FOTA-1 will have all of the prestige of F1 from a few years ago, going back to the tracks that should never have been removed from the calendar and the best drivers in the world.

But what difference does the name F1 add to the spectacle. Lets say you took the current F1 grid and then renamed the series A1, B1, or whatever... If you kept the same teams, same cars and same drivers on 'historically same' tracks it wouldn't make a difference at the end of the day except maybe a reduction in ticket prices just because its not called F1.
I guess the name F1 isn't a big deal to me at all, and isn't the reason why I was hooked by my first experience at a race. It's all about the teams, drivers and cars.

the thing that makes F1 such a big deal is the 60 years of history of being the best of the best...
take those same cars and teams and drivers in a new series, and it's exactly that... a new series... it doesn't have the history of F1, it doesn't have the same feeling or presences of F1, it's just another series...
What makes IBM so great? or Nike? it's the heritige...
what if their top engineers and designs jumped ship and started their own company...
would you drop IBM servers for Product X? or swap your running shoes from Nike to Feeties?

If the latter options were superior; yes.the thing that makes F1 such a big deal is the 60 years of history of being the best of the best...

I'm not hung up on badges or brands, honestly. They could call it MOTOR CAR RACING SERIES FOR PEOPLES WHO LIKE MOTOR CARS! and i'd still watch it if McLaren, Ferrari, BMW-Sauber, Brawn, etc. were in it.

They later claimed the German accent part and Nazi connotations were falsified. FWIW, Max sued that newspaper and won.The worst part about that scandal for me was that I read he spoke with a (bad) German accent and whipped one of the prostitutes while possibly trying to role play a concentration camp guard punishing a prisoner. Remember that Max's father was the founder of the Nazi party in the England and that Hitler did attend his father's wedding. Why this relation wasn't more shocking, I'm not sure.

None of them use their shift key consistently, and I hate them for it.
On a side note, I don't post in OT f1 threads...taht would be like cheating on your SO or spending father's day with your uncle....but here are a few classic lines from the breakaway thread:

The new series...if done right...will be more like classic f1 than its current form. The only good thing Bernie & Max have done is not canceling monaco and spa...that's it. I think to rescue the spirit of F1, you have to get it out of their hands. I'm sure it'll suck at times, and there will be bumps in the road, but at least many of us have more hope than "when is bernie gonna die?!?!!?"the thing that makes F1 such a big deal is the 60 years of history of being the best of the best...
