What a shocking accident. Really glad Grosjean is ok. The halo saved his life I think.

I just bought a track car to get back into driving. The accident really made me question my decision.

Yeah, it was pretty crazy and amazing that he was able to walk away with only a couple relatively minor burns.

I'm just not able to do the whole track day thing anymore, the heat just really takes it out of me.  I've pretty much gone all in on sim racing and it has kept me quite occupied throughout the pandemic...

I regret every negative thing I ever said about the halo.

My question still is how did he get out of the car... the images show it was a bit sideways and the guard rail was a bit on top of the halo, almost blocking it.... unless the car rolled a bit after he got out. Either way... amazing images...

Interesting that Mazepin gets the seat announcement before Schumacher, but not surprising given the money he brings.

Lewis out, :x: that George Russel gets a drive and a chance at a podium, but likely it will be Stoffel who will finish probably P8.

Wow, so MUCH F1 news!!!!

Obviously I hope Hammy is OK, but too bad this didn't happen sooner in the season...

Stoked for RUS to get a chance in the Merc, hopefully he can perform in it.  Jack Aitken is taking his Williams seat and Haas finally announced Mick is in for next year...

Tough spot having two rookies in for Haas next year, hopefully it isn't a "blame a bad car on the rookie's inexperience" sort of situation.

Super stoked for Russel to get his shot

As a Belgian I find it a shame that Vandoorne doesn't get a chance but Russel is the more logical choice and deserves this chance. Interested to see how he gets on.

So watching the sky sports pre qualifying they did an explanation of how he got out. and there was just enough room between the top of the halo and the armco that he was able to squeeze his way out.

George deserves a seat in a competitive car. Super for Checo but George got robbed twice. Hope he gets another shot in Abu Dhabi

Russel should have won this race, but it was good that Perez got a win once Russel couldn't.

Super happy for Sergio.

Bottas is already signed for the '21 seat, right?  Shame after Russel's performance.

Bottas has already signed but Hamilton hasn't. Hamilton's negotiation position became slightly weaker after Russel's showing.

I would think he'd be in a relatively weak position anyways.  Great PR to have Schumi's record broken in your car, but Merc knows they can rattle off a few more chips without hambone.

Lewis isn't going anywhere... Guy won his last 6 titles with them by a good margin, not like it was close to any other competitor (except for Nico)... why would you give that up, get way more records, and he's still driving like it's easy.

Bottas on the other hand, his credibility just dropped... 2021 might be his last year... give George a pre-contract and thank Bottas for his time and points...

Perez is the one that needs a seat if there is going to be some chairs moving around...

Supposedly Bottas removed "Mercedes" from his Instagram description and Russel removed "Williams" from his.

"However, Mercedes responded to the chatter via its official Instagram account, alluding to the tizz by changing the team bio too.

“It’s just an Instagram bio. Don’t overthink it,” the team wrote with a winking emoji"

Lewis will most likely be driving the car next year, but with George showing so well Merc might lower their bid for the contract negotiations. This could have been the plan all along. By waiting so long they could force Hamilton's hand too. Once Red Bull make up their mind, there is only one other seat left unannounced, and Ham ain't going to Alpha Tauri. So the options are to sit out/retire or to sign whatever Merc offers.

Just saw this. Didn't realize Grosjean had such a narrow gap to crawl through.

Yeah that's what I mean in my original comment, the halo almost blocked his escape path because it looked like it got covered a bit by the rail... crazy.

And we're done... boring race.

Carlos got an engine cover signed by everyone, while everyone that's leaving/changing teams got their steering wheel...

After getting used to seeing the latest cars brake really late, feels like Alonso is braking quite early from the onboard in the R25.
