Vettel gets grid penalty for Malaysia
By Pablo Elizalde Sunday, March 29th 2009, 10:30 GMT
Sebastian Vettel has been given a 10-place grid penalty for the Malaysian Grand Prix next weekend following his clash with Robert Kubica in Melbourne.
Vettel crashed with BMW Sauber's Kubica with three laps to go when the Pole tried to overtake him around the outside.
Both men were forced to retire later on.
The German driver's Red Bull team was also fined $50,000 for instructing Vettel to stay on track despite running on three wheels.

How can they not fine Kubica as well?
how can vettel get penalized for this 'racing incident' but barrichello plays tag with his car and gets nothing? i don't think either vettel or loobens deserves a penalty, but if they're going to slap vettel with this then they need to have some sort of consistency..

Trulli: No choice but to pass Hamilton
By Pablo Elizalde Sunday, March 29th 2009, 12:09 GMT
Jarno Trulli said he had no choice but to overtake Lewis Hamilton in the incident that cost the Italian his third place at the Australian Grand Prix.
Trulli finished in third position for Toyota, ahead of Hamilton, but the FIA stewards gave him a 25-second penalty after the race, deeming he had overtaken the McLaren driver while the safety car was on track.
The disappointed Toyota driver, who had started the race from the pitlane, claimed Hamilton left him with no choice but to overtake him.
"I can't say how disappointed I am to finish third but have the result questioned," said Trulli.
"When the safety car came out towards the end of the race Lewis Hamilton passed me but soon after he suddenly slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road.
"I thought he had a problem so I overtook him as there was nothing else I could do."
Team boss Tadashi Yamashina, whose team had already being sent to the back of the grid over a technical infringement, admitted today's penalty was very frustrating.
Yamashina was nonetheless encouraged by his team's performance.
"This is an extremely frustrating way to finish a challenging weekend," he said. "Already we were disappointed to be starting from the pitlane after we were informed yesterday about the problem with our rear wing.
"We responded to that in a fantastic way and we showed that our car has genuine performance."

So from Trulli's account, he fucked up and Hamilton passed him under the SC. Then, Hamilton slows down and pulls over, and Trulli passes him back. It sounds like perhaps the McLaren team told Hamilton to let Trulli by or something?

I think fines are in order for Vettel but a 10-place grid penalty is too much.
i was rooting for him to finish as a tripod

Brawn GP reveal heavy job losses
Debutant Australian Grand Prix winners Brawn GP are making more than a third of their staff redundant to cut costs.
Hours after Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello completed a dream one-two finish in Melbourne, chief executive Nick Fry announced the losses.
"It's very unfortunate that we've got to do that but it's the change of technical regulations and obviously we are now a private team," he said.
About 270 jobs will be lost from the team's Brackley factory in England.
We are about 700 people at the moment and we talked to the staff about going down to about 430
Brawn GP were created in the wake of Honda's withdrawal from Formula 1.
Team boss Ross Brawn sealed their survival with a management buyout in early March, ensuring most employees initially stayed to help rebuild a fresh team after the under-performing Japanese outfit pulled out of the sport because of the global financial crisis.
Since that point Brawn have been a revelation, consistently going quickest in pre-season testing before making the most successful Grand Prix debut by a team for 55 years in Melbourne on Sunday.
But Honda's estimated 2008 spend in F1 was at least £210m and Brawn GP, who announced Richard Branson's Virgin Group as their first significant sponsor on Saturday, are now operating on a far smaller budget.
"It's about 270 [job losses]," said Fry.
"We are about 700 people at the moment and we talked to the staff about going down to about 430, something like that, which is where we [predecessors BAR] were in 2004."
Max Mosley, president of motorsport's governing body the FIA, has repeatedly stressed the need for F1 teams to trim their workforce.
Additionally, F1's rules have changed this season - meaning fewer staff are needed now that testing is banned from the start of the season to the end of the year.
Brawn are also now buying in their engine from McLaren's partners Mercedes.
Fry revealed that staff at Brawn's Brackley factory in England had been informed and redundancy letters had gone out in mid-March.

Kubica takes sump oil in his ass and the F1 was fun - I'll post my pics during the week sometime
