Okay...he might be pretty good.  That was pretty amazing to watch, lol.  No wonder Ferrari wants him so badly...

I'm not happy that Ferrari is getting rid of Kimi again, but damn that was an awesome drive...

I have a feeling Kimi is happier at Sauber anyways...he just wants to race without the media attention.  But it's a clear threat to Vettel too - he does not do well with pressure overall, IMO.

He better not throw away this championship to Lewis!

Oh neat... another race, another Vettel/Ferrari mistake. 2018, the year Ferrari and Vettel crowned Lewis champion.

How I feel... :io:

Not sure how Ferrari is going to claw this back honestly.

It's over, unless Lewis does another park it in the gravel at pit entry snafu again.  Definitely a year where Ferrari lost the championship when it was attainable.  At least not as painful as the 2008 final corner.  Fucking Timo Glock... :squint:

Two races and another Vettel screw up. Ferrari really are just handing the titles over to Mercedes and Lewis. Wtf happened after the summer break.

Rapidly devolving into another horrendously boring season.

Man...watching Vettel implode this season has really made me respect Rosberg a whole lot more now...

It's clear now how much LH thrives on pressure..he just gets better and he finally cracked Vettel.  Rosberg basically withstood this pressure in the same car, same team with all of the politics surrounding all of that and managed to beat LH...clearly one of the best ever.

And I really wanted Vettel to win this season too :(

Is this "sport" ever going to become a competitive sport again?

Very rarely is there a season that is really competitive, in recent history the only year that really stands out is 2012.  Although 2007 and 2008 were both won by 1 point, and 2010 was by 4...

On another note, I recently read Steve Matchett's book The Mechanic's Tale which is about his career in F1, and have started Life in the Fast Lane which is actually his first book that chronicles the 1994 season...

This...If F1 wants to get back to exciting racing...there needs to be a big shake-up in aero-rules.  But ultimately that'll probably be bringing the eye-bleeding pace of an F1 car back a little towards reality.

Not sure what the right answer is...sports is fun when an under-dog has a chance of winning.  Baseball and hockey come to mind...but the state of motorsports right now, this is almost unlikely.  Especially in F1.

It sure was.  Merc still has the engine advantage and the teams are hamstrung to catch up.  When RBR had they're dominant cars, other teams were allowed to try and catch up aero wise without a bullshit token system.

RBR earned their dominance.  Merc has been regulated into dominance.

I think Ferrari has caught up...they lost it on their own accord honestly this year.  And i bet the parity is a lot closer now...regardless, F1's about tenths and hundredths and unfortunately, that's how tight the grid is at the tip.

I also disagree with the term "earned" as well.  They came into F1 for advertising, and basically outspent/poached talent from every other team on the grid to win.  And at the end of the day, the results are the same - the more you spend, the more you win, same old boring races.

That's pretty much the recipe in any professional sport though, even with salary caps etc... it's almost always that team that can manage their $$$ the wisest (or better yet take advantage of loopholes) that is going to win...

The token system did help them maintain a technical advantage, but I thought it was scrapped last season?

hence ferrari having a feasible chance this year.  It's the fact that it's the fifth on the trot that's killing the sport for me.

Ferrari won 5 in a row, but that was with a completely open engine formula - v12s and v10s competing for the same trophy.

The technical arms race I fell in love with - mass dampers, double diffusers, f-ducts, active suspensions, custom tire compounds and fuels - it's all gone the way of the dodo.
