Nelsinho Piquet has revealed he will be racing in NASCAR this year after giving up on landing a Formula 1 drive.
The Brazilian, who has been involved in the 'crashgate' affair after leaving the Renault F1 team during the 2009 season, did not confirm in which series he will race this year, but made it clear it will be in NASCAR, meaning it will be either the Truck, the Nationwide or the Sprint Cup series.
Piquet tested a NASCAR truck from the Red Horse Racing team in October last year and is expected to test again this month.
"I have spent the last few months carefully evaluating my options for this year," Piquet wrote on his website. "I had to choose a path and it was a difficult decision to make.
"Being successful in Formula 1 was always my goal but I have learnt that happiness is just as important as ambition and after my first 18 months in F1 did not go as planned I have decided to focus on something different and have chosen to take a route in America.
"NASCAR is hugely challenging and nobody has ever come in as an outsider before and gone on to win it - it will be the ultimate challenge.
"I will let you know more details on the exact programme soon."
He added: "This will be an awesome new challenge for me, and a healthy one. I have always been open to new challenges and I will be putting everything I have into this. I have found a good group of people that are really willing to help me in my career and I am grateful that they are there for me.
"I think it will be a positive environment and a good life experience. I am sure this year is going to be fantastic and I am very excited at the prospect of my future.I will miss Europe and all the friends I have there but I will always have my successes there to be proud of.
"I am sure I'll still do some racing in Europe as I have a lot of ambitions in my life, one of which has always been to win the Le Mans 24 Hours."

Piquet is going to get murdered in NASCAR, literally, some one is just gonna tap him going down the straight, and he'll likely be so far back in the field, that he actually spins into the front of the pack.
at least he'll have experience going into the wall

PDLR's car setup/devlopment abilities shoudn't be ignored, especially when you consider that he's going to a team who can use a bit of car development.Never thought Nick was the quickest...but PLDR over Nick? Wow. That isn't even close to fair...

I wonder if he's gonna keep his Ferrari-Red helmet when he goes to Mercedes.

Then hire him as a test driver who drives on fridays. Not as a mobile chicane on the race track during a race.

He likely wouldn't leave McLaren for anything less than a race seat. Then hire him as a test driver who drives on fridays. Not as a mobile chicane on the race track during a race.

Toro Rosso possible for Brazilian
Jan.13 (GMM) Campos could release Bruno Senna so that the Brazilian rookie can sign for the 2010 season with Toro Rosso.
Citing Brazilian sources, that information was reported by Italy's Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport publications, in the wake of claims that the new Spanish team is struggling to compile a full budget for its formula one debut.
It would explain why Toro Rosso has left open the race cockpit alongside Sebastien Buemi that late last season was occupied by the Spanish youngster Jaime Alguersuari.
26-year-old Senna was signed by Campos in the hope that his famous surname would attract more sponsorships on top of his Telmex backing, but it emerged this week that it has not been so.
The Brazilian sources said Red Bull-owned Toro Rosso already has the "right" to sign Senna in the event of difficulties at Campos.
Campos was already in talks with pay drivers Vitaly Petrov and Pastor Maldonado, and the F2 champion Andy Soucek told EFE Radio this week that he is also in contact with the Spanish team.
"I am talking with Campos, and although at the moment it is complicated, I trust that it is an option," said the Spaniard.
Bruno joining the little red bulls could be a better deal for his career. at least they have yrs of experience, not to mention race winning experience which might help him in the long run. It would also work out if Bruno ran along side Vettel at some point later on in their careers.

Remember that this year the STR will have to be a fully separate car than the RBRs. Who knows how that will go.Bruno joining the little red bulls could be a better deal for his career. at least they have yrs of experience, not to mention race winning experience which might help him in the long run. I'd still take STR over most any of the new teams, however.

Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat have got information that the GP on roads of Rome will be only race in Italy.
Monza dont have the money to get a new contract with Eccelstone. Now Rome GP is to try to get the sponsors of Monza to themself. 2012 would be first year of Rome GP

yes that's a given, but don't they get to take a few lessons away from having working off Newey's design in the past?
