wonder what his poker game is like...

Probably pretty bad...there's no motivation to say something like this besides trying to build a smokescreen.

2 things:
1) just adopt the motogp scoring and call it a day
2) is FOM basically Bernie and 2 lawyers? i mean basically it's his will, so why even have a team?

practically everyone would get points, defeats the purpose of getting that 1 point to secure your travel funding bonus.. i guess they'd have to change it so that you need a min of 20pts or something to qualify for the travel $.

:run:

If they acted like everything was fine people would be commenting on how dumb it was to act like everything is fine when it's not.

There's a difference between saying "We're off the pace, we need to make improvements" and "Aww, no, we're like totally fucked for the first 3 or 4 races"

since the teams are trying to get their monies and bernie is trying to keep it all, i think it should be part of the solution as well...
if you're going to over haul the points system, bring the money system with it as well...
if they don't, do your suggestion and have a minimum points requirement to earn some travel funds...

I have to admit F1 cars haven't looked this sexy (at least from this angle) in a long time! imo

I agree, even the rear wing doesn't look bad from that view!

still 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 tho :mamoru:

14-10-7-5-4-3-2-1 w/ 0.5 for fastest lap and 0.5 for pole damnit

I'm ok with the current point system because after all, the results have come down to the wire (with a little friendly help from our marshals) but a point for fast lap like gp2 is a very good idea. It gives every team the chance to scrape a point here or there as well as incentive to push especially near the end. (Kimi points) :wiggle:

Oh....what.....the......fuck

Whether it was here or back at OT, I have in the past seriously recommended a point for pole/fast lap. I believe the groups reply was "Fuck that NASCAR bullshit".

Ecclestone: New system certain for 2010

By Matt Beer Sunday, March 22nd 2009, 14:34 GMT

Bernie Ecclestone remains adamant that the 'winner takes all' championship system will be introduced in 2010, despite the change having seemingly been abandoned for this season.

Last Tuesday the FIA World Motor Sport Council voted in favour of the proposal to give the title to the driver with most race victories, which had been advocated by Ecclestone's Formula One Management organisation.

But three days later the Formula One Teams' Association issued a statement questioning the validity of the change on the grounds that any such move so close to the start of the championship must have their unanimous support. The FIA subsequently offered to defer the scoring switch.

Although this was taken as a sign that the scheme would not be implemented, Ecclestone insists it has only been postponed, and will just be put into the 2010 rules sufficiently early that the teams' consent would be unnecessary.

"It will be (introduced) next year," Ecclestone told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It will be supported by the FIA and it will be in the regulations. So when people enter the championship, that's what the regulation will be."

He is convinced that the new system will improve Formula 1's spectacle.

"It's logic - you go to the athletics and you look at the 100 metres, you're not looking at the guy that's second, you're looking at the winner," said Ecclestone. "In most sports people are looking at winners.

"To make any changes when the entries have closed you have to get the unanimous agreement of all the people that have entered. It would appear that some of the teams don't like the idea.

"The whole idea was nothing to do with winning the world championship, the idea was to make sure people raced to win in every race, not to be second or third and collect points."

He added that he also had no doubts that the FIA's budget cap rule would go ahead in 2010 either.

"It is set at £30 million, it's not (a question) of if it's going to be - it is," he said.

Ecclestone reckons the cap will lead to an influx of new entrants.

"I'm hoping we can get 26 cars, that's how it used to be," he said. "I think one of the engine manufacturers has got four orders already. The thing that disturbs me a bit is that there will have to be pre-qualifying."

Source: Autosport.com article

:ugh: I don't think the 100 meters--a race which only has 1 big time event, The Olympics--really compares to a racing series.

I'd still rather there be no budget cap. F1, to me, is supposed to be the pinnacle of racing technology. I can even use the argument that the biggest budgets don't always win *cough*myfavoriteteam*cough*. Although, I guess I'd rather have a budget cap than teams pulling out in this crappy economy.

What does he mean "pre-qualifying"?

Edit: Oh, I had no idea.

Pre-Qualifying
In the late 1980s and early 1990s the number of cars attempting to enter each race was as high as 39 for some races. Because of the dangers of having so many cars on the track at the same time, a pre-qualifying session was introduced for the teams with the worst record over the previous 6 months, including all new teams. Only the four fastest cars from this session were then allowed into the qualifying session proper, where 30 cars competed for 26 places on the starting grid for the race. The slowest cars from the pre-qualifying session were listed in race results as 'Did Not Pre-Qualify' (DNPQ). Pre-qualifying was discontinued after 1992 when many small teams withdrew from the sport.

Makes sense on all fronts, given the 08 season points standings.

I think BBC is streaming this season, but apparently their proxy detectors are quite good. Maybe one of the computer geeks here could help out with that.
