Show me another driver that does something like this...does Kimi even say "great job guys" to his team after a win? :mamoru: But I'm sure you guys will find ways to hate on him for this too. ;)

Lewis Hamilton paid tribute to the efforts of the team back at the McLaren factory after his sensational Monaco win by presenting around 700 team personnel with the squad's red 'victory' T-shirts.

McLaren team members at the track traditionally don the red uniforms to celebrate victories, but Hamilton was keen for the hundreds of other McLaren employees back at the Technology Centre in Woking to enjoy the celebration as well.

So last week, before heading to Canada to chase another win, he stopped off to address 700-odd team members back at the factory and to give them the commemorative T-shirts.

"Winning at Monaco was a fantastic feeling and a real team effort," Lewis told the team.

"So I wanted to personally thank each and every one of you, because I'm very conscious that it's not only the race team – in other words the guys who go to the races – who make our wins possible, but also the hundreds of you back here at the McLaren Technology Centre, working every bit as hard as your colleagues in the race team.

"So thank you. Thank you so much.

"I know how hard you're working – and I really, really appreciate it.

"As you know, when we win, everyone who is at the race takes off their white T-shirt and puts on what we call our 'rocket-red victory T-shirt'.

"So I wanted to personally give each and every one of you your own rocket-red victory T-shirt, because I'm well aware that the contribution of everyone at the McLaren Technology Centre is every bit as vital as the contribution of the race team."

The presentation triggered a rush for copies of the special red T-shirts amongst McLaren's fans.

"Word is spreading on the internet that Lewis is really into his rocket-red victory T-shirts – and, as a result, they're selling like hot cakes at the moment," reported McLaren Group's head of communications and public relations Matt Bishop.

"Ever since he won so brilliantly at Monaco, and then came in to the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking to give a rocket-red victory T-shirt to every McLaren Racing employee, our merchandising guys tell me that the phones have been ringing off the hooks and that the McLaren e-shop website has been buzzing like crazy

schumacher was always the guy who would go to the fence after parking the car in parc ferme and hugging/shaking hands with each and every mechanic that was there. you dont really see too many drivers doing that.

Not only that, didn't he give watches out one Christmas to all of Scrudia Ferrari to thank them?

dunno about that, but an excerpt from one of his many biographies.

No Ferrari driver has worked harder for the team, nor has any been more appreciated than the man who has led the team to six successive Constructors' Championships. He leads by example, frequently visiting the factory at Maranello, talking to the personnel, thanking them, encouraging them, never criticising and inspiring everyone with his optimism, high energy level and huge work ethic. The team is devoted to the driver who often says he "loves" the Ferrari "family."

Yep, I remember reading in F1 Racing that he'd know mechanics' family members by name that didn't even travel with the team, and would phone and ask how they were doing if he found out that they were sick or hurt. :mamoru:

Not many drivers like this at all in the world, where they're too self-absorbed to care about anything else other than personal glory. Me thinks Hamilton has taken a page from Schumi's bio...

I'm trying to come up with some hammy hate on this....and can't

I think we like kimi, not because he's super classy/sportsman guy, but because he's a throwback hard drinking womanizing f1 driver who doesn't need to live like a robot to be quick

And schumi did treat his team super well, he still wasn't a terribly sporting driver in the middle of a battle for WDC.

That's pretty cool.

He spent a bunch of time thanking the team in the post-race interview as well, but people still said he was smug. ;)

In the middle of his career, yes. But towards the end, it seemed like he'd matured a bit.

One of the images of Schumi that sticks with me was the Japan GP after his car blew up. When he got back to the garage, it seemed like he was consoling the team more than the other way around. He didn't storm off and get mad and disappear into the trailer, he was in the garage shaking hands and whatnot with every person there.

Pretty hardcore given that he'd essentially just lost going out on his last season as WDC.

:werd:

That's how I feel about Kimi and suspect that's why most of F1 crew has a man-crush on him :eek3:

But things like this from Hamilton makes me like the guy. He's apperciative of what the team has given him, and gives back as well. I mean, working at McLaren I know that not everyone feels like they have a role in the team winning races I'm sure, but to have your star driver do this for everyone back home...it makes you feel involved, and really part of a family, a'la Shumi. That's real 'teamwork.' That's class.

I guess I really just don't see why everyone calls him smug :run:

McLaren keep fifth slot in the pitlane

By Jonathan Noble
Thursday, June 5th 2008, 17:36 GMT

McLaren have again been handed the fifth slot in the pitlane for the Canadian Grand Prix, after being moved away from the final position in Monaco two weeks ago.

The Woking-based team were relegated to the last garage in Bahrain in April after Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone reacted to alleged complaints from rival outfits about McLaren being situated between Williams and Red Bull Racing.

However, for unspecified reasons, in Monaco the team were moved back to the position they held for the first two races. Ecclestone even half-joked at the time that it was 'a mistake'.

Now, however, it appears that McLaren may well remain in the middle of the pitlane order for the rest of the season after keeping their fifth slot for this weekend's race in Canada.

honestly i dont give a shit if they are at the end or in the middle, but for fuck sake have some damn consistency... this is why the FIA is so FTL, if your rules are subject to personal opinion then its no wonder people will think that they are being mistreated.

I thought it had to do with the fact that the newest tracks had similar facilities for all the garages so the order didn't mean much, while the older tracks had skimpy facilities down the pit lane, where all McMerc's gear physically wouldn't fit.

I think they should just stick to being at the last garage on the pitlane. they got 0 points, move to the end, and stay there... done... any of the lower teams would've got the same ruling, just stick by it or
don't have rules like that at all...

If that isnt favoritism I dont know what is. Mclarens shit doesnt fit there but the little teams learn how to squeeze their shit in. Even if Mclaren had more shit to store than the smaller teams they should work around it - thats why it was called a penalty. Fuck Bernie Eccelstone
