He's right that its a buyers market, but the whole idea of USF1 was supposed to be a US-based team with American drivers and American support. Now it's looking like its just going to be another mid-pack F1 team that the American public will soon forget/stop caring about, only it happens to have a factory in North Carolina...

I disagree...as long as they are going to ween out the non-US driver after a year or 2, I think it's a good move.

it's always looked like that to me...
I mean look at it... there hasn't been a race in the US for years... when we do show a race on tv (not speed) they have to tone down the commentary to explain the differences between F1 and Nascar, and then on top of that, what american drivers drive at F1 levels? Like I've said tons of times before, LeSeb was a 4 time champion in a US series and he got his ass handed to him by an 18 year old rookie...

If that Euro guy is doing well, what incentive do they have down the road to replace him with an untested American driver if they are showing that there is already no incentive now? It seems obvious to me that they should have at least contacted Scott Speed if they were serious about getting an American team w/ American drivers. The guys has proven that he is capable of handling F1 speeds and although he might not have been top-class at least he could have served as a 'placeholder' for a young upcoming US star.

How do you know they didn't contact SS and not get their offer turned down?

I'd believe this. He's a Red Bull driver, and driving for USF1 would ruin his career with that big-time dream-sponsorship.

On LeSeb, that 18 year old rookie just happened to turn out to be the next big thing in F1, so in retrospect I think he drove better than we thought he was.

On TeamAmerica (as Murray Walker wishes it was going to be called :o ), run whoever they want. And I do think Scott Speed would be a decent starting point, however he didn't burn his Red Bull bridges and runs a full time Cup Car. That is actually kind of a big deal in the motor racing world, to have a paid for Cup ride. He might figure if he ever wants to do F1 and be competitive maybe staying with RB is the way.

A De La Rosa/Wurz team the first year could be assume. The two best testers of this decade basically being given free reign to race/test the first season? Hello Super Aguri-style team. :mamoru:

All you'se guys bitching about a lack of US drivers is missing the obvious: We can start and email campaign to get them to sign Sato. :mamoru:

Needs more loveable, Kamikaze-style Japanese driver to be the next Super Aguri, lol. And I don't mean Kaz :mamoru:

Honestly, we should see what we can do about starting a real email campaign. If we can get the hardcore F1 fans in the US to voice a desire for Sato, he'd likely get looked at. We're the ones that will make up the base of the USF1 support, they can't afford to stiff us.

Online petitions are garbage.

We need a spam bot for their email. :x

LeSeb was also old and apparently unable to adapt to new things. Oh, and supposedly miserable to work with at pretty much all times.

Speed wasn't bad, honestly. But when he was at STR they had garbage cars. I'm not saying he could have matched SebVet, but he was always comparable, if not ahead, of Liuzzi.

I think out of all of the drivers not currently racing, Sato is by far this forum's favorite.

He, along with Davidson, Sutil, Albers and Winkelhock were cool enough to sign my F1 program in '06, along with Windsor, Matchett, Varsha and Hobbs..

My goal for the day was to get an autograph from Sato tho, just because it had only been a few months after the amazing pass at Montreal...

Just think about it, he competed w/ Le Seb for that seat at STR. How things would have been so different had he gotten the seat instead of keeping it Team Seb

They have Mike Gascoyne so they are doing something right. I read Manor arent even doing any windtunnel work and it will be 100% CFD  USF1 might not even make it and I dunno about Campos but they will probably be gay too
