are ferrari looking for a long term replacement to Schumi in Kimi? caoz Schumi was with the prancing horses for the better part of 11 years. Kimi has probably got another good 5-6 yrs left in him, providing nothing happens to him. So is Kimi really likely to retire after 3 yrs with Ferrar or will he sign another 3 yr contract after this one?

I think that's what they wanted, but there's a reason they still have Schumi test whenever they can, he can offer quality feedback. I highly doubt that Kimi has a technical aptitude anywhere near Schumi's. Alonso has shown that he can develop a car, is still very young, and is committed to the sport. Kimi has always made it a point to say that he doesn't want to drive for a long time like Schumi and that he has other things he likes to do. I think the general consenus was that Schumi was pushed into retirement to make way for Kimi during that little power struggle between Di Montezemolo and Todt/Brawn. Now that there is a bigger shift in power/philosophy going on at Ferrari I just don't see Kimi being their ideal driver for the future. I'm almost 100% certain that Alonso will be at Ferrari next year and he and Kimi will be given equality.

I also think that Ferrari signed Kimi because he was basically accepted as being the fastest driver in the electronic aid era, where his level of input or understanding of the technicals wasn't that big of a deal. Now that a large chunk of the racing is being put back into the drivers' hands teams will have to have drivers that can develop a car and provide quality feedback.

Just my opinion, but I would be very surprised if Alonso isn't the future of Ferrari. I bet he has that performance clause too, it's only the 3rd race and look how much he's complaining about the performance, pre-season he was optimistic, but I'm sure he'll continue to bitch more and more as the season progresses to make it easier to exercise that clause.

The end.

Your argument seems more than logical, and I think you've hit the nail close to the head on this one, but I highly doubt, Ferrari will put alonso alongside kimi knowing alonso's emo history...

I think they'll let kimi finish his contract without much fuss then change to another driver, possible alonso, after Kimi's exit from ferrari. I'm also quite sure Kimi's departure from ferrari will also coincide with the departure of Massa. The two seem to not step on each others toes enough to keep teh drama on the track.

I don't think they can get a dominant WC out of Massa even though that's what Schumi would have liked to see, him being the "pint sized brazilian's" mentor. (not my words, you can thank ITV for their colorful derogatory nicknames)

Now if they get Alonso as their next Schumiesc Driver, I think they'll miss out on a huge market of upcoming talent, coz lets face it, when you have Alonso, your #2 will never be anything other than #2. Coz anybody with half the potential to beat Alonso, simply will get pushed out by his Massive Emotional Ego.

Lewis Hamilton-mania appears to have taken a back seat to commercial reality, with reports that the former championship leader's official biography is now in book stores' bargain bins.

It emerged last year that, not six months into his Formula One career, the publishing house HarperCollins had paid at least $2m upfront for the rights to the McLaren driver's life so far.

But after 'Lewis Hamilton: My Story' was issued in November for about $40, it now emerges that copies are being sold for about $2.

The British tabloid Daily Star reveals that branches of Home Bargains, an English discount store chain, is desperate to offload its stockpile of 50,000 copies.

Renault is set to become the next Formula One team to turn to the powers of a supercomputer to help it move up the grid.

It has emerged that Appro, a California-based company, has won a contract to supply a high-performance 'Xtreme-X2' supercomputer to the French team's new CFD (computational fluid dynamics) facility at Enstone in the UK.

The computer, apparently increasing the team's computing capacity by a factor of five, will be shipped and installed at the factory by the end of June, Appro confirmed.

BMW use similar systems with first Albert and more recently the Albert2.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix organisers have been told the country's inaugural race will take place in October next year, this week's Autosport reveals, although it is not clear yet if the event will be the season finale.

Work is progressing on the new track on Yas Island, and renowned F1 fixer Philippe Gurdjian has been drafted in to ensure that the venue is finished in time.

Gurdjian famously helped oversee the redevelopment of Paul Ricard into a leading testing facility, and also played a key role in ensuring Bahrain was ready in time for its inaugural race in 2004.

A decision has already been taken to make the track completely permanent, with the original plan to have some of the circuit on the city streets in front of a marina having been abandoned.

The Abu Dhabi track is being designed by Hermann Tilke, with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone confident it will be one of the best on the calendar.

"The Tilke group has learnt its lessons from the tracks it built in the past and put all those lessons in to this track," Ecclestone said at the official launch of the event last year. "We consider it will offer the best F1 racing in the world."

Alonso could/would easily go to Ferrari being equal to Raikkonen knowing that a.) Kimi isn't much on politics - he just doesn't give a fuck b.) Kimi is voluntarily on his way out c.) Alonso surely knows Kimi will never be the team builder that Ferrari love in Schumacher.
I also noticed last year Alonso seemed to 'buddy' up w/ Raikkonen and speak kindly of him. Maybe this seemed more conspicuous because he seemed just the opposite with Hamilton & Massa. :greddy2:

I'm sure Alonso felt like the only black kid in class after the British Jesus started to win and become favorite

Proof of that? Besides Alonso? :greddy2:

I think their driving styles are too different for one's setup to work magically for the other.

hey hey now, lay off alonso.. it's not his fault he couldn't win a chip last year, mclaren just aren't a winning team.

http://en.f1-live.co...410100225.shtml

Fernando Alonso says he chose to leave McLaren at the end of last year because the Anglo-German outfit is "not a winning team".

The former double world champion is quoted by the Dutch website f1today.nl as justifying his return to Renault this year, following his spectacular falling out with British McLaren duo Ron Dennis and Lewis Hamilton in 2007.

"McLaren seem like a winning team, but they are not," Alonso said.

"Some teams are able to produce good cars," he said. "They seem like winners, but in fact they are not, like McLaren.

"They haven't won any titles in years, so I would rather be with Renault, who in the same period collected two drivers' and two constructors' championships."

Alonso said he decided to switch to Renault for the 2008 season because they are the right choice for the 'coming years', despite their lack of competitiveness at present.

"I could have gone to a couple of other teams, but ultimately Renault seemed like the right ones, with the experience, to make a good car and win races."

For the moment, however, Alonso is making no concrete commitment to the French outfit for 2009.

"Next year I want to be with a team that can win," he said.

"At the moment I think it will be Renault, because by the end of the season we will have made up a lot of our deficiencies and then we can make a small further step for the next season," Alonso added.

I think alot of that has to do with his death. That adds alot of mystique to a driver. Add a decade or two and you have a legend.

Could not agree more with this. The Senna 'legend' has grown immensely since his untimely demise. And the history books have almost been re-written, and it seems writers are almost apologetic for some of the moves he did at the time.

Let's not forget, Senna had no second thoughts about driving a certain French driver off the track...

Who knows, most likely though. My feelings on it, and i think most people here, is that Kimi will quit at the end of his current contract and Ferrari wants to build the team around Alonso.

Sounds about right. Ferrari are not exactly countering anything Alonso has been saying about a possible move. Although Alonso hasn't really come out and said he wants to go to Ferrari either...

While I agree with this -- and Senna is before my time I started watcing, from what I've read, he displayed a sense of humility about it. I mean even Prost was there carrying his casket...he seems human, with the simple goal of being the fastest driver, ever. What'd he put over Prost at Monaco? 1.2 seconds?? That's intense -- and his drive to achieve Godly times drove him. So when he died, it was like a sense of reality that hit the F1 community. Even if you can drive like a God, it doesn't mean you are...

I think that's why MS broke down and cried after beating Senna's poles...I mean that was some deep shit!

Well, what do I know -- I was throwin the football around my yard as a 12 yo when F1 was on back then :p

Alonso in the rain was greatness too. I'd say a step above MS(!). What was it, hungary that he passed MS in the wet in 06?
