It's a shame that so many can no longer seperate great racing from sponorship. Do you really think Having Kimi sign hats and shake hands and give speeches is going to give them a better return on their money? The name on the car is what they pay for, it gives them much more exposure and return money (for profit or not for the team) than a driver appearance at a corporate function ever will.

Those of you who think racing teams should be determined by sponsor wants  That is not the way things should go.

Not should be determined by what a sponsor wants, damn well is determined by what a sponsor wants.

You bet your fucking ass Alonso is going to be at the Santander Christmas party shaking board member's hands for the kind of coin they are shelling out.

I know from personal experience that Bearing Point consulting trots out Phil Mickelson on a monthly basis. Hyundai considering us to consult on a multi-billion dollar factory in Alabama? How 'bout we fly Phil out to Seoul for a round of golf with key executives.

Does anyone else think the Kimi to Mclaren move if its happening is delayed because Kimi needs Mclaren a lot more than they need him and his management hasn't realised this yet? John Howetts comments on BBC were pretty telling when he said that Kimi's managers asked for more money, but Toyota said they told them that their offer was reasonable. If Toyota isnt willing to shell out for Kimi then is Macca? Considering they actually have a WDC on their roster already, unlike Toyota who seem to have diddly squat for drivers atm.

You have to factor in Toyota's budget issues. They might have 25 mill approved from Toyota City, that's it...25 mill to Kimi plus Kobayashi for peanuts.

Having Kimi wear a watch for an ad, having Kimi in a commercial, etc. will all give more exposure for their brand/$ than a tiny name on the side of the car.

And again, it's TWELVE DAYS A YEAR. That's fucking nothing when it's in exchange for MILLIONS of dollars. There's a FUCKTON of people in lower series that do a lot more work for alot less pay and don't bitch about it. That's part of the work that goes into racing professionally. And unless you're independently wealthy to the point of being able to pay to race out of pocket, it's part of the game.

The funny part about that ad, is that Kimi seems to genuinely not know what a photocopier is, haha

It's not the side of the sponsor, it's just reality...which makes this rumor all the more baffling.

If you're a famous actor you have to sit through press junkets; if you're an astronaut you have to talk to 5th grade science classes; if you're a fireman you have to cut fat people out of their house. Like all things, there is good and bad...dude just has to deal with the promo days in order to get the cool track days.

I'm going to go see James Lovell (commander of Apollo 13) speak in an hour..

NASCAR race-winner Kyle Busch has been singled out as a key target of the new Team US F1 outfit, as it continues its preparations to enter grand prix racing in 2010.

Although US F1 is unlikely to field an American driver for its debut campaign, as AUTOSPORT reported last month, the team is keen to get a home-grown driver in for 2011.

And sporting director Peter Windsor has said that Busch is high on his list of contenders for 2011 - and would like him to test the car next year.

Speaking to USA Today, Windsor said: "If he wanted to drive for us in 2011, we'd certainly be keen on that.

"I think there'll be a lot of speculation about that as time goes on. If I was Kyle, I'd be saying to myself, yeah, those guys all talk the talk, let's see what they do, let's see what the car's like.

"Let's see what the race shop is like. Fair enough. We're going to do a good job. I know when Kyle gets to see it, I'm pretty sure it'll get his pulse rate going."

He added: "I've watched him a lot and have massive respect for him. I know people who know him very well. I believe Kyle can win a world championship in Formula 1. I think he's got exactly the right talent, the right approach. I'd love to see him in a Formula 1 car.

"If he wants to jump in our car next year for doing some demonstrations here in the States, he's very welcome to do that."

Windsor has revealed that he has already met with Busch's business team, and he is well aware that the American driver's contract with Joe Gibbs Racing expires at the end of next season.

Busch himself said earlier this year that he would not totally rule out a switch to F1, providing he achieved title success in NASCAR.

"It's definitely something I wouldn't shoot down," he was quoted as saying shortly after the official launch of US F1. "If I could win a championship (in NASCAR) in the next two or three years then I wouldn't mind going doing (F1) for a few years and coming back.

"I think I'd still be young enough that if I could win a championship by 25, go run Formula 1 for a few years and be back (in NASCAR) by 28."

so US F1 is looking to hire a driver for the 2010 season and then let him go? how are they going to develop the thing if they get a new driver after their first season?

Has anyone emailed USF1 about Sato yet? I still need to do that...

I've now seen the two of the three most famous living astronauts (Armstrong, Aldrin and Lovell) speak in person.
