Mercedes asking FIA for help to slow down Red Bull

Wasn't Wolff the one always harping on about not changing the rules to even out the field and the whole "win on merit" argument? Now he's squabbling over 0.3s in a pitstop? Low...

Kinda crazy that Honda always seems to stop the sport at their peak.

They came from nowhere with Mclaren to be the first team to beat MB in the modern hybrid era 4 races in a row.

Stopping F1 really has less to do with their success/non-success in F1 and more with the global economics of the auto industry and weathering an automotive recession. Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari are naturally going to be less sensitive to a recession given their positioning in the market. I'm actually more surprised that Renault is doubling down.

Never thought I'd see the day that MB wasn't on the front row. Wow.

And a Macca being one of the cars to do it.  Let's hope it holds up tomorrow.

Lando could’ve been P2 if it wasn’t for the penalties they were handing out like candy on Halloween.
pretty impressive even with the 5 seconds he still passed Lewis and was on Bottas tail.

I think after the first (which wasn't a penalty) one they had no chance but to keep handing them out for consistency sake. None of those should have penalties for Lando and 2x Checo.

I'm gonna say that if one of them was going to be a penalty, it was the 2nd one by Checo bc LeClerc was ahead of Checo at that point...the prior 2 were not penalties simply bc the passing car was not ahead of the car in front.

Damn, that's pretty cool.  Imagine the 3 way fight we could have with NOR, VER, and RUS all in competitive rides!

That was hugely enjoyable.  Fun trying to figure out what's line vs. aero vs. power as the cars are jockeying :yum:

Pretty cool YouTube channel. FOM needs to work w this channel and release videos like this. The Honda/RBR seems to have really good low end grunt whereas the McLaren gains in the middle of the straights. Tbh this does not correlate with Wolff's whining that the Honda PU has more overall power or that the RBR flexi rear wing is somehow faster on a straight.

Really enjoyable videos.

Can't imagine how much work they must be to produce - supposedly done manually by comparing onboards frame by frame or something

If you have the GPS data it is pretty automatic (hence suggestion that FOM should work with this guy). They should just use the rendering engine from F1 2021 and do the whole lap virtual.

My takeaway from this weekend:

I really like the Sprint Quali and hope they continue doing that...

51/49 on LH being at fault.  He was never really side by side, missed the apex and took Max out heavily.  Max was entitled to the apex because he was ahead.  10 sec penalty wasn't enough in my books and I don't like Max either.  But I'm glad he's okay.

I think this is the closest I've seen Hamilton's come to doing anything "dirty". Don't really blame him for going for the gap, even though it didn't look like he could have left a car's width at the corner exit.

The penalty was too lenient though.

Sprint: they need to change up the weekend... FP1 and FP2 on Friday, Quali and Sprint on Saturday, Warmup and Race on Sunday

Max/Lewis: I think Lewis felt the pressure because how Max did in the Sprint Race and then he was in front of his home fans at a packed track... as stated above, he couldn't have made that turn... his fault.

A couple of takeaways from that incident:
1) The tecpro barrier on the far side of the gravel trap needs to be extended by at least 50m. This was luckily not a much worse result, not sure how they decide how far the tecpro extends, but they were clearly wrong
2) It looked like Lewis never had the position so it was his responsibility to avoid an accident. No faulting him for going for a gap when it was there, but if you don't have the position yet you can't argue about being penalized for causing an accident
3) The 10s time penalty really sends the wrong message to up and coming drivers in F2/F3 and junior categories. This was a pretty dangerous shunt and completely avoidable. I wonder what the paddock would be saying if Max had seriously been hurt by this incident
3) This will get sorted out in the subsequent drivers meeting when all the drivers behind closed doors will have a say and agree what is hard racing and where it crosses into endangerment

Fernado driving like he did back in the mid 2000's, Ocon FTW... literally... that damage on Max's car was crazy, amazing how he made it to the end...

Good race...
