The 2009 WilliamsWilliams have unveiled the livery for their new FW31 ahead of a season that they hope will see the outfit return to fully competitive form.
The car has run so far in winter testing in a plain blue livery, but the team used a media day at their factory on Thursday to show off the definitive blue-and-white colour scheme in which the car will contest the forthcoming season.
The team sacrificed much of last year so they could focus on their 2009 design, and team boss Frank Williams is hopeful that the efforts will pay off.
Although he admits it would be a dream to win a race, Williams thinks becoming a thorn in the side of the established top three this year would be reason enough to feel happy with their performance.
"We'd love to be a winner or in the top three all the time," said Williams. "But to be very close to the top three would be a big step for year one. It's by no means impossible, but it depends how good we've been this winter. We might get lucky with the car."
The livery unveiling of the FW31 coincided with the car featuring cockpit sails, labelled 'skate fins' by the team, for the first time. They are designed to channel air over the car and onto the rear wing.
The team believe that a big shake up of regulations this year could help them rediscover the form that has left them unable to win since Juan Pablo Montoya's victory in the 2004 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Nico Rosberg said: "The rule changes are a fantastic thing for us, definitely. A really good thing for us. There's no copying to do, nothing. It's just your own ideas.
"You start from zero, from scratch, like every other team. You have this set of rules and you need to make the best possible car for it."

not so
if you notice the WTF panels sticking out of the bodywork... this is almost as bad as honda's dumbo-ears
They are the radar ears to the mechanical head when the car turns into a giant robot and blows up cars with its laser guns, lol.

You need those because Michael Bay wanted the mass to stay the same.
I like the livery though! :biggthumb:

Nissan GTRNissan will return to top-line European sportscar racing this season with a four-round FIA GT Championship programme in partnership with Gigawave Motorsport.
Aston Martin driver Darren Turner and long-time factory Nissan racer Michael Krumm are set to drive a new Nissan GT-R as a precursor to an entry in the proposed new GT1 world championship that FIA GT boss Stephane Ratel is creating for 2010.
A Nissan statement said the purpose of the four 2009 appearances was to "check the performance of cars to be sold to racing teams competing in the
FIA-GT1 class." The Nissan will not be eligible for FIA GT points this season.
The car has been developed by Nissan's in-house motorsport company NISMO, who will run it in partnership with Gigawave. Autosport revealed last month that Krumm had already tested the car in secret in Japan.
The project is Nissan's first major worldwide sportscar programme since they fought for outright victory at Le Mans in the late 1990s.

no AWD in GT1 either..I'm interested to see how it fares without all it's electronic aids.
i don't see the GT-R running away with it in GT1.
furthermore the GT-R in Super GT doesn't even use an engine derived from the VR38DETT. it's a V8 (VK45DE)

do they even use factory chassis?
not really..
Regulations in GT500 are considerably looser than most GT classifications, and teams are free to change engines with other models made by the manufacturer, change the alignment of the engine, or add forced-induction systems to models which do not normally have it. The chassis may also be heavily modified, with lightweight tube-frame "clips" being allowed forward and back of the main cockpit, although the car must overall look similar to its road-going variant.
so basically they take the main cockpit from the original chassis, reinforce the shit out of it and then build up the remainder of the car w/ a tube-frame.
example: IS350 SuperGT car
reinforced main cockpit:

and the rest is tubular:
