Yeah that's BS that HAM could take that turn the whole race then Max does it once and has to give the spot back...

Maybe Honda should quit F1 more often...
Honda: We out, Brawn, you take over: Wins
Honda: We out again, Red Bull, you take over: best engine so far...

Side note: Netflix has really opened F1 to the general audience, the amount of coworkers telling they binged Drive to Survive recently is crazy. And these aren’t car folk let alone race watching people.

The Bernie era of F1 may have been better run on track, but was wildly mismanaged off. He lost huge swaths of casual fans by limiting video games, documentary access, streaming, etc.

Wet races are the best races.
Russel's got the speed, but doesn't yet have the race craft.

I swear Lewis has the best luck of any F1 racer I've ever seen...

Yeah lucky, but honestly I'd bet most people in that same situation wouldn't have recovered the way he did, maybe finished just off the podium, not 2nd.

I think if it was RUS or a number of other drivers in that car they could have as well. I'm not saying he's not a great driver, but the equipment is still if not the best, the 2nd best on the grid... Getting the lap back under the SC is what really saved him.

For sure on days like yesterday Hamilton shows why he's 7x champ.
Bottas was nowhere in the same car.
Russel while fast doesn't yet have the maturity.
As long as a bad day for Hamilton looks like yesterday then we're unlikely to see him dethroned.

The fact that Russel hopped in the same car, was too tall, wrong shoes and he drove circles around Bottas who’s been in that car for like 4 years says a lot about where Bottas is and how good the Mercedes is...
That said, seeing how Russel reacted after the crash, I don’t think he would’ve been cool, calm and collected enough to try and reverse out of the gravel trap... he probably would’ve just done what everyone else does and guns it to trying to get out of the gravel...
Lewis has 7x ‘chips because of everything in the right place...

Listen to the beyond the grid podcast with the "Brackley boys" from like 2 wks ago, they all mentioned to some level that the success stemmed from the winning mentality/philosophy brought in by Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher and enabled by the bags of cash that Toto was able to secure for the team. The fact that Russel hopped in the same car, was too tall, wrong shoes and he drove circles around Bottas whos been in that car for like 4 years says a lot about where Bottas is and how good the Mercedes is...

Lewis inherited this team structure and has made maximum of the opportunity.

Maximum except for that Nico year. And the edge he walked into has been cemented in place for far too long thanks to FIA regulations.
He is certainly a great driver, but none of us have any way to benchmark just how great.

Although a relatively boring race, 3 races in and it really is going to be a close battle for consistency between Max/LH. Bottas/Checo aren't going to factor into this battle too much even from a support role. These two are clearly ahead of the field

The gaps after 15-20 laps is like 10+ seconds... this is a 2 horse race with Bottas in 3rd...

I guess this shows how talented the majority of pay drivers have actually been. Who was the Japanese driver that lost his super license around 2005/2006? I'm not following closely enough to know if that is a potential issue, or if there's enough money to get out of all consequences.

edit: looking back at the late 2000's, man it was a crazy time... Super Aguri, Virgin, 2x Lotus teams... sorta, BrawnGP

Yuji ide? Even Inuoe, who is the king of self deprecating driving ability humor, says Mazespin is gunning for his worst f1 driver of all time crown
