Same kinda shit was on start sports "Oh lewis' race is ruined. Blame BE for it. What kind of rule is this to stop in the pit lane?"

my friend who watched FOX was saying the same thing.

i didn't really have an explanation for it. what exactly is the reason for the red light there? is it to force the pitting drivers to enter behind the train of cars following the safety car?

i believe so. otherwise you have drivers that get out just ahead of the SC and then they're at racing speed for over an entire lap trying to get back to the train, effectively defeating the purpose of having the SC out in the first place.

for hamilton the penalty is just. i don't know about rosberg though...he was just cruising behind hami and probably couldn't see the stopped cars ahead and was just watching the back of the mclaren.

I'd say it's just for both since no matter, you've gotta be aware of your surroundings. It's a primary function of a race car driver, and more importantly, to make the correct decision in that small window...he and nico clearly made the wrong one...

According to the French language La Presse newspaper, Rosberg said: "I think I deserve the penalty, the same as Hamilton. He didn't stop, and neither did I, so we deserve the same fate. I saw the red lights too late, so it is natural that there is a penalty. I made a mistake," Rosberg added.

"In my whole career I have never watched the lights at the pit exit," Roseberg is quoted as admitting to motorline.cc.

I think it just proves that the red lights being on is HIGHLY unusual.

I still don't see the point of them.

nobody questioned the rule when fisi and massa got DSQ'd last year...

and in that case it was even more 'unusual' given the FIA admitted that the light was 'incorrectly red' at the time.

well considering in the past 2 years, we've had a bunch of red light runners, at this point, i don't think it's "unusual" anymore. it's not that hard to just look up and check to make sure that light isn't red, i'm sure all the F1 drivers have driven on a public road before, so they know to look for red/green lights at an intersection, yes i know it's racing, but if there is a safety car out, just look up at the end of the pit... rocket science it's not.

and i do see the point of them, it's been brought up already, when the safety car is dispatched, everyone is supposed to bunch up behind it, if there was no light at the end of the pit to stop people, you'd have people going around again at high speeds, thus defeating the safety aspect of the safety car...

Yeah and I also think the red light is on for so long because for once when you are coming out of the pits you are at an advantage and what would happen if you were racing out of the pits into the middle of the field - where would you be able to slot in? Sounds like a massive grey area expanded by the ridiculous "no pitstops when safety car is out" rule. Also I watched the video of Hamilton sodomising Kimi and if Hamilton wasnt there Rosbergs accident would have been about the same with Kimi, he only just hit Hamilton for the fact that Hamiltons speed pushed him past the line

I really do hope they implement a "safety car rev/speed limit" much how they have the pit lane limiter. have the pits radio the drivers and just press a button then come around, pit if you have to.

That's true, it shows so much more maturity on Rosberg's part. I'm really glad Rosberg is with Williams, coz he steady rise will make him an awesome WDC (one day). Unlike Hamilton who's instant fame has obviously gone to his head. I would laugh so hard if he wins (almost) the WDC again this yr.

Hamilton says there is no stopping him :(

By Jonathan Noble and Pablo Elizalde Tuesday, June 10th 2008, 08:57 GMT

Lewis HamiltonLewis Hamilton says "nothing can stop" his McLaren team this season, the Briton claiming he has already put his Canadian Grand Prix blunder behind.

The McLaren driver lost the championship lead to BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica in Montreal, after he crashed into the back of Kimi Raikkonen after failing to see the red light at the end of the pitlane in time.

Hamilton will also start the French Grand Prix on the back foot after receiving a ten-place grid penalty for the incident.

But the Briton, who was running strongly in the race before the crash, says the accident will not affect him, and he reckons that nothing can stop him now.

"This will make no difference," said Hamilton of the accident. "I t hasn't knocked me confidence-wise. I'm not gutted or disappointed.

"Going forward the mood is strong. The fact is we destroyed everyone this weekend. With the car we have right now there is no stopping us.

"It is not going to take me a day to recover or anything. I'll be up first thing training and really looking forward to Magny-Cours. You can't win them all.

Hamilton labeled the rule that cost him the crash and the penalty as "silly".

"We are baffled how it came to that in the space of 30 seconds," he said. "They fuelled me longer I had two guys in front of me and suddenly they have stopped as I have looked at the red light.

"Personally I think the rule is silly. We are in the race, how can you see a red light at the end of the pitlane? But that's the rule and I accept it."

But the 21-year-old admitted that starting from the middle of the pack in France will give him added motivation.

"I start ten places back in the next race. It's a bit harsh really. I didn't aim to ruin anyone's race. I've already lost everything. This makes me stronger. I can't wait for Magny-Cours."

That's a bit :o of him :hs: Altho, you don't really expect him to cry about it, but the rest of it (ie: "we destroyed everyone") is a bit hard to digest. :hs: I think I'm in for Massa taking his name at the end of the season :run:

hamiltons version of "I can't stop this feeling(car) I've got" originally written and performed by Razorlight

i can't stop this car I've got,
i know who i am and i know what im not
i know where ive been and i know what ive lost
but i cant stop this car ive got
wasnt looking ahead and i crashed
I didnt see, i didnt learn...

will have to see about getting the rest of the lyrics :o

Jesus must be getting mighty strong this season:

Lewis Hamilton insists that falling foul of the usually rapturous British media contingent after bumping out of the Canadian Grand Prix will not dent his confidence ahead of the next race.

The McLaren driver will be demoted ten positions on the Magny Cours grid next weekend for ignoring a pitlane traffic light at Montreal and smashing into Kimi Raikkonen's duly stationary Ferrari.

But despite the crash, his lost championship lead, the French GP setback, and the widespread criticism of his rookie error, 23-year-old Hamilton insists that the chapter 'will make no difference' to his mindset.

"It hasn't knocked me confidence-wise. I'm not gutted or disappointed," British newspapers quote him as saying this week.

"You can't win them all. Going forward the mood is strong. The fact is we destroyed everyone (in Canada). With the car we have right now there is no stopping us.

"This makes me stronger. I can't wait for Magny Cours.
"

McLaren's Finnish team doctor, Aki Hintsa, insists that Hamilton's show of confidence after the Canadian mishap is not empty rhetoric.

"We have sophisticated ways of measuring these things and I can tell you Lewis has improved physically and mentally since the start of the season," he told British reporters.

"His statistics are very impressive and from those I can tell you this will not affect him one little bit," Hintsa added.

Ove Andersson killed in rally crash

By Pablo Elizalde Wednesday, June 11th 2008, 10:54 GMT

Former Toyota team principal Ove Andersson was killed on Wednesday in an accident during a classic rally in South Africa.

The Swede, who managed Toyota's European motorsport arm for over 30 years, is believed to have been involved in a head-on collision with a truck during the Milligan classic rally.

Andersson oversaw Toyota's Formula One programme when the Japanese manufacturer made its grand prix racing debut in 2002.

He left his role as team principal in 2003, becoming an advisor to the team.

Andersson was 70.

what sort of shitty organized rally puts you in the danger of a head-on collision with a truck?!?
