Racing is always going to be inherently dangerous, regardless the form. Worse for us grassroot guys if anything...

Tavo Hellmund's drawing of a potential track for a potential American GP in Bernie's kitchen 3 years before an Austin GP was announced...interesting...

They're testing front roll hoops to prevent big pieces of carbon & wheels from impacting the driver. Thoughts? Video after the jump...

Seems like that would make the forward visibility significantly worse.

Looks really unconventional. Why did they give up on developing wheel tethers?

They still have wheel tethers, but in big accidents, they don't matter as the whole side of the car comes apart.

A cool little documentary on Nic Hamilton. It's great to see how much Lewis cares for his brother too - I haven't seen many other big time stars care for their family so much.

Lewis has always seemed to have been very supportive and respective of his brother.

Interesting to see how he transitions his skills from video games to real racing. Sort of like GT Acadamey.

""I don't think we should have come here," he was quoted by Autosport. "It is not safe and wide enough. If you lose it, the walls are so close and you will smash into the tyres. It is not for Formula One and, if you lost the steering or the tyre pressure dropped or whatever, then it will be a big crash." - Petrov

Petrov needs to grow a pair. MotoGP races at Mugello! Those guys have NO protection!

I found that really odd.

Meanwhile all the teams that came voluntarily and put 100+ laps in per day are saying it was a waste

I guess when you're ahead testing is a waste of time and money

F1 leadership 101: Whinge when it's raining, whinge when it's clear; whinge when you can't test, whinge when you can. Basically a clinic in how to not appeal to American fans.

To be fair, Mugello is pretty atypical of the circuits on the calendar. It would have made more sense to hit up Paul Ricard or just go to Barcelona early.

I'm not sure why the majority of the teams agreed to go there in the first place. The only team that would have been ideal for was Ferrari, as they have their YEARS of testing on that track, and can likely convert the data easier for the rest of the calendar.
