Any rumors on a location?

Indianapolis boss Tony George has confirmed that talks are on to revive the US Grand Prix.

For the first time since 1999, the fabled venue will not be visited by the Formula One circus this year, after George and the series' chief executive Bernie Ecclestone failed to reach a new agreement.

But it recently emerged that a local marketing company had been commissioned by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to look for potential sponsors to help fund the race's return.

And to Indianapolis radio station 1070 The Fan Radio, George sounded hopeful that the right financial backing could put the US Grand Prix back on track as early as 2009.

"We need to improve the financial performance of the event in order to justify bringing it back, and we won't do that without sponsorship," he said.

"We're talking to some folks that may have interest, and that could happen as early as 2009 if we can go to Bernie with a proposal," George added.

How about a NASCAR track? One of those that they can circle every 25 seconds or so for like 300 laps?

as a self-serving assbag, I'd like them to have them at whatever time turns out to 7:00am est. Would also settle for 8:00pm est Saturday if I could get an F1 crew together where I live and watch it at a bar.

I could probably arrange it, but obviously the beers would end at 2:00. I wish there was an F1 crew around here. But there's only 2 OTers, so I think like-minded F1 peeps will be few and far between. And I have no idea how to put one together.

I have no problems with a few of the races at night. Melbourne doesn't worry me as long as the coverage stays live for the weekend. We have awesome coverage here at the moment and I reckon having the race at night would probably conflict with regular programming and movies etc.. they'd probably can it and delay the telecast

Only ones I don't get to see now are the US/Canada/South America stuff.. works out roughly 3-5am here.

I want to see the old Watkins Glen resurrected...that would be awesome as a USGP - but I hear ther'es nothing around it for F1 stars. Kinda like Magny Cours.
Infinion would be kickass

Found this picture funny:

Dennis: Season should be limited to 20 races
Wednesday 2nd April 2008

Posted Image
Twenty races per season should be the limit for Formula One despite the global expansion of the sport, according to McLaren team principal Ron Dennis.
Russia, India, South Korea, Abu Dhabi and Qatar have been all been earmarked as venues that could be added to the F1 calendar.

However, Dennis, who was addressing delegates at the Motor Sport Business Forum in Bahrain, says it is important to "preserve a closed season over the winter" as it plays a big role in the build-up to the new Formula One season.

"I welcome this expansion, and heartily commend Bernie Ecclestone for spearheading it," he said.

"But I have two provisos: Firstly, that the season never expands to more than 20 grands prix, which I regard as a natural logistical limit and, secondly, that we preserve a closed season over the winter.

"The closed season is essential not only for logistical reasons but also in order to stir up a sense of anticipation in the hearts and minds of F1 fans.

"The best-selling editions of Formula 1 magazines are always the season preview editions, for example, not the editions that are published during the season. "And that's because a sense of anticipation has been stirred up in the hearts and minds of Formula 1 fans over the preceding winter. So, as I say, we must preserve that."

Surprisingly, I've found a few people that like F1 here in Dallas. But I need to get them to concentrate on F1 instead of clubbin' on those nights :werd:

Altho the last time I went autox, I did live it up Kimi-style by partying all night and autocrossing the next day  Shit that one hurt...
