So a Haas and a Mercedes were fighting it out for position...  and Magnussen came out on top for P9 against Lewis...

Mercedes PUs definitely came out the worst with the switch to E10. Maybe the sidepodless design can overcome the low power but they just lack down force overall, probably due to the ride height to overcome the porpoising. Not sure there is an easy fix for that one. That being said, George can make the car 3rd best on the grid so maybe it was just a bad weekend for Lewis.

This is going to be a straight development fight between RBR and Ferrari all season long, which worries me as a tifoso.

I was thinking about the podless side pods on the Mercedes, wouldnt the lack of controlled air flow make the rear tires that much more of a drag?

Im no Newey, but that just seems like an air dam, at least with Ferraris bath tub, they can aim the air flow.

But all the Mercedes engines are near the bottom anyways, so maybe they got it wrong.

And the ride height thing, I think Lewis said in an interview they can raise the car to fix the bounce, but then you loose the ground effects, so it wont actually fix things.

Front tire, the new vane on top of the front wheel and the vortex generators on the leading edge of the floor probably does most of the drag reduction of the rear wheels.

Did Mercedes fix their porpoising?

Prob not, but Ferrari's seems to have gotten worse in Melbourne so it's probably circuit specific, and maybe not the only problem they're chasing. Lewis did have to back off due to overheating, and it wasn't really that hot of a race.

My boy Sainz is not catching any luck right now and Leclerc's unforced error was such a wrong time.  Ferrari finding ways to lose the chip once again!

LH looks like he has no idea how to drive a bad car either.

Really sucks to see, but Sainz really needs to pull himself together.

Of course in hindsight he Leclerc probably shouldn't have gone banzai to possibly gain 3 pts, but he was also lucky that it only cost 7 points instead of 15.
I do think he'll learn from this one and pick his battles better going forward. But he's a young driver and hasn't been in this position before where he could end up on a podium without having to risk it all.

Maybe a bit early to call it for LH but the Merc is a true shitbox and Russel definitely has experience driving plenty of those in recent years.

Sainz and Alonso both need some luck

Merc and Haas fighting it out again... crazy times.

If you think Miami is going to make F1 Americanized, wait till you see what happens in Las Vegas...

Well, I caught the first lap before the mother's day intensity ramped up.  Seemed like a bit of a parade out there?

Was actually better than expected. Sainz actually held it together for the entirety of the race
