Kyle Busch, the 23-year-old rising star of NASCAR, says that he will be testing a Formula 1 car later this year in Japan. Busch drives an M&M-sponsored Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing and it is anticipated that the test would be at the wheel of a Toyota Formula 1 car. The youngster has been racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup since 2004 when he did six races with Hendrick Motorsports. He won his first Cup race a year later at the California Speedway, becoming the youngest-ever winner in the NASCAR Cup Series, at 20 years and 125 days. He followed that with a second victory two months afterwards at Phoenix and was named Rookie of the Year. In 2006 he was a frontrunner but ended the year 10th in the championship. He continued with Hendrick in 2007 but in July last year Hendrick announced it was signing up Dale Earnhardt Jr and he he found himself looking for work, ending up at Joe Gibbs. This year he has won three races to date.

He says that he would like to go to Formula 1 before he is 30 but the Nevadan understands that convincing an F1 team to take him seriously is going to require a lot of winning in NASCAR.

Someone should tell him he can win all teh nascar races he want, but that aint gonna help him get into F1.

"I wouldn't mind it," the American said, albeit admitting some misgivings about F1's actual wheel to wheel action that apparently "isn't all that great".

"If I can do it and I'm good at it then I'll give it a shot and try it.

"We'll see how good I test, first.

"We'll see if my neck can withstand the g-forces of the braking and everything," he said.

Too bad it's true :squint:

from the replies to this thread, i would be keen to assume that American F1 fans would really like to see an American driver in F1. Unfortunately most the country don't share this vision with us (well you guys, since I don't have a green card). I suppose it would be up to one of us(you) now to bread an American F1 driver then.....

Good luck! :squint:

i am american, and i dont care what nationality the drivers are, but i really would like to see an american F1 driver. i prefer to like drivers based more on their personality (kimi, montoya) and i think Busch's attitude would be fun to have in F1. it would definitely stir the pot :squint: i could see him being like another montoya... lots of balls and attitude, flairs of good driving, but probably not enough for a championchip cookie.

it sucks montoya's no longer in it. he'd be great to watch without traction control. he'd probably do well. :squint:

I agree with ya. I usually pick a fave driver by their style and personality. But i think i'd care a lot more if that american driver started winning and challenging for the title...then even if he is not my favorite driver by persona, i'd still favor them and back that driver up...I'd like to find out with an American driver tho :mamoru:
