I was real Jazzed about Phelps until his team said after the race that what he did was greater than any other performance in sports event, including Tiger's at the US Open, as well as everyone else saying that he's the greatest athlete ever now. Makes me want to puke, it's swimming, let's not get carried away.

:mamoru2: ok, im retarded... yeah, CBS.

the race looked pretty dull, probably the worst race for the major networks to pick up. the michelin runners were no where near the bridgestones.

yeah I kinda agree. The olympics in once every 4 years, and the US open is every year, and a F1 weekend is mostly once every 2 weeks. So until Phelps can win world championship events in that kind of interval, I'd say to the media, GET A LIFE and stop over-hyping EVERYTHING just because it makes sports more dramatic!

I'll disagree with you guys and say that winning 8 golds at the Olympics is pretty damn cool.

It's not like you get a chance every year to win those things. It's every 4 years. So if you think about it, if this was F1 and Kimi was trying for his gold, he'd only get 1 chance every 4 years. Considering it took him 7 years of contesting for the WDC to win one, it's doubtful he'd be sober enough in that span of 2 weeks to win a gold :mamoru2:. And Phelps just won 8 in 2 weeks. Those chances don't come often, and he had the entire nation on his shoulders and he didn't crack once.

So I find it pretty amazing.

And "just" swimming? That sounds like someone saying F1 is "just" driving. Lets not downplay these other sports...that's like someone saying that running the 100m is "just" running. Even though when you cut down to the chase of it, Ursain ran the 100m relay in under 10secs. That's 109 yards in 9.69 secs from a dead stop. That's fucking fast.

the fact that he broke a world record isnt baller.. the fact that he was already celebrating with 15m to go :mamoru2:
he ran shirt untucked, and crossed the line left shoe untied... imagine if he was going 100%

i think he's going to curb stomp the 200m record too..

That was pretty amazing, but I think Johnson's 19.32 is still very special.

If anyone can break the record it'll be Usain though.

He would probably have run a low 9.6 or high 9.5 if he didn't start celebrating with 15m to go

That was pretty crazy...he's so damn fast that other guys are still going flat-out and he's breaking the WR w/o a sweat. But that's like LH taking off his helmet and celebrating w/ 1 lap to go inside the cockpit. :dunno: Anti-LH guys would've had so much ammunition. But Usain can back his shit up tho so I guess the point is moot.

If I were him though, I would've made that record unbreakable by putting in the fastest time possible. :o

he already had the WR, and was just in it to win it. im sure he'll set a new WR if anyone tries to challenge him. afterall he's only still 21 and has plenty more golden years left in him.

This just blows my mind away. I can't wrap my head around it...I hope he's not on performance enhancing drugs...and if he is, I hope he doesn't get caught for it. Ignorance is bliss b/c that number just makes me speechless.

well god damn :eek3:

at least he broke it going all out for the full 200m

if he broke it while clowning over the last part of the race like he did in the 100m then I would have been annoyed :eek2:
