Nobody's watching the Korean GP? it's actually pretty damn awesome

Sorry I didn't make a thread for this race. I was out of town, got in last night at midnight. Limited access to Internet where I was.

But yeah, interesting race from lap 20+. The fire car out of no where... Someone is getting fired or a crazy fine for that one. Saw it on the track and was thinking that's an odd looking safety car, where are the flags and signs?

All the incidents were more interesting than the race itself unfortunately. Some good action for 4th/5th/6th but other than that it was pretty dull.

Also Massa is performing admirably now that he doesn't have team orders holding him back.

I thought Korea was AWESOME...!

Hulkenberg is the real deal. That was amazing race craft work to keep LH and Alonso behind. He knew where his strengths were, didn't worry about weaving into their lines when it wasn't necessary. And he only made his car a little extra wide on a few of the corners, but going into T1, he never, ever walked into LH's line under braking. And that one time LH passed him, he knew he had the better traction and re-took LH before the DRS activation line. Seriously amazing driving from the Hulk...

McLaren was rumored to have turned down Hulk because he's too tall and heavy. Honestly, anyone skipping over quality drivers because of weight and height. 160lbs, is too heavy for the new 2014 cars apparently...

Eric Boullier has stated that he will pick a driver on talent, not weight. Whether that is his hint that Hulk is a prime candidate for Kimi's seat, :dunno:

I am on the limit in our car. I couldn't be heavier than I am so I fast before the race.

Interesting theory on how RBR/Vettel might have TC by linking KERS to the suspension sensors, thus bypassing the controlled ECU and engine maps the FIA looks at, giving it near instant engine modulation since it's all electric... whole didn't level man...

At the Singapore Grand Prix two weekends ago, Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel won by an unbelievable 32 second margin over his closest rival. Seriously, it's unbelievable. Now F1 experts believe that Red Bull Racing's F1 engineers may have invented a new kind of traction control that links the car's hybrid engine to its suspension — but no one knows for sure. The whole world is stumped.P

Let me start out by saying that the technology being discussed here is based on rumor. It's a very well-supported rumor, but there is no proof that what is being discussed here actually exists. That's because we are talking about a field of technology so secret that no one outside the Red Bull Racing F1 team knows what's going on.

Dear Jean Todt,

KERS harvest trace must be logged on the MES ECU and made available to the FIA upon request.

Problem solved.

9.3 Traction control
No car may be equipped with a system or device which is capable of preventing the driven wheels from spinning under power or of compensating for excessive torque demand by the driver.
Any device or system which notifies the driver of the onset of wheel spin is not permitted.

Rule is broad enough to catch using the KERS harvest to compensate for excessive torque demand by the driver. Too easy to catch IMO, so I don't think this is what they are using. Plus, it doesn't explain the exhaust note discrepancy.

Blown exhausts? Sebfarts?

The rumored supercap system in the RB is farther back on the diffuser tray, wouldn't get picked up on that camera angle IMO.

...with Kimi, we can do a very good championship, and again try to score as many points as possible. But I think in terms of speed, Felipe is not any slower. When they were racing together, Felipe was as quick as him in a way.

Ball is in your court, Kimi.

Technically he's not wrong. When Kimi and Felipe were together, they were pretty evenly matched. What happened since the end of 2008 is a completely different story.

The two years they were together:

Kimi - 185pts (8 wins, 21 podiums)
Felipe - 191pts (9 wins, 20 podiums)

That is also with Massa moving over in Brazil '07 to let Kimi win the race and the WDC.

Emo's point makes no sense - everyone knows Massa was better pre-spring, but Emo was never in the same car as pre-spring Massa.

He can't use his time with Felipe as any sort of measuring stick for Kimi.

:(

Autosport did a good write up on her this morning...
http://www.autosport...t.php/id/110528

Madrid-born Maria de Villota, who was found dead on Thursday, was the daughter of two-time grand prix starter Emilio.

Having come from a racing family, it was no surprise she pursued a career in racing. After initially competing in karts, she stepped into single-seater racing in 2000 in the Spanish Formula Toyota series before a part-season in the newly-established Spanish Formula 3 championship for Racing Engineering the following year.

She raced full-time in Spanish F3 from 2002-2004, with a high-point of 11th in the standings in 2002, but after a one-off outing in 2005, her attention turned to roofed categories.

She had already competed in the Daytona 24 Hours in 2005, driving a Ferrari 360 Modena, and for the next three years made appearances in myriad categories, including the European Ferrari Challenge, World Touring Car Championship, Superstars, and Spanish GT. But it was in the German ADAC Procar series that she enjoyed most success, claiming a victory at the Nurburgring in 2007 and finishing third in the standings driving a Chevrolet Lacetti for Maurer Motorsport.

Her ambition was always to race in single-seaters and in 2008 she made a one-off appearance in Euro 3000 before competing in the UK-based Formula Palmer Audi championship the following year. But her big break came with the Atletico Madrid team in Superleague Formula, which she joined late in the 2009 season. While results were few and far between during her 24 races in the category against some tough opposition, she did claim a fourth place at the Nurburgring in 2010.

With her attention turning to Formula 1, de Villota had her first taste of a grand prix car in August 2011, completing two days of running in a 2009-specification Renault R29. After the test, team principal Eric Boullier paid tribute to the professional job de Villota did in the car. "Maria did exactly what was expected of her, she took things one step at a time and achieved some very reasonable laptimes, not putting a foot wrong all day," said Boullier.

De Villota landed her first official role in F1 in 2012, joining the Marussia team as a test driver ahead of the season. After spending time with the team at races, she had her first taste of the car in a straightline test at Duxford airfield on July 3. Returning to the 'pits' area after her first installation run, de Villota's car struck a team support truck and she suffered life-threatening injuries. She lost her right eye in the accident, but recovered well enough after a series of operations to make her first public appearance in Madrid three months later. "Before the accident, I only saw Formula 1, inside a car, competing, and I didn't see what was really important in life," she said. "[The crash] has made me find the way again and I'm seeing it that way. And this new opportunity I'm going to live it at 100 per cent."

Since her accident, de Villota continued to be active in motor-racing circles, attending this year's Spanish Grand Prix and maintaining her role as an ambassador for the FIA's Women In Motorsport Commission.

I really hope they don't find out that she was on pain killers and OD'd ...not that it would change my own opinion of her. Just a huge shame when the racing community loses someone like that.
