I hate his whiny attitude, but seriously, Kimi needs to take a page from FA's book on being a fast driver. Hearing this from Alonso really gets me excited for him...

Hell, I just wish we just had someone fast and cool. Like MotoGP has Rossi :naughty:

Alonso: I want to prove I'm still the best
Friday, 08 August 2008 00:00

Fernando Alonso says he needs a "super performance" in the remaining seven races of the season to prove that he is still a top-flight Formula 1 driver.

Having been accustomed to racing at the sharp end of the field over the past three years, the double world champion has had to adapt to life in the midfield since returning to Renault at the start of 2008.

And while he is keeping the paddock guessing as to where he will drive next year, he is intent on achieving a big result to underline his calibre.

“I’ll keep fighting for a podium or even a victory this year because that will prove that I’m still here,” Alonso told the August issue of F1 Racing magazine.

“I want to prove to everybody that I’m still the best so I need a super performance to do that, which means a podium or a win.

“And I’ll be trying to do it in the second part of the season.”

Alonso has scored just 18 points this season, a quarter of the amount he had to his name after the same number of races last year.

But the 27-year-old insists that the lack of success hasn’t sapped his motivation.

“There was a bit of frustration when I saw that I wouldn’t win races or get on the podium,” he said.

“But it’s still a challenge to beat our main opponents and that’s the motivation to keep doing my best.”

Alonso has previously suggested that he would feel fulfilled after winning a third world title and might take that as his cue to retire from Formula 1.

But the Spaniard has recently admitted that he has changed his mind on that front, and sees himself racing in F1 for many more seasons.

“After these difficult times, I want to have the time to win enough championships – everybody will see how determined I am to win and be fast,” he said.

“So there are still many years to come form me.”

Yeah I really like his attitude though Kimi explaining at least that he can't get his car set up for quali to be at the front made me feel a little better about his motivation.

Yep, this is about as good as alonso has come across since '05. Who knows, maybe he has been humbled by sucking and being shown up by piquet.

i wouldn't say shown up... the kid got lucky with a safety car...
he had as much chance of coming in second as Kovy did of winning the last race...

:hs:

But sometimes that fortune can lead to some good things b/c of the confidence boost you get. Or in Button's case, a crappy car for the next season :naughty:

Speaking of which, when JPM fell out with McLaren, Pedro De Rosa put in some damn good drives...I'm actually surprised why he hasn't been given a chance to race with other teams. He seemed really determined to do a really good job...

he didn't impress me much when he took over for JPM. And he's pretty old now, isn't he?

I'd rather see Sato or Davidson get seats again than him, honestly.

Sato gets the nod for sure. What happened to that dude that seemed to have inside knowledge of everything Super Aguri? :bowrofl: I'd like to hear what he sees in his crystal ball :bowrofl:

since the break up of the Ferrari trio (Todt, Brawn, Schumacher), the whole organization last done a sub par job of running the team. They should have already clinched the constructors by now if it weren't for the inconsistencies with team management, mechanical failures and what ever else they are fucking up behind closed doors.

I don't particularly care for all the drama in F1 these days. The only drama I want to see should come from the racing itself.
On that note I'm really interested to see what the new season of A1GP is gonna be like, with their new "powered by ferrari" cars....

Alonso has been doing wonders in that car recently. The rain has certainly helped as it has masked the deficincies of the Renault. The only disappointment would probably be that Alonso hasn't cracked the podium yet. Been stuck in fourth spot a lot recently.

But his performances are generally those of a champion.
