Honda has confirmed that Danica Patrick will test one of its Formula One cars later this year, fuelling speculation that the American is also to be given a race chance in the top flight in the not-too-distant future.

Wisconsin-born Patrick currently sits sixth in the IndyCar Series point standings following her historic breakthrough victory at Motegi back in April, the first success by a female driver in the premier open-wheeled championship across the pond.

The 26-year old Andretti Green Racing ace has hinted in interviews at her long-held desire to have an outing in an F1 car. Now it seems that dream has come true.

Honda CEO Nick Fry has admitted to Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung that a test will indeed take place, and that it is likely to do so at either Barcelona or Jerez in Spain in November, following the end of the 2008 F1 campaign.

"We will put her into our car after the season at the latest and see how quick she is," the Briton said.

Honda's current driver Jenson Button had previously joked in an interview with men's lifestyle magazine FHM that 'a girl with big boobs would never be comfortable in the car, and the mechanics wouldn't concentrate. Can you imagine strapping her in? You wouldn't want to be on the circuit with them, would you?'

The last woman to enter the top flight was Giovanna Amati, who attempted to qualify three times for Brabham back in 1992 before being replaced at the ailing British outfit by Damon Hill

danica doesn't have big boobs. :x

I see this as a purely PR move. She's not dominant enough in IRL even to likely be fast enough. Hell, look at Bourdais.

I was in Paris last year for about 5 days... i was told several times that 1) french women are hawt, 2) paris is a haven for fashion, 3) the food is good...
I can honestly say #1 and #2 are a complete lie... but the food was good.

Does she have a male gird person? Cause there's no place for that in motorsport let alone F1.

she's married anyways, so I don't see why she would object to having a grid girl. :noes: maybe she's secretly bisexual.... :o who knows.

I've never been a honda fan, but I've been a Jenson fan for a long time. I really can't believe he is gonna stick with honda for the remainder of his career. I suppose he won't get the #1 status if he was to go somewhere else anyways.... such a pity. His career could have been so much more had he not decide to stay at honda when williams wanted him back.

Eh, Williams between when Williams wanted him back and now, neither team has been in a position to challenge for WDCs, and until the last 2 years, Honda has been a bit stronger.

At least Honda got him that win in 06. :o

all that is true, but with the departure of dave richards and members of his team, a lot of talent left the team. Ad of course who did they leave behind? NICK FRY!

I would have and still do believed that in teh long run Williams were gonna come out of that slump. They've been a top team before, it would only be fair to assume once they had the engine deals properly sorted out, they would make their way back to the top. Where as Honda/BAR was going through a major restructure, the foreseeable future was a bit more uncertain in my honest opinion. And you're also right, they did get him his first win, and if he was still at williams, he might still be chasing for that win today. But I think in the long run, he should have gone back to williams.

correction... she will NOT be testing...

Honda Racing dismissed suggestions over the Canadian Grand Prix weekend that IndyCar star Danica Patrick will test for the team later this year.

Published reports had suggested that Patrick had been lined up for a run in a Honda Racing car in either November or December. However, Honda Racing CEO Nick Fry said in Montreal that there is no arrangement in place, although he admitted the team is interested in evaluating her.

"There has been no contact between us" he told autosport.com. "But if Danica did want to test one of our cars, we would be more than happy to speak to her about it."
