Agreement reached on sale of BMW Sauber team

BMW Sauber’s hopes of staying on the grid next season received a boost on Tuesday after BMW confirmed it has reached agreement on the sale of the team. The German car maker is pulling out of Formula One racing at the end of 2009.

Qadbak Investments Ltd, a Swiss-based foundation which represents the interests of certain Middle East and European based families, has agreed to purchase the team, based in Hinwil, Switzerland. Qadbak´s interest in the team will be represented by Lionel Fischer, a Swiss national.

“BMW wishes Qadbak and the Sauber Team every success for the 2010 season and beyond,” said BMW in an official statement announcing the deal.

The recent uncertainty surrounding BMW Sauber’s future means they do not have a confirmed entry for next season. However, the FIA has said it will be pressing for a 14-team field in 2010, with BMW Sauber guaranteed the final slot if the necessary rule changes can be agreed.

So what do you think will happen if the Renault scandal turns out to be true? They have already granted amnesty to Symonds so he will testify. You also have to ask yourself why Piquet would jeopardize any ride anywhere by making something up when he could have just taken a race seat in some other race series and gone on with his life like other racers who were not successful in F1.

Is Renault desperate for results to keep the F1 program going trying to better their results by crashing one of their vehicles the same as Prost and Senna crashing each other out to win world drivers championships?

I still don't see why he's blacklisting himself so hard just to get a parting shot in at Renault.

I think he knew he had no chance in hell of getting another ride in F1...but he has jepordized the rest of his career with this silly stunt of his.

Barrichello seeks Massa inspiration

By Michele Lostia Tuesday, September 15th 2009, 12:39 GMT

Rubens Barrichello says he will use Felipe Massa's advice to try and win next weekend's Singapore Grand Prix.

The Brawn driver, currently trailing team-mate Jenson Button by 14 points in the championship, will arrive in Singapore as one of the favourites for victory after having won two of the last three races.

Barrichello revealed he had already used Massa's advice to win the European Grand Prix at Valencia, and he will resort to the Ferrari driver's expertise again to try and conquer the Singapore Grand Prix.

"You know how I will prepare for Singapore? I will go sleep every night at Felipe Massa's place," Barrichello was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I had been at his home before Valencia and he explained to me how to deal with that track where he dominated last year. And then I won. He also flew at Singapore, so I want him to tell me how he did it.

"I will get there more prepared this year: they've modified some corners, the track has been re-surfaced and all those terrible bumps should be gone. I wear contact lenses and I would have a headache whenever I stepped out of the car. Now I know what to expect."

Maybe this whole issue isn't about Piquet at all... Did the FIA initiate the whole thing from the beginning? Find a disgruntled ex-employee with inside knowledge to try and hit back at Flavio, who has openly been the biggest opponent of Mad Max and Berns. I'd be willing to bet that everyone on the Renault team has been offered 'immunity' except the Flav.

Maybe they think once Flav is out, Nelson can get back in after Alonso leaves. And they demote Grojean back to test driver and bring in Kimi?

Well let's look at his options. I don't think Kimi's done with F1 yet. He's still more than capable of winning another championship given a car that can compete consistently in the top 8.

It's very unlikely he would drive at any of the new teams, this includes Sauber if they make it back on the grid next yr. Say Alonso is at Ferrari next yr, would McLaren really want Kimi back? After all those years of failed championships....

The best option for Kimi is to stay at Ferrari or move back to McLaren. But if none of those seats are available, where would he move to?

We have to assume there is a big chance of Rosberg moving to McLaren. Perhaps a bigger chance than Kimi moving back. And if Rosberg goes to McLaren, then the Brawn duo should stay put. RedBull seats are solid, Farce India is put too.

Then we're left with Williams, Renault, Toyota and Torro Roso. Out of those 4 remainder teams, I only see Renault as a team that can even remotely come close to affording Kimi's salary and still give him a half-way decent car to drive.

The Williams might be a better drive, but they won't be able to even come close to Kimi's salary. Toyota can afford to pay Kimi, but their car will be shit. Torro Rosso is B team that neither has the resources to provide Kimi with anything, not even a vodka sponsorship to keep him happy.

I don't think Webber's seat at Red Bull is safe. I could see Kimi in there in a heartbeat.

Pretty sure Mclaren would rather have a proven winner than a hyped might-be that is Rosberg. Also if that doesnt work out I can guarantee you that Brawn would make room for him. Remember Fry offering Alonso an open cheque? same thing would happen with Kimi.

Renault fires Formula One team leaders, won't defend against 'race fixing' charges

Renault saga: Briatore now twisting in the wind?

Renault has fired Formula One team principal Flavio Briatore and engineering director Pat Symonds and says it will offer no defense to the allegation it "fixed" the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix by ordering Nelson Piquet Jr. to crash.

Renault is set to appear at a hearing before the World Motor Sport Council on Monday.

Briatore and Symonds stand accused of asking Piquet to crash deliberately early in the race to bring out the safety car, which enabled teammate Fernando Alonso to move to the head of the field. Alonso went on to win the race.

Renault's decision to admit the guilt of its wholly owned team, and to fire two of the best-known personalities in F1, will not cause the FIA to cancel the hearing. The governing body wants to know whether anyone else in the team had knowledge of the race-fixing conspiracy, in particular Alonso. In addition, the council will impose a penalty on the team. For its part, Renault will use the opportunity to plead for clemency.

The Renault board of directors is expected to make a decision about its ongoing participation in F1 after the World Motor Sport Council's judgments.

Everyone would rather have a proven winner but they don't always get it. Keep in mind who they do end up putting in the cars and when it did happen, those drivers were not always proven winners.

My point?

Kimi when he went to McLaren: from Sauber with no F1 wins
Heikki when he went to McLaren: from Renault with no F1 wins
Lewis when he started at McLaren: from GP2 with no F1 wins. (GP2 champ doesn't mean shit, look at Glock)
Mika when he went to McLaren: from Lotus with no F1 wins
Andretti when he started at McLaren: from CART with no F1 wins (CART champ... need I say more?)

Besides would Kimi really go back to McLaren?

On the other note, it would be nice to see Rosberg at Brawn, but with the recent activities between Brawn, McLaren, Redbull and Mercedes who knows where Rosberg will end up. McLaren has a say about Mercedes's activities in F1 so they will keep their cards close. But I can guarantee unless Kimi takes a massive pay cut, he WILL NOT end up at Brawn.

Which still leaves a high likelihood that Renault could host a drive for Kimi, even is it's just for 1 season. Remember, even Button was on loan to Renault from Williams for a while.

All of the examples you listed were because of potential but also because there werent better options available. For example Kimi to Macca from Sauber well the rumour was that Heidfeld would get that seat so they didnt have Schumi lined up or anything. Kova to Mclaren? Because Alonso left. Lewis to Mclaren? Long term Mclaren, just won GP2, who else would you put in there? PDLR?

What Im saying is given the choice between Rosberg and Kimi any team would pick Kimi.
