Lewis not getting a contract would be a HUGE improvement for the sport IMHO...  We would almost be guaranteed a new WDC.

I don't think Bottas has enough to hold up against Lewis over a full season. Similar to Mark Webber v. Seb Vettel, Mark would win the occasional race, but over a full season Seb was more consistent.

Really makes you appreciate the Senna v. Prost years and why that McLaren dominance is nothing like the Ferrari 2000-2004, RBR 2010-2013 and Mercedes 2014-2020 years (maybe excluding the Rosberg chip year)

Which is why Seb not getting Bottas' seat is so incredibly disappointing.  Far fetched, sure, but what a ratings boon that could be.

There is nowhere Lewis could go that would challenge a decent driver in the Merc over 20 races.

I'd think George Russell would give him a run for his money in the same car.

I think the last time we had 2 #1 drivers in a team with McLaren in 2007 with Lewis and Alonso, and we know how that ended up... besides that it was Jenson over Ruben, Seb over Mark, Lewis over Bottas, Lewis and Rosberg were probably the most matched, but it really wasn't "close" even though Rosberg did win the title once. He had a good year...

This.  But it was fascinating entertainment for everyone outside of McLaren :mamoru:, and I'm sure Kimi didn't mind.

Sadly, I think merc is so far out in front that a second tier team wouldn't be able to eke out the drivers chip.  I mean, maybe, but merc would have to senna-prost at 5ish GPs.

You get the feeling that everytime there is a lot of press about f1 being boring and regulations needing to be changed to get the competition back, they just turn then engine back to 8 for a race or two (and make it close). I'd bet there are weekends when they are probably able to win without pushing the components to the limits whereas everyone behind is giving it the full beans just trying to keep up.

For sure. I mean Lewis at times basically lapped 75% of the field in the dry.

And we saw what Russel was able to do on his first weekend even with the pit stop mistakes, he was yoyoing through the field no problem.

But then I guess it begs the question, what is it about Valteri that stops him from dicing his way through the field and taking advantage of that performance delta over the competition? It's a similar issue that Massa had IMO, when he was out front he was as fast as anyone else, but he struggled to make passes and therefore kept getting stuck in trains if he wasn't out front at the start.

I also blame my stint at Ferrari for my baldness, not my shitty Northern European genes.

So finally Hamilton and Mercedes came to an agreement. I wonder how true the rumors of a "Verstappen clause" were.

When I saw the news yesterday, first thing I thought was hopefully this isn't another Nicky Hayden story....

Road biking scares the shit out of me.  I lost a professor in college to a Hayden-style accident and see spandex rangers up and down the Oakland hills pretty much every day.  They're literally a changed radio station or spilled coffee away from getting flung into a tree bank with every passing car.
