Canada is set to return to the Formula One calendar next year, Bernie Ecclestone has said.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve event was omitted from this year's schedule after the F1 chief executive failed to agree financial terms with race organisers.

However Ecclestone has been under intense pressure to reinstate the race as soon as possible, especially as the crucial North American market is now completely missing from the calendar.

"I promise we will be in Montreal in 2010," he told Switzerland's Motorsport Aktuell. "Everyone in Formula One loves the Canadian Grand Prix."

He had bad news however for those hoping the United States might quickly return to the schedule. "Forget Indianapolis. We're not going back there," he said.

Ecclestone also suggested that Britain's annual date is not under threat, explaining that if Donington can deliver "then we will be there - if not, then we will be staying in Silverstone.”

Ecclestone also said he hopes Korea and India are the next countries to host Grand Prix.

i believe the race will be the first or second week of june.

when the FOTA calendar was leaked i booked some rooms in Montreal for June through the various hotels. Those dates have now been blocked off and cannot be reserved.

glad montreal is back. i will be there next year.

The Ferrari team has hit out at rival Williams over its decision not to allow Michael Schumacher to test this year's car ahead of his return to action at the European Grand Prix.

Ferrari asked all Formula 1 teams for permission to have a one-day test for Schumacher ahead of the Valencia race, where the German will replace the injured Felipe Massa.

On Tuesday, Ferrari hit out at Williams, saying the team had demonstrated a lack of spirit of fair play. The Italian squad referred to its rival as "a team that hasn't won anything for years."

Ferrari also revealed it had given Toro Rosso its approval to test rookie Jaime Alguersuari ahead of his debut in Hungary.

"Guess who opposed the test with the F60? A team that hasn't won anything for years and yet didn't pass over the opportunity to demonstrate once more a lack of spirit of fair play," Ferrari wrote in its official website under the title 'Indiscretion'.

"Just for the record, the Scuderia Ferrari had given its approval to let Alguersuari test, but it seems even in this instance someone decided to stick to the precise wording of the regulations."

Team boss Frank Williams said on Monday that he welcomed Schumacher back in F1, but that his team would not allow him to test.

"While we welcome Michael Schumacher back to Formula 1, the fact is that any form of in-season circuit testing is strictly prohibited; a regulation clearly laid out by the FIA and adhered to by all of the teams," Williams said.

"It was for this reason that Alguersuari, who drove an F1 car for the very first time in Hungary, did not have the opportunity to familiarise himself with the Toro Rosso before he made his race debut.

"Williams sees no distinction between Alguersuari's situation and Schumacher's and feels that any deviation from the rule would create a precedent for the future.

"In a similar situation, Williams would unhesitatingly use its current test driver. For the sake of consistency and fairness, therefore, we oppose Ferrari's proposal to test ahead of the European Grand Prix."

Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz also said yesterday that his teams were opposing the test.

A Williams spokesperson told AUTOSPORT the team was not planning a response.

"I don't think we would wish to dignify Ferrari's statement with a reply," he said.

shut up Ferrari...
testing ban is a testing ban, you already got around it with a "client" F2007 with GP2 spec slicks... put michael in the simulator and call it a day...

Michael Schumacher will reportedly be paid €1m per race and a bonus €1m per victory when he begins substituting for injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa as from the European Grand Prix later this month.

The German daily Die Tageszeitung also said the 40-year-old German is very likely to have his non-driving advisory contract with the Maranello-based team renewed.

The agreement, estimated to be worth at least €5m per season to the seven time world champion, is currently set to expire at the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Schumacher has called off his participation in a motorcycle race this weekend.
He was scheduled to take part in a Dutch Superbike race during the Rizla Racing Day at Assen in the Netherlands.

However due to his impending F1 return, Schumacher has informed the organisers that he will now not be competing, according to the De Telegraaf newspaper.

Only 1.7-1.8m per race.. Life must be hard when you make more in one weekend than majority of people make in 30 years.

years back I did a calculation of how much Jordan made per minute of actual game play in a season... off the top of my head it was like $8000 per minute...

also, Kimi lives in Switzerland... so he doesn't pay taxes... that's pure income... compared to some of the others that live in the UK/US with 40% tax rate?

Yep on the tax thing...well almost, I'm sure he's paying somewhere around the 11.5 cap%

http://www.taxation..../path/1-534.htm

Still totally ridiculous.

I remember when A-Rod signed with the texans....his salary calculated out to about 45k per at bat, or about 7k per pitch.

Oh, and brb, moving to Switzerland

look at it this way...
He brought the WDC and helped bring the WCC back to Ferrari after 2 years that Michael couldn't...while being his first year at Ferrari (ie:new team)... without the super team of Brawn and Co...and still having the same teammate that Michael had...
winning by 1 point or winning by 150 points, you're still #1 in any sport...

If you think of it in a literal sense, Williams is going against safety by not allowing Schumacher to test. What if Alguersuari stalled on the grid not knowing how to properly launch an F1 car and a fatal accident ensued? I'm not saying Schumacher is a rookie or a dummy but he is human after all.

It is also hard to define testing. What if Ferrari said no data would be logged during the 'practice' sessions and Schumacher was only driving the car. Hardly see that as any benefit or within the definition of testing.

Bring your hate, I'm ready for it :o
