Pretty sure he's won a nice share of his GPs, and placed higher than any rookie has, ever, AND beat his 2 time WDC teammate. But i guess that doesn't count, somehow. A bunch of F1 drivers have done that in their entire careers, let alone their first season, right?

Again, TONS of people rode kimi's balls before he won a WDC, and you seldom saw anyone bitch that he 'hadn't won shit' and didn't deserve praise/fans.

If the Fins or the Germans, or hell, anyone, had a new, rookie driver hit with such an impact on the sport straight away, you're out of your mind if you don't think that their country, and F1 in general, wouldn't have made them an instant celebrity. Especially with F1 desperate for that personality to step up and fill MS' old 'Face of F1' role.

Being a great rookie still doesn't make you the 2nd coming of christ.

And yeah, any other countries media would sackride their star...but the british do it to a whole new level. Their media outlets are the most watched in the world, and like it or not, f1 is really a british sport...they ride hammy's sack and more the world has to watch than any nation doing the same...it's annoying as fuck.

Far from accomplishing 'nothing'

So it's Hamilton's fault that he's hyped up?

Makes total sense.

Exactly.

Kind of funny how Lewis is now the douche, and Alonso is not so much of an asshole anymore

When did that happen?

 Because if someone knocked on your door and offered you a chance to cash in on the fame you already had, you'd say "No, I'm fine." And wasn't the play thing a gig pushed by the McMerc sponsors? Id' think so, based on the driving suit wearing....

PS: I saw a billboard of Danica Patrick earlier.... you want to talk about someone that's hyped up like mad that's not really won anything on track, that's a MUCH better example.

Speaking of which, how many GPs has your boy Quick Nick won...... :o

In yet another setback for the embattled FIA President Max Mosley, it has emerged that his deputy has actually been appointed the governing body's official representative for next weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

The development means that Mosley, set to face a confidence vote of the FIA senate early next month, will be conferred little more status than a mere spectator, as rumours continue that other paddock residents will attempt to avoid the scandal-gripped Briton.

The British newspaper The Daily Mail claims that the Monaco Royal Family, the Grimaldis, made it clear that Mosley - caught recently in a sadomasochistic romp with five prostitutes - is not officially welcome at F1's marquee event.

Measures will reportedly be in place to keep the parties apart in the paddock and on the grid.

It has emerged that Marco Piccinini, the Paris body's Deputy President, will in fact be the official FIA representative for Monaco, despite Mosley's scheduled attendance.

It is also believed that Mosley, 68, will not attend the post-race gala dinner, or the podium ceremony.

A spokesman for Monaco's Royal Palace confirmed to The Times newspaper that there is 'no question' of Prince Albert meeting with Mosley.

"We have just been informed that Mr Marco Piccinini will represent the FIA at the Monaco Grand Prix," he said.

"The Prince will only meet the official representative of the FIA, but maybe Mr Mosley will come as a private person to the Grand Prix," the spokesman added.

Takuma Sato could find himself back on the Formula One tracks in the near future.

Just over a week after expressing his sadness at the collapse of his race employer Super Aguri, the Japanese driver is being linked with a swift return to the limelight.

Rumours were already swirling inside the Istanbul paddock last weekend that the 31-year-old might replace the veteran Rubens Barrichello, whose contract is set to expire, at the works Honda team in 2009.

The slightly less obvious speculation, meanwhile, was reported by the normally authoritative French magazine AutoHebdo, who are linking Sato's predicament with the disappointing performance of Renault rookie Nelson Piquet.

So dissatisfied is Renault with 22-year-old Piquet, AutoHebdo claims, that the French team is considering a shootout test early this summer to decide on his replacement.

Romain Grosjean, the French-Swiss rookie who is a Renault test driver this year, and Super Aguri refugee Sato, are reportedly top of the list for the shootout.

Heard an interesting rumour today.......

Renault is tapping the Japanese sponsors market with Yamamoto-chan and Sato-san.
Would be very diabolical yet fantastic to boost their budget AND great news for Sato if it is true.

Although I must say that should Sato-san go back to Honda and team up with Button, I wonder if he will show his maturity and who knows, even prove more of a challenge to Button than Rubens now.

I just had a literally laugh out loud thought: what if some new team comes in and decides they want experienced drivers to help their development go faster...........imagine Fisichella AND Barrichello on a team together , maybe even put DC in there for laughs.

Viagra, Gold Bond, Huggies, and the like would jump on the sponsorship train !

and one conclusion from Paul Ricard TTTT testing = Renault made Piquet Jr do a TON of laps in the rain AND dry to hope that he will no longer screw up.

That's exactly what bothers me about him, he has chosen to whore himself out instead of being humble. If people were heaping praise on me before I had finished a job, I'd honestly be more worried about fucking it up (read china and the slow start to this season) and looking like a fool later than cashing in now...especially if my base salary was already over 7 figures. I'm not gonna knock him for endorsing tag or signing a sneaker deal, it's his cockiness and seeming sense of entitlement he has that get on my nerves.

Totally agree with your point on Danica.

And yeah, I know nick ain't the fastest driver on the grid, but he seems like a good guy and is hysterical for a german. But then again, how many races has Nick done in a top echelon drive? Arguably only the first few of races this year.
