i wonder what would have happened if Senna joined BrawnGP instead of Rubens... :mamoru:

Then everyone would be saying " Lewis who?"

Doubtful. He's not shown the total and outright speed in GP2 to make me think he'd dominated F1. Hell, half the guys who are winning GP2 come to F1 and fizzle out.

I was stuck on an island and didnt watch, but the results leave me scratching my head. I thought Kers were supposed to be an advantage.

From what the commentators were saying, having KERS is equal to not having it in terms of performance.

And? Dude was driving a RBR with a powerplant that was known to be down 60+ HP.

Everyone sweats Webbo's nuts, but dude was never on the podium.

Webber tanked at Williams, and is now a second rate driver at RBR.

He'll never recover unless he gets himself into a car like BrawnGP. Jenson is one lucky SOB to be finally driving a good car.

I'm not saying Rubens is any better than Coulthard, they're both over the hill and needs to stick to none driving roles if they want to stay within the F1 circle.

i think its a team-by-team thing.. if it wasn't a benefit then teams like renault, ferrari and mclaren wouldn't bother using it.

for all we know those 3 cars could be absolute shit and only being moderately competitive w/ KERS... and quick nick in the BMW just plain sucks.

i don't think 1 weekend is enough of a sample size to comprehensively say there is no benefit from KERS.

The teams don't seem terribly impressed with it, mostly due to taking away from their being able to control the weight distribution.

Off topic...

I think the rule changes are working...I've told my buddy before about F1, and he hasn't given a rats ass about it. He saw a special on KERS before the F1 race this past Saturday and decided he wanted to see KERS in action. So he watched the race a bit, and got hooked and ended up watching the entire thing. Decided to do all the research and now he's asking me tons of questions about the drivers/cars/teams. Calling them by their chassis designation.

Pretty cool - I hope F1 is attracting other fans around the world...I've tried to sell F1 here, but no one really cares or understands. But one at a time, I suppose.

yeah, because they go from a winning car to some back marker or mid-fielder team... Lewis was handed a car on a silver platter. I'm pretty sure Nico could be fast if given a competitive car... hell, look what Vettel did in STR, and even this first race in the RBR... i'm not saying Senna would dominate either, but i'd like to see him have a shot sooner or later...

Winning car? GP2 is a spec series....

Lewis was handed a great car at McMerc, and then proceeded to match the reigning WDC's pace in the same car. The same WDC that was only man to truly usurp the great Michael Schumacher's dominance.

Nico seems like he can be quick, at times, but hasn't really matched that with his drives. This past GP is a good example. Glock's a liability in the Toyota and I don't think Buemi is really dazzling. Hekki has also not really done anything overly impressive that I've seen. Piquet Jr..... enough said there.

Probably alot like what he did Sunday in Melbourne....

Why does everyone act like he's only good because of the car? It's not like he was Piquet to Alonso over at Renault. Or Boobens to Schumi.

Don't get me wrong, I think Webber is a good driver, I was one of the few that wanted to see Webber and Jenson together in Williams back in the day.

But fact is that his career, very much like Jensons, fizzled due to uncompetitive cars. These are both guys that I believe can win the WDC in a competitive car, but fact is they're both getting to a point in their careers that they no longer have the edge to other 1st rate drivers. (Jenson only has a shot this yr because his car is that much better than everyone elses.)

I think at Webber's best he could have given Alonso a run for his money in the same car. Not sure if he could have beat Alonso, but I'm sure he would have pushed Alonso to the limits. But if you say Webber (now) can beat Alonso in the same car, I'd say he's lost that edge having spent too much time in Williams and Redbull to be able to pull that off.

I use Alonso as a comparison because they both drove for Minardi, and since then, one's become a double WDC and the other has left a lot of unanswered questions.

Pretty much :hs:

The fact that he chose Williams over Renault probably killed his career :hs:

if its not nick thats slow and the KERS makes the car so terrible then we'll know in 3 days when both BMWs are not running KERS. if there is no calculated advantage to the KERS then the engineers wouldn't use it because it would save on the number of parts that could go wrong in the first place.

Shameless plug :eek3: :

Our company created a new app which uses twitter feeds (for now) and other feeds to create a central place to read about events. I've created an even for the 2009 season and am collecting feeds from all Twitter posts about F1: http://www.tinker.co...e_championship/

For a good explanation, read the TechCrunch article: http://www.techcrunc...vents-firehose/

spec series yes, but not all teams are created equal... (ie: if F1 were spec like gp2, are you saying the same driver in a Force India would win as much as if he was in a Ferrari?)
and if reports are true, about how Kovy was treated as a #2 last year at McLaren, then i don't doubt that when Alonso was complaining that Lewis was getting prefered treatment, that that was true as well...

I have said that Lewis is a good driver several times, but he lucked out coming into F1 when McLaren was basically the best car on the grid and one of the top teams. I mean look at Kimi, when he was at McLaren, those cars were made of glass and blew up every race, put a good car under him and he won the world championship first time out... the Renault was the car to beat in 2005 and 2006.

that said, Lewis wouldn't be the second coming of christ if he started off on shit cars like every other rookie...he'd be a standout, that's for sure. he's definatelly one of the best young guns out there. I think that Alonso would be a 3 time champ right now if Lewis wasn't in the McLaren in 2007...
hell, what would've happened if Vettel ended up with a good team, toss him in a Ferrari, McLaren, or BGP car and see what the kid can really do... he's probably one of the best out there right now, but he's not in a top drive... Piquet is just a cluster...
