Did anyone think RBR would finish 2nd at the beginning of this year?

Well, they do have Adrian Newey...

i think his best bet is RBR personally, but with webber and vettel both doing pretty well, it may not be an option. if toyota can build a decent car, kimi can drive it fast... hell, if anyone can build a decent car, he will be fast.

Not true :hs:

Massa beat him nicely last year and was a good match for Kimi this year too...

Massa is fast out of hard work and dedication. As fast as Kimi is naturally, it's hard to beat work & dedication. So Kimi needs a team like McLaren to focus him and make him fast. A "laid-back" team like RBR and Kimi will just degrade even further :werd: Look at Ferrari...let him do whatever he wanted...

Was it the environment at ferrari that changed Kimi, or just winning a WDC and being worth 9 figures all of a sudden? Hard to differentiate.

The rumor is he is refusing to sign any contract that requires sponsor promotional duties. Pretty douchey if that is true.

They mentioned that on Speed.

The contract with McMerc supposedly wanted like 10-12 days a year for sponsors. Dude, look at your paycheck. You can give the people that get you that much money to play race car a few days a year.

Valentino Rossi says he does not want to clinch the title just by settling for points and insists he will try to win the Malaysian Grand Prix.
....

"Even if he wins I can finish fourth, but that's not what I want, so we need an aggressive approach. Missing the podium is no way to win a title.

"There are two races left, I have 270 points and it would be nice to pass the 300 mark: if you do it, then it means you've been very good."

reason #176411 to like Rossi

But if they give him the coin, I'm sure he'll go, I just don't see that working out in his whole wanting to be at a championchip contending team...

Sounds like someones taking career advice from JV.

If Red Bull get merc engines next year, they could be unstoppable. Assuming they arent forcibly detuned. I wouldn't mind Kimi there. Only problem is I really like Webber. Where does he go, Torro Rosso?? Heiki can suck it, he has no consistency.

And who the fuck is going to be driving for Team America? de la Rosa/Wurz super geezer team here weee gooooooo

Except he won that year only b/c McMerc had so much in-fighting between Alonso & Hamilton, and he didn't absoutley stamp out Massa like everyone suspected he would at the beginning of the year. He used to require no help from anyone to make the cars fast and would always give a good run for the WDC at McLaren. That wasn't so true once he arrived at Ferrari and it has been downhill since

you like Kimi because he's not a corporate kiss ass. Back in the day drivers didn't have to sell their fucking souls to sponsors/manu people. They were lucky to be along for the ride. Not the other way round!

Back in the day, the drivers weren't getting 50mil/yr either.

I'd not count Vettel as a corporate kiss-ass either, but he's still giving RBR the time to do things like the voiceovers on their videos and whatnot. There's a difference in being a corporate kiss-ass and being a selfish child.

If they're dropping anything over double figure millions on you, you can do 2 weeks worth of promo...

I liked Kimi b/c he partied hard, drove fast, and didn't complain. Right now, he's being kind of douche (if true...), gets paid a lot for not going all that fast...I mean, you got dropped by Ferrari man!

Who makes 50 mil a year from one sponsor? Nobody on the grid even makes that from a team.

Look at Brawn, Honda couldn't get DICK for sponsors so they painted their Earth cars. Same team, same drivers, and in Melbourne sponsors were popping up out of the wood work. The sport has enough sponsor duties to be performed, I think Kimi is just trying to fight it back down a bit. He's not saying he won't rep the sponsors, only that he doesn't want to be flying all over the globe year round on off weeks to do stupid sponsor events that he's not really suited to anyway. If he wants to beat back the bullshit good.

So wait, some sponsors/teams paid him, and now he doesn't need the money, and he's a douche for not wanting to do lame-ass sponsor duty? We're not talking about video voice overs and photoshoots in the pitlane.

Where's the "not need money" come from? I'm sure whatever team he gets, part of it will be financially driven. I think Toy's management said Kimi's management is asking for more...

Kimi. Kimi clearly has enough money to not scramble for sponsor money. And he's a good enough driver to be paid, and not have to bring money with him to get a seat. Why should he be forced into these sponsor days, if he can negotiate around it? You guys think its about just "suck it up and do it for the team", but its not for the team, its for the sponsors. Can you really hate on the guy for not wanting to waste his time hawking wares?

Toyota is like the Washington Redskins of F1, big name, and everyone knows you just go there to get paid. Of course he asked for more money.

Sponsors are the only reason this whole thing exists...if he wants to completely check out from the commercial aspect the sport, he can go back to finalnd and race 300$ volvos.

Furthermore, if he'd just clinched his 3rd straight WDC and was trying to renegotiate/get a new deal elsewhere, he'd might actually be entitled to this sort of request.

But, we are all shitting on the man over a rumor, maybe we should wait and see.

I'm sure he's not willing to work for peanuts in his next seat.

If he really only cared about racing, he'd do what it took to be in a top team. From the sounds of it, he's wanting maximum money for minimum work. And yes, being a top-tier racing driver includes a LOT of work for your sponsors. It takes money to go racing, and you get that from the sponsors and fans. Go to an ALMS or Speed Cup race and you'll see the drivers taking all kinds of time out for the fans and plugging the sponsors left and right.
