, almost life-threatening. Firemen extracted him conscious from the car and he was taken to hospital by helicopter. No mortal wounds but medical officers confirmed he was in red code. It seems he received a hard leg trauma (probably broken thighbone) and they were even thinking of amputating it."

Robert Kubica looks set to miss the start of the new Formula 1 season after suffering multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand in a crash on the Ronde di Andora rally on Sunday.
The Polish driver was airlifted to hospital on Sunday morning following a high-speed crash that took place 4.6 kilometres into the opening stage of the event, on a stage near the village of Testico in Italy.
Kubica is understood to have swiped a wall and hit a crash barrier in a Super 2000 Skoda Fabia on the first stage of the rally - which he was competing in shortly after completing the first week of pre-season F1 testing with Renault at Valencia.
According to sources at the event, Kubica was trapped in the car for more than one hour until specialist extraction equipment could get to the scene of the crash.
There are unconfirmed reports that Kubica's injuries were caused by the end of a crash barrier penetrating the car - which would explain why his injuries were on his right hand side rather than by the door.
After being transferred to the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure, Kubica underwent surgery on Sunday afternoon for the injuries he suffered - with doctors believed to be focusing their efforts on his injured hand.
According to a statement issued by Kubica's Renault team, he has been diagnosed with multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand. The hospital is expected to issue a statement about Kubica's condition later on Sunday, while his manager Daniel Morelli is scheduled to hold a press conference.
Kubica's injuries look almost certain to prevent him starting the season for Renault, with the first race of the campaign due to take place in Bahrain on March 14.
Renault will likely call on reserve driver Bruno Senna to fill in in the short term, but the team could opt for a more experienced driver if Kubica faces a more lengthy lay-off.

Edit: There are some reports going around that his hand will have to be amputated
Edit 2: Nevermind, amputation has been ruled out and he's okay but they are unsure how well he will recover. Reports are that the barrier came through the car in the footwell and struck Kubica. His codriver is uninjured. Damn...the achilles heel of a rally car.

FUUUUUUUUUUUU
Poor bloke, to be seriously injured in a rally car is a pretty big shunt.
What will renot do? They can't start the season with Petrov/Senna. That's like asking to get no points.
I shudder to think of seeing Grosjean racing again

Amazing bad luck to have armco pierce the footwell of the car and strike him

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89315As well as multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand, of more immediate concern was his partially severed right hand.
There were fears that the hand may have had to be amputated, but doctors managed to reattach the blood supply during a lengthy operation and are hoping the repair will be successful.

Fernando Alonso, who is a good friend of Kubica's, even travelled to the Italian hospital on Sunday to speak to doctors - although it is not clear if he was able to see Kubica in person.
fucked up about his hand though... his season is gone now... even if it only takes 6-8 months of rehab, that's basically the season gone...

Honestly I'm a bit less concerned about this season and more about the rest of his career. Who knows if this sort of injury will limit his ability to operate at the top level again.
