Peugeot has unveiled the first images of the 208 T16 with which Sebastien Loeb will compete in this year's Pikes Peak hillclimb.

As revealed by AUTOSPORT, the nine-time World Rally champion will drive in the unlimited class of this year's June 30 event.

Peugeot, which won the event with the sensational 405 T16 in 1988 and '89, made a late call to return to the Pikes Peak.

The new 208 is therefore still a 'silhouette design', with the livery likely to change. The rear wing borrows from the now-expired Le Mans 24 Hours-winning 908.

1.8s 0-60 is pretty amazing. I can't think of another car that isn't built for drag racing that can match that.

Lots of opportunity to do so on a rollercoaster tho.

0-62mph in 1.8s is 1.57g, here is the top 10 for rollercoasters:

Oh Hai, I'm Sebastien Loeb and I'm going to crush you... fuck....
24 seconds faster than the current record holder... and he's been told to go slow during practice :noes:

That's just the bottom half of the course, but I'm pretty certain he's going to get close to 9min dead or go off the mtn trying.

On a side note, the LoveFab NSX (powered by a LS-motor) went off two turns in, caught on fire and is probably done for the event.

Most of you have heard that a suspension component failed on the car this morning just two turns into our first run. The resultant impact, which was followed by a massive explosion resulted in extensive damage to the car. After careful inspection of the car, we have good news. And we have bad news. The bad first; we have officially withdrawn from the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. The repairs required to have a competition-ready car by tomorrow's Qualifying are just not possible. The good news; the core of the car is salvageable and was relatively unharmed. Body, Aero, and suspension all did their jobs of absorbing impact/shedding themselves before chassis damage could occur. So that being said, we are staying a couple of days to offer assistance to other teams. First up, exhaust repairs on Pat Doran's RS200 after his big off this morning.

They withdrew last night I think.

Well I underestimated that car... 8:13.878.

That record will likely stand for a long time unless PPIHC becomes a manufacturers' pissing ground.

Millen almost cracked 9min, PR of 9:02.192

Dumas crashed out/car failure in sector 1.

Normally we'd wait for a recap to do this but the news is just too big. Everyone knew Peugeot and Sébastien Loeb came to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to do something impressive, but taking one minute and 33 seconds off last year's record is unprecedented. Rhys Millen set the time to beat in 2012 with a 9:46.164. Loeb just ran the mountain in 8:13.878, which not only makes him the only member of the Eight-Minute Club ever, it beats last year's record by more than 15 percent.
