The safety brigade have won the war, and with Hermann Tilke designing the tracks, you will never get anything like a Spa-Franchorchamps, a Clermont-Ferrand or even a Brands Hatch.
No, most circuits now all have the same features really - long straights leading out of / into to sharp turns to help overtaking with the rest of track generally made up of featureless turns.
While it's all in the aid of safety, even the old tracks have been sanitised. Imola was never the same after 1994 when they added three second-gear chicanes....
Hockenheim was desicrated by getting rid of the long blasts out into the forests. That's why everyone loved the old Hockenheim - simply because it was different. But no, now it's like every other circuit.
Frankly, that's the only reason why I still love Monaco. Because it still has that real element of danger.

The president of double America's Cup yacht race winners Team Alinghi is keen for his squad to start a technical partnership with Ferrari.
Ernesto Bertarelli made the suggestion after attending last weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.
He already has a close relationship with senior Ferrari and Fiat personnel, and believes there is plenty of ground for collaboration between his America's Cup operation and the Formula One champions.
"(Luca di) Montezemolo is my neighbour in Rome, and I'm friends with (Fiat CEO) Sergio Marchionne and (Fiat vice president) John Elkann," Bertarelli told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I was pleased to see Ferrari winning.
"F1 and the America's Cup have a lot in common, from the technology to the organisation. I noticed that there's a debriefing too, after a GP, just like we do at the end of the regattas. The difference is that we are 17 on the yacht, while in the car there's just one driver.
"I would like (a collaboration with Ferrari) because the next America's Cup will be held with multi-hulls, so if there was an F1 engineer wanting to design a boat, this would be the right time to do it.
"On top of that, we could create some synergies with a flow of information going from one side to the other, and this would be interesting for both the Scuderia and ourselves."
Team Alinghi have won the last two America's Cups, taking victory at the first attempt in 2003, and then successfully defended their crown four years later.

it's been a couple of pretty good years for Ferrari, everyone wants a piece of them and they are selling their cars and technology like crazy

I loved the old Hockenheim.Fuck, THAT was that track I remember as a kid when I was like 5 or 6 years old and watching TV and I'd see these F1 cars blasting through a forest... shit looked bizzare and awesome... can't believe we lost that
Posted 14 April 2008 - 04:20 AM
that sounds radI loved the old Hockenheim.
It was such an awesome horsepower track.
Once, in the 90s, the first few laps had the cars going "Noah's Ark-style" through the forest based on their HP output.
IIRC, it was Williams-Renaults leading, then McLaren-Hondas, Ligier-Renaults(!), then came the Ferrari V12s, followed by the Benetton-Ford V8s.
*sigh*
