They have Mike Gascoyne so they are doing something right. I read Manor arent even doing any windtunnel work and it will be 100% CFD  USF1 might not even make it and I dunno about Campos but they will probably be gay too

well we need some backmarker teams...
I mean look at this year... the most consistent back marker team is STR... everyone else has been all over the place... everyone except Brawn has been a backmarker at some point during this season... then 1 race later they are on the podium... what other season has been like that?

before you could count on Honda/Toyota/Spyker/Force India/STR to be somewhere in the back all the time... not this season...

I thought that guy was a reported dick to work with, and hasn't really been on a big, successful team in years.

I dunno he seems to be one of those guys that gets shit done  he got sacked from Toyota because Howett paid him too much and they changed tyres in 06 from Michelin to Bridgestone after the car was already designed because Toyota is run by retards and they didnt realise what an effect this would have (they changed because of the change to their roadcars default tyres). Not surprisingly the 06 car bombed and who took the blame

I'm with Nacho. He has been sacked by a LOT of teams... (referring to his stint after Toyota, before Force India...)

No more hubcaps. Are double diffusers going away as well??

F1 teams have agreed to ban wheel fairings for next season, Auto Motor und Sport claims.

We reported earlier this year that the devices, having first emerged last year, were likely to be banned for 2010 because they make it even harder for following cars to overtake.

Williams' technical chief Sam Michael said in July that studies have shown that the covers have "quite an adverse effect on the following car".

However, the Australian warned that banning the covers will not be a silver bullet.

"It is the sort of thing where you need to find three or four little things like that and that will add up to a difference," Michael added, "so I think it is going in the right direction but it just needs more."

get rid of wheel farings, limit front wing # of elements to 2 and get rid of double/triple/quadruple diffusers.. that ought to have some effect.

Senna convinced he'll be in F1 next year

By Jonathan Noble and Pablo Elizalde Thursday, October 8th 2009, 09:54 GMT

Bruno Senna is confident he will be racing in Formula 1 next season after missing out on a deal to race with the Brawn team in 2009.

Last year's GP2 runner-up came very close to a deal with the former Honda team, but in the end the Brackley-based squad decided to retain Rubens Barrichello alongside Jenson Button.

Senna, the nephew of three-time world champion Ayrton, has spent the season racing in the Le Mans Series as he continued working towards an F1 deal for 2010.

And the Brazilian, speaking to reporters at the new Abu Dhabi circuit, said he is now almost sure he will be on the grid next year.

"Pretty high, in the 90s [per cent]," Senna said about his chances of being in F1 next year. "I'm happy about it. It's been a very tough year. Sometimes I found myself feeling a bit far away from F1. But we were slowly trying to get back into it.

"Obviously the beginning of the year was very tough because people were only talking about double diffusers and regulations, so it's been really hard to actually have good contact with the teams, because they have been really having some difficult worries about other things other than drivers.

"But eventually you get in touch, see what the real options were, and we focused on these options and here we are, quite close to getting a deal."

He added: "It's looking pretty good actually. We have some good offers on the table, and this is what we needed really. I think Formula 1 is in a tough moment, with many drivers on the market and that doesn't make it easy for drivers outside of Formula 1 to get it. But luckily with the new teams there are more slots. It's getting close."

When asked when he was hoping to be able to announce something, he said: "I really hope by Interlagos."

Senna admitted it was tough to be so close to the deal last year and eventually don't get it.

"It was frustrating not to get the drive, especially because I was quite close to it, but that's motor racing, you have to learn how to deal with difficult times and there are plenty of them in your career," he said.

"I just kept my head up and just try to work on another deal for 2010, and that's what we are doing."

Despite that, the Brazilian reckons the Le Mans Series experience will be useful for Formula 1 next year, especially as refuelling will be banned.

"I did the Le Mans Series with good success: in three races I got two podiums, which is not bad for a rookie year. I was really trying to get some different experience and it actually counted very much. Now I know how to save fuel, save tyres, and it's going to be important for next year.

"Fuel consumption is going to be an issue and for sure it's a good preparation. But the best preparation would be to be in Formula 1 definitely."

Senna revealed he was in talks with two of Formula 1's new teams, but admitted he would prefer to race with an outfit with F1 experiences.

"Campos and Virgin [Manor] are top of the list I think of the new teams. So we are talking to them, but it's still a bit early to say anything," he said.

"If the proposal is right, I would prefer to be in a team that's currently there. It's a much less risky option. There are many variables in a new team coming into Formula 1, but in any case I need to be able to trust the team can do a good job and show my potential next year."

He also said the Force India team was also a possibility.

"We are still talking to them, but we have to wait and see. They have quite a few situations, so they need to sort their lives out because we can negotiate that."

Senna will return to single-seater action today at Jerez, where he joins the iSport GP2 team to help with development, a test he also says will help him re-acclimatise himself to open-wheel cars.

"First, I need to get back into single-seaters. I haven't driven a single-seater since November last year and that's a long time. And secondly, iSport wanted me to go there and help with development.

"They were a bit off the pace this year and they want to know if it's car bound or driver bound, and I hope I can prove that it was driver bound."

So it looks like Nico Rosberg got his lucky helmet jacked at the hotel in Interlagos. He's offering a paddock club pass to anyone that returns it.

I'm not sure the racing would get any better....

Everyone car without a DD (save the RBR) was an oversteering mess at the start of the year. Going through corners with opposite lock also makes it hard to overtake.

Felipe Massa will be the man in charge of waving the chequered flag at the Brazilian Grand Prix next month, organisers have said.

The Ferrari driver has been out of action since his accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix two months ago, and he will miss his home race as he continues with his recovery.

Massa will get a small consolation at the Interlagos race, however, and he will be waving the flag after Ferrari confirmed it had accepted the invitaion from the organisers.

I thought wheel fairings were first seen in 2006? the Ferrari had them on the rear wheels. Or do they only count the ones at the front?

FIA impressed by US F1's progress

[i]By Pablo Elizalde Thursday, October 8th 2009, 16:01 GMT[i]

US F1 factoryThe FIA has been impressed by the work carried out by the US F1 team ahead of its debut season in 2010.

An FIA representative visited the team's factory in Charlotte in August and again earlier this week and said the American squad is progressing very well.

"I personally visited the US F1 Team in August as well as this week, and I am impressed with the progress made by the organization since the Concorde Agreement was signed in late July," Nick Craw, the FIA's deputy president for sport, told Autoweek.

"It has all come together very quickly for the team, and we welcome them into Formula 1 competition in 2010."

Team boss Ken Anderson said he was proud with what the team has achieved so far.

"We have had an open dialogue with the FIA since the team's inception in 2008, and we welcome their visits to the United States," said Anderson.

"We are proud to show them that, despite what is currently circulating in the rumor mill, our Charlotte shop is fully operational and we are well under way to construction of a unique U.S.-designed Formula 1 race car."

The team's first car is already being built at its factory and is expected to be ready to run in January.

Takuma Sato says he is determined to return to racing in 2010 - and that he will only look at options beyond Formula 1 when all hopes of a grand prix drive have been exhausted.

The Japanese driver has not raced since his Super Aguri team folded before the 2008 Turkish Grand Prix, and he missed out on a Toro Rosso seat for this year after a winter testing shoot-out with Sebastien Buemi and Sebastien Bourdais.

Sato has attended several IndyCar races and been linked to a seat with Gil de Ferran's planned team. But he said a switch to American racing was very much a second choice and he was actively seeking an F1 drive first.

"I went to the Indy 500 too and there is some opportunity [in IndyCar] but I always want to be at the highest level and that's the objective," Sato told AUTOSPORT.

"To me, F1 is an unfinished job so I want to get back in and just have a competitive package to drive, because now I have the experience, I have the speed. I really hope I can do it.

"This weekend for me was painful. To come to Suzuka, where I have a lot of memories, but not racing is not an easy moment."

He said he was chasing opportunities with both the new teams entering F1 next year and established squads.

"We are just communicating," said Sato. "As you know now in F1, in business and everything, it's quite difficult to predict. Of course new teams are coming, which is a great opportunity for me, and of course the current teams too.

"So we are just communicating with everybody really and trying to find any possibility, not only for F1."

Sato admitted that if he could not get an F1 seat then he would definitely accept a drive elsewhere rather than spending another year on the sidelines.

"I have to have some kind of option for next year because one and a half years out of racing is just too long and to me it's the limit." he said.

"If it was only half a season [without racing] then concentrating on F1 is fine. That was the case last year: we did the winter testing and it went perfectly and it didn't happen. That was a very unfortunate moment but I will never give up.

"I'm just attacking every single door and if that opens the doors for next year I will be very, very happy."

SATTOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Bernie Ecclestone has hinted that a novel approach to reducing testing costs will be adopted by Formula One in the near future.

This year's in-season testing ban has been controversial, not because the teams have struggled to develop their cars, but because it has all but ended the test-driver era as well as made it difficult for newcomers to enter the sport.

"I am sure that in the future we will test on the Monday after races," the F1 chief executive said in an interview with Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.

"The cars are already there, the people as well. The costs will be kept within limits and we can give young drivers a chance.

"The failure of the current system is that it is virtually impossible to test young drivers," Ecclestone explained.
"That protects the established drivers, but it is absolutely wrong."

It had been suggested several months ago that the usual Friday practice sessions could become testing sessions instead. Ecclestone's plan moves that to Mondays, leaving the Friday practice sessions with their habitual role of setting up the cars for qualifying and race day.

hold the fucking phone, Bernie with a good idea that isnt batshit insane?

That emo 'someone stole my helmet' Rosberg thing is just a viral competition to give away race tickets and promote Philips technology..

The helmet is supposedly (according to the story that the helmet was stolen) fixed with a helmet cam, that the Philips guys were able to "remotely enable", and now the live feed of the helmet being driven around Sao Paulo is on the webs for the people to find. http://www.sigaocapacete.com.br/
