Spa is going to be nuts on Sunday... several front runners taking engine / power units and starting from the back... :run:

Verstappen looking pretty unbeatable

Ferrari with the mess up once again with Leclerc's tires :uh:

Wonder if their lack of speed has anything to do with the bounce metric :mamoru:

The level of stupid mistakes is barely acceptable at Haas, nevermind a team that has aspiration to compete for the world championship. As Guenther would say, "instead, we look like a bunch of fooken wankers."

Asked to explain Sainz's pitstop: "On the first one what we did was we knew that Lewis was preparing himself for a pit stop that could have undercut of ourselves.

"We tried to react simply to stay ahead of him which was the best way to keep track position, because we knew Lewis was very fast in the first stint of the race.

"When we saw the pit crew of Mercedes in pitlane we called our driver to pit but that was when he was in the last corner and it was too late for the mechanics to be ready. It was too late as a call based on our judgement."

If I remember correctly, Mercedes did not stop till quite some laps later, so it looks like Mercedes tricked Ferrari into pitting Sainz and Ferrari did exactly what Mercedes hoped they'd do  :wtc:

At this point they aren't racing RB any more and are just trying to stay in 2nd for the constructor's.

Pretty poor showing from Mercedes this race. Hamilton should have done better than he did if he wants to catch up with Russel points wise - could have finished at least 4th but finishes 9th. Can't score so badly on an off day for Russel.

He had already left his box so either he was gonna pull over in another box or at the end of the pitlane next to bernd maylander (is there enough space to fit? would there be track marshals nearby with fire extinguisher ready?)

I think to stop at the next corner station was the normal thing to do, unless the car was already on fire or a wheel was falling off.

Side thought, does the budget cap help a team like RBR? Accounting can always point at a particular employee of Red Bull Technologies and allocate that to Alpha Tauri's cap, right?

Not to mention the economies of scale of brainpower that's happening with the knowledge transfer across teams, even if the parts aren't exact copies.

Alpha Tauri's r&d budget can be used to try crazy concepts and RBR only need to go down that route after it's been proven, saving on their own costs.

In general I really wonder how they police all the financial stuff.

In the case of AT and RB it's indeed really tricky. I could imagine they can easily rotate employees between the 2 teams and share ideas that way without breaking the letter of the law

Verstappen doesn't take the title in Singapore, and FIA delays releasing the 2021 financial compliance info till after Japanese GP, I wonder if it's to avoid the shitstorm overshadowing Verstappen winning the title...

Mick not doing his chances of a seat next year any good by crashing while on his way back to the pits

Due to wording from the FIA on the points, Max accidentally won the title this weekend

I’m sure that’s not what the intent was for the points clarification needed after Spa last year… but oh well :mamoru:

Hehe, it's not like he wasn't going to win it anyway...   I mean yeah there's a possibility that he wouldn't but not very likely.

How convenient that the FIA lets the world know that RB exceeded budget limitations only after Verstappen's won the title in Suzuka :mamoru:
