Jesus. The dude drives in 306 GPs, gets into god knows how many wrecks, and gets wiped out by a rock. :wtc:

Hope the recovery is speedy.

Get well soon, Schumi.

He was wearing a helmet too, so it must have been a seriously bad accident. Was just up at Tahoe yesterday seeing someone getting loaded into the medivac helicopter when I saw the story. :eek3:

"Contrary to earlier reports that suggested his injuries were mild and not life-threatening, the latest word is that the retired F1 driver lies in a medically induced coma at the university hospital in Grenoble. There he underwent surgery to stop the bleeding in his head caused by numerous contusions and lesions.

In a press conference at the hospital, Schumacher's doctors revealed that he had not, contrary to certain reports, undergone a second surgical procedure, but the possibility of its necessity could not be ruled out, either. Describing his condition as "life-threatening," the hospital's head anesthetician Dr. Jean-Francois Payen spoke at a news conference: "For the moment we cannot say what Michael Schumacher's future is," reported the Chicago Tribune. "We are working round the clock - we are trying to win time.""

"As family members rallied around Michael Schumacher Monday, the extent of his injuries became clearer. French publication Paris Match reports that an unnamed doctor at the Grenoble, France, hospital has confirmed that the seven-time Formula One World Champion 1 is battling a number of "very serious problems" stemming from his weekend skiing accident sustained in the French Alps. First, Schumacher endured cerebral hemorrhaging that was repeatedly "flooding the brain coaxial lesions" and he has also suffered a cerebral edema. Doctors reportedly have the racer in an induced coma as well as hypothermia in an attempt to reduce potential brain damage. Jean-François Payen, Head of Anesthesiology at the hospital said Monday at an early-morning press conference, "For the moment, we can not decide on the fate of Michael Schumacher."

Paris Match also reported that Schumacher's helmet had "exploded" into three pieces upon impact with a rock on the ski slope."

http://formerf1doc.w...e-and-detailed/

"...First off let me say that it is EXTREMELY unlikely (I’d honestly say virtually impossible) that the Michael we knew prior to this fall will ever be back.

I think that it will have to be considered to be a triumph of human physical resiliency, and of modern neurointensive care, if Michael is able to walk, feed himself, dress himself, and if he retains significant elements of his previous personality. If recovery proceeds to this point (which is totally POSSIBLE, if perhaps rather improbable), it is an open question as to how well the “higher functions” (memory, concentration, reading, planning, etc) will recover. Please note, I would love to be proven wrong about this!"

Damn...
