alex rossi might be the only young american chance, thought i don't know how well he's done since he left Formula BMW for IFM.

2nd at Brands Hatch and a win last month...

Kero and I have a friend who's American / Japanese / Thai. He was last racing in Formula Renault about a yr ago, but ran out of sponsorship money or something.... not sure what really happened.

He was rookie of the yr when he first raced in Formula BMW Asia and was on the up and up even raced along side some of the guys currently in GP2.

Maybe we should introduce him to the world media???

So anyone expecting Jaime Algeursauri to finish the race this weekend? The guy has never done anything in a F1 car outside of straight line tests...

I say in the race, he'll run off a couple times, have a horrible start, and I expect him to retire within the first 15-20 laps...

This... Also if he doesn't start from the back row there may be a 1st corner crash.. :o

I'm hoping he proves us wrong though, it'd be nice to have a whole new generation of young F1 stars (Vettel, Ham, Sutil, Count Chocula, Algeursauri) fighting with the old guard (Webbo, Fred, Massa, Cubicle, Jens, Woobens)

I mean Vettel started F1 really young too, but at least he had some testing experience so he at least knew what to expect come the first turn...
this new kid, he knows how to stop and start basically...

at least he can't do worse then Seb whos' retired in 1/2 the races, the bar isn't exactly that high :o

The dude is probably going to squeeze in 250 laps over the 3 practices....that being said, he's either going to cause a wreck or finish dead last.

Stupid testing bans :noes:

what's odd is the choice STR went with to only have him run straight line tests before confirming him as a driver. they could have used him under the 'young driver development testing' clause and had a full test with him too if they knew le seb was going to get the axe

Toro Rosso's newest driver only has two straight-line aero tests to rely upon as he takes over the STR4 cockpit vacated by Sebastien Bourdais last week.

Red Bull to retain Webber for 2010

By Matt Beer Thursday, July 23rd 2009, 12:29 GMT

German Grand Prix winner Mark Webber will stay on with Red Bull Racing for the 2010 season after agreeing a new deal with the team.

The Australian joined Red Bull from Williams in 2007, having previously raced for the squad in its Jaguar incarnation, and has benefited from its big leap forward to become a title contender this year - despite breaking his leg and shoulder in a winter cycling accident.

"I'm delighted that we have re-signed Mark for 2010," said team boss Christian Horner.

"He has continued to show huge commitment and determination this season, especially following his bike accident at the end of last year.

"His recent results show he is on the form of his life - most notably with his recent win at the German GP - and he has the motivation to deliver at the highest level. It was therefore a straightforward decision to extend the relationship.

"We believe that the driver line-up of Mark and Sebastian [Vettel] is one of the strongest in the sport."

Webber said he had always been keen to remain with the team, and hopes he can carry his current strong form into 2010.

"I'm extremely happy that Red Bull and I have been able to agree to race together again next year," he said.

"Even in the leaner and tougher years at the start of my relationship with the team, I've always enjoyed working with them, so now to go through this purple patch, which we hope will continue for a good while to come, makes the work even more enjoyable.

"We've got a very exciting finish to this year's championship, but I'm also looking forward to helping to develop and race the RB6 in the 2010 world championship."

So RBR lineup is set, Macca probably won't change. Commence silly season!

Nico Rosberg on Thursday boiled his options for the 2010 season down to three teams: McLaren, BMW, and Williams.

The 24-year-old German currently drives for the latter British team, for whom he debuted almost four seasons ago, but recent speculation has linked him with moves next year to BMW Sauber or McLaren Mercedes.

"Obviously from my side, McLaren and BMW would be interesting options for next season," he admitted in an interview with the news agency DPA ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest.

However, to reporters at the Hungaroring circuit, Rosberg insisted that staying put at Grove-based Williams for a fifth consecutive season is also a strong option for 2010.

"For sure Williams is also a very strong option because they have been doing a strong job for me recently," he said on the back of five consecutive points finishes, including a fourth-place finish in Germany two weeks ago.

"Williams are currently the third-strongest team along with Ferrari. That's a very good position and as a result Williams is also a possibility for next year," added Rosberg.

maybe, maybe not

I read somewhere that Haug was possibly interested in Nico... get a German in a German car...

Nico deserves to have a chance in a competitive car. Are Williams going to stick with the Toyota powerplant for '10?

Less than 30 percent of the tickets for the forthcoming European Grand Prix have been sold, organisers of the Valencia street race have admitted.

The inaugural event in the Spanish port city, with an attendance capacity of 112,000, was nearly sold out last year.

But with only one month to go until the 2009 edition, chief organiser Carlos Garcia revealed that ticket sales this time are not going well.

"It is not the best situation. We are content with the rhythm of sales and hope to reach 80 or 90 percent, although at the moment we have about 30,000 sold," he said.

"We must not forget that many tickets are sold abroad and many bookings are made by internet at the last moment," Garcia added.

no surprise, it was such a boring race last year...

Not to mention the Spanish F1 fans are probably the biggest fairweather fans ever. If their guy Fred isn't doing well they don't give a shit about F1.
