That was a very weird quali. And yet somehow RB forgot to fill Webbers car.Worst quali session ever.
What was it, 4 drivers put in a time for Q3?

All but 3 put a proper Q3 time. Ham, Rai, Alo, Ros, Mas, Gro, Ric all went for softs and did a lap. Button cruised around on hards to set a time. Vet and Hulk only did a out lap. That was a very weird quali. And yet somehow RB forgot to fill Webbers car.

Also, Web starting P22 due to not having fuel left in the car. Bowser is not impressed.

Vettel is going to learn how much it sucks to not have an open track on lap 1. Hopefully he makes it clean through turn 1.
will be interesting to see how his relatively low straight-line speed affects his progress

I don't mind boring qualifying if the races finish like this one.

Man what a charge from Vettel at the end. If he didn't out brake himself at that turn after passing the caterham I think he would've got Lewis.
Nah. About 1/2 lap before that, those tires were going off bad. You could see him fighting oversteer/understeer all at once. Still, a helluva charge regardless of new tires or not. But those softs go off so quickly...
Among TX crew, there's a big debate about how Pirelli is "enhancing" the show. Is it artificial? Or is it real? I'd like to believe the latter b/c everyone's getting the same tires. But on the flip side, these guys are clearly managing tires now when F1 should be an outright sprint, driving to the limits. Seeing Vettel push hard like that at the end...makes me wonder if Pirelli could work on the compounds just a bit more. At the very least, get rid of the marbling so that drivers can go offline...
Regardless for me, it was a good race!

I don't think tire management is falsifying the show at all. Formula 1 has never been a japanese time attack - there's been managing of engines over a race distance when they weren't rev limited, managing of fuel consumption when refueling was prohibited, etc.
The DRS is way more gimmicky to me. At least with the tires there's multiple strategies and gambles to make - with DRS, the only strategy is stay 2 seconds ahead.

Helluva race. From the 4 car train over the first few laps to the pit rotations to the vettel charge, I was entertained basically the whole time.

those are all very valid points. I'll bring that up next time TX crew talks about this...
I'd feel much better if DRS was allowed to be used anywhere by the driver for a timed amount along, similar to KERS, I'd appreciate it more. It would definitely allow even more creative use of strategy. Having said that, twice Alonso tripped the DRS marker within a second of the first car, passed the car in front before they got to the DRS activation and was allowed DRS down the straightaway while the following car got no DRS. Either that was fantastic dumb luck or some VERY clever planning by his engineers, him or both.

looked like both times he had the speed to blow by without the DRS, he timed it to get by before the straight and then use DRS to further boost the advantage.those are all very valid points. I'll bring that up next time TX crew talks about this...
