RD: A little concussed. But not as a result of anything other than the trauma of the accident – there's no damage or bruising or bleeding. So we're quite optimistic about the next race.
I'm not a doctor so I must qualify what I say – I spoke to our doctor at the hospital and we're quite optimistic that at this very early stage he'll be able to race because there is no damage, bruising or bleeding.
...
Q. Were you in radio communication with him?
RD: No, he was unconscious initially.
looks like he'll be fine..

wouldn't surprise me... i got the wind knocked out of me going head on into a tire barrier going 35mph, let alone going 140-160mph that he was going...

Yeah haha.. wondered WTF was up there. Though I guess it is his 'home' race, support no matter what.Alonso sounded genuinely upbeat when Louise found him

If I found that controller to Alonso I can imagine I'd spend the next several hours throwing it into the wall and stomping on it.has anyone seen this ad before?

so what happened?
“We had an engine problem and we blew up,” he told ITV Sport‘s Louise Goodman.
“Unfortunately it is not in the right place because I am in my home grand prix, but I am very happy because Massa stopped just two [sic] laps later than me so the qualifying performance qualifying was quite okay.
“In the race as well, we were close to the BMWs.
“I can enjoy races again now.”
Although Alonso’s exit ensured the team failed to pick up points for a second successive race following Nelson Piquet Jr’s earlier collision, Renault's radically updated R28 car has demonstrated a clear step forward in pace this weekend.
When asked if he thought the former champions could continue to make good progress for the forthcoming races, Alonso replied: “I think so.
“The team will keep working; for sure we have found a good direction to go.
“We know there are some areas of the car where we are not at the top, so step-by-step hopefully we can get there.
“The first step we did already and we are happy.”
