Anyone want to guess what F1 attendance will look like if the constructors drop out?

:eek3:

Seldom have grandstands at the edge of a Formula One circuit during an active session looked as empty as they did on Friday, as drivers conducted three hours of practice ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix.

It is believed that, at the Istanbul Park circuit, a crowd of just 20,000 can be expected for the race, moving Formula One Management to withdraw two of its planned camera angles for the television broadcasts.

come on Brawn what? What does breaking ranks w/ the FOTA and going to FarceOne next year prove? That the Mad Max show is right?

screw FOTA. at this point there will be enough teams to keep F1 going and without F1, the old teams have nothing. if you can't beat em, join em. and besides, i think the $40M cap is a necessary move. if we lose ferrari i won't lose any sleep over it.

Any big racing league has large manufacturers competing in it. NASCAR, LeMans, F1, WRC, MotoGP, etc.

Without large manufacturers that are recognizable brands to the 'common' person, they're just going to see it as another racing series that's populated by essentially generic teams. And as such, whatever racing league that the large teams form if/when they're booted from F1 will become what's seen as the pinnacle of motorsport.

other manufacturers would join up in a few years.

i don't think FOTA will be able to put something together that could compete with F1 by themselves. it would take years.

which ones?

you got US auto makers swimming with cash... wait, US is out...
China? I'd pay big bucks to see Cherry driving around with Hummer as well...
Japan? Honda and Toyota are gone... oh Subaru can join... Nissan... technically that's Renault...
Europe? well Ferrari/Fiat is out, BMW, Mercedes... I guess we can have Opel... no that's american... sort of, SEAT or VW? nope, they're doing DTM/LeMans... Citroen and Peugoet? eh maybe
Africa doesn't have any...
South America? nope...

so the major manufactures would be Chery vs Subaru vs Lamborghini vs French

I don't think it's that hard to sign contracts with 15 tracks, make up a set of specifications, sign a nice contract with ITV.

This is nothing more than Firing the FIA and FOM, not really starting a sport from scratch.

I think he meant that other manufacturers would join up with ex-F1, not F1 minus the remainder of FOTA

in which case... there aren't any real ones to joine... like DDA said VAG group is LeMans, and all the others would be back markers...

to clarify: with the new low budget cap i think there would be manufacturers interested in the new F1. who? i don't know, but they all have an interest in getting their names out there and for such a low price, they'd all give F1 a second thought. like i said, it might take a few years to build up some big names but it would happen. F1 is a big name with a lot of fans in a lot of countries.

So is the NFL...but if NFL teams decided to jump ship, I think people might follow.

If it was the Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, and Steelers starting the USFL, it certainly would have had a lot more traction.

I agree with this 100%, but is f1 bigger than all of the 9 teams that are about to bail out? I'm not so sure.

This isn't about FIA versus Ferrari as you put it. You are basically claiming that the other teams in FOTA are insignificant compared to Ferrari.

Is F1 is bigger than 1 manufacturer? Sure. Is it bigger than 2? Probably.

Is it bigger than 5 of the more storied manufacturers in motorsports? Doubtful.

F1 is bigger than Ferrari, no doubt, Ferrari is the main name, but F1 will continue without them, they'll probably take a hit, but it's got other big names that can hold up the sport...

if you take out the manufactures though that's a different story... it would become a GP2 or Formula series, which is a great feeder series, but not a main attraction...

I think M&F you're confusing major teams that want into the sport and manufactures wanting into the sport...
There are dozens of teams competing in several sports, but manufactures are a completely different story... how many teams (big names even) out there are running either a Corvette or a Porsche 911...

But F1 isn't bigger than Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Renault and Red Bull combined.

Additionally, who's going to make the engines for Williams, Force India (and Brawn?) once the big manufacturers leave? All Cosworth?

All Cosworth?

I think 4 of the new entries are wanting to use Cosworth as their engine source :eek3:

ok true, but i don't think anyone here is really willing to stick to their guns except ferrari and max mosely. the rest of those guys just bet on the horse they liked best. at least a few of those teams would stay with F1 if things swung that way.

Ferrari, BMW, Toyota and Red Bull seem the most hard-line.

Toyota, IMO, because it gives themselves an excuse to bail from F1 besides the whole "we fucking suck at it" excuse.
