USF1, at least for now, is finally dead.
The American team, who had an entry for the 2010 season but failed to be ready in time, has completely closed down its operations at its Charlotte base.
In the past week, permanent layoff notices were sent in writing to all of the USF1 staff, who until now had been on unpaid leave.
In the letters, team principal Ken Anderson noted that the employees might be rehired in the future "if business conditions improve", but explained that "serious economic and funding challenges" have ended the project.
It emerges that up to ten of the employees have filed grievances with North Carolina's Department of Labor over unpaid wages.
Anderson could not be reached for comment, and sporting director Peter Windsor was not mentioned in the layoff notice.

And now he's back in red driving a Ferrari F430 in the GT championship. With none other than Giancarlo Fisichella as his teammate!Jean Alesi has my perfect life. Race Formula 1, retire, then buy a vineyard in the Cote du Rhone replete with his your old F1 cars in a mini-museum, then make it out to a classic race here or there. Fucking baller.

David Coulthard has announced that he will return to racing in the DTM this season with Mercedes.
This week's AUTOSPORT magazine revealed that a deal for Coulthard to drive a 2008 Mercedes for the Mucke team was all but done after successful winter tests, and the Scot has confirmed this morning that his DTM move will go ahead.
With no clashes between the DTM and Formula 1, Coulthard will also continue his role as a pundit for the BBC's F1 coverage.
"I didn't actively look to race anything through 2009 but at the season finale DTM race I really got the buzz and the tingle again for the competition," Coulthard told BBC Sport.
"That led to a test with Mercedes, which led to me making the decision that I'd like to dovetail my BBC work with racing in the DTM.
"There's a reasonable level of technology involved in the cars, it's a professionally run championship and in Mercedes there's a company I worked with for seven year in my time at McLaren."
The 39-year-old Scot took 13 victories and 12 pole positions during a 247-race grand prix career with Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. Coulthard said that he would never have considered a return to F1, but was still keen to compete elsewhere.
"I had a call from one of the teams which I never returned because people in F1 knew I wasn't looking to make a return in F1," he said.
"The adrenaline is the thing I miss in everyday life. Do I miss the competition? Only because I know how much fun it is to compete. But there's not a big void in my life which means I'm missing it.
"But if I can do a championship which fits with my other commitments and I get the buzz you get behind the wheel of a racing car, then why would I not take it? I'm almost 40, I won't have that option open to me when I'm almost 50."
Coulthard joins fellow ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher, and McLaren and Force India F1 reserves Gary Paffett and Paul di Resta, in the Mercedes line-up.

http://www.autosport...ne.php/id/82731There were people late that afternoon reckoning AUTOSPORT.com's stories on Michelin's potential return to F1, and the ban on outboard mirrors, were April Fools' rather than proper news stories!
I guess Michelin return is not a 4/1 joke.

it's about an hour of the BBC team talking about the race... they also have guests talk about stuff... so far it's only been McLaren members talking, so i dunno how much variety it is, but still nice to hear the context of some quotes we read online...
i download them myself, but i can upload it to share if there is interest...

Some drivers said it was too dark by the time the race was reaching its end, after the start of the event was moved to a later hour in order to be at a more friendly time for European viewers.
AUTOSPORT learned last week that the start time of next year's race is to be brought forward, after FIA carried out a light test that deemed it was too dark.
"By the end of the race it was certainly too dark and I understand the FIA has measured this and will take action for next year," said Michael Schumacher after the race.
"But at least there seem to be some guidelines now as to what light conditions you have to have as a minimum for the future."
Walker, however, said there was no danger in the lighting conditions and slammed drivers as "prima donnas".
"It's clearly not dangerous," Walker was quoted as saying by the Herald Sun newspaper.
"You can't please these drivers, they are a bunch of lazy people who won't do anything to help the sport, except for two or three.
"A lot of drivers are prima donnas. They are never happy," he added.
